    Default Damaged hair/over styling?

As many of you may know, often times the business requires us to be in tip top shape as it pertains to grooming. & because of this I've noticed over time my hair has a lot of breakage & is not as thick as it once was. One of the girls I've worked with wears wigs & suggested I buy one as a protective style when working while I repair my hair underneath. have any of the other girls had this issue? I was thinking extensions, but I think that would probably cause more damage to my hair?

Falls & wigs. Yes my hair got trashed by dancing. It's not just the styling, it's the extra movement & going to bed with dirty hair.

Honestly I used to think skin care was going to be the 1# thing I had to care about as a dancer but turns out it was hair care.

Tape in extensions might be OK ... or maybe some clips. But I think if you're hair is breaking it's just putting extra strain on it and damage.

There's this Oribe split end sealer/repair I use it's in this reddish brown bottle and honestly, a salon in NY gave it to me, after my hair was going through a ton of breakage and it worked some miracles helping me get healthy hair again. It seems expensive, but you don't need a lot and it def helps in the process.

There are some gorgeous wigs out there now ... I've been looking at some of the places that specifically make units for drag queens etc and they have some really cute ones with a little more style to them than maybe Ricky's etc have. They seem perfect for dancing or getting more of a 'club' look. Saw some cute ones on Etsy also that had good reviews. There has to be some sort of youtube tutorial for pinning them perfectly to secure them if you're going to be more "active" in them I think.

^^- thanks. I have been having the same problem. A dancer friend of mine used wigs and she grew her hair out. She still wears wigs sometimes, because hair styling 4 days a week is a pain in the ass.

I dont think dancers need to style their hair unless you dont like your natural hair. The first few monts of dancing i styled my hair for every shift then decided it was a waste of time, damaging my hair and also damaging the natural structure of my hair. I have beautiful natural waves wtf am i doing? Now i just enhance my waves with steamy showers and scrunching it with water whenever i want to boost the waves... My waves are looking much better, and my hair is not breaking off.
About extentuons - the least damaging method would probably be clips ins

Olaplex and coconut oil overnight hair soaks!! Also ^try working w your natural hair as much as possible. I did the whole "platinum blond stick straight" look with naturally thick textured brunette hair and it royally fucked it up. It's just not feasible long term..if you enjoy healthy hair on your head that is.

I noticed I have way more fallout when I go to bed with dirty hair. remembering to wash it every single day is a damn chore.

I've tried coconut oil.. for some reason my scalp doesn't react well to oils. it sheds way more when I rinse it out. but my ends do feel amazing. next time i'll try just leaving it on my ends.

Wear a wig. Expect to fight off customers who want to touch your hair and pull on it during dances.

I had serious breakage and fried-looking ends after dying it platinum for several years & styling it every time I worked. I had to dye it back to a dark color and use semi-permanent colors only that wouldn't be so hard on it. It's just recently started looking properly healthy again after a year.

    Things that helped:
    - Leaving in conditioner while you shave & wash, esp. on the ends
    - Washing only 1-2x a week. I know someone said dirty hair was bad. I dunno, I find since I started doing that regimen that girls at work & my stylist have commented how much healthier it looks & feels.
    - if you can get it to hold a style at all, try to work days in a row and only hot-tool it on the first day.
    - Olaplex is a pretty good treatment if your stylist has it.

Yea, myself, my body does good w/coconut oil, but not so much my hair. I use Rene Furterer deep conditioner. Love Olaplex! &, I soo despise anyone touching my hair, esp guys they always pull/snag it

I really, really damaged my hair by double processing it and wearing extensions. It literally took me 7 years to get it healthy again. I now have my natural hair with high lights and plan to add some additional high lights and tape-in extensions so it is dark blonde long and full but I would never attempt to go so blonde again. It like what "We Had a Rabbit Like You said"; you can't go too far from your natural hair if you want to have healthy hair.

What I did to repair it was take everything out- die it close to my natural color (deposit only, no lift) and wear a fake pony tail for about 6 months. Then, I added a little bit of highlights and wore clips until it was long enough to use sew ins. After I stopped dancing I took all that crap out and let me hair grow back and slowly starting letting a more natural color come back too. I barely blow dry the hair; if I do its usually just the front and use a very high quality flat iron when I need it. My hair is really shiny and healthy now; unfortunately it is still thin.

I'm growing out damage from blonde. Honestly, I think wigs look SO much better for blondes because 99% of girls who dye their hair blonde, their hair texture gets embarrassingly fried after being blonde for just like one year. Might as well just wear a wig. I regret bleaching mine and wish I would have just done a wig the whole time so I'd have really long healthy hair now.

I think that's what i'm going to do. after doing some research it looks like the more natural looking wigs (non-synthetic) cost a pretty penny. but in my opinion might be a good investment in the long run.

My stylists keep telling me to wash every other day max and ideally once a week. I try for every three days but even that is hard I'd rather have super clean feeling dried out hair than greasy.

I 110% vouch for olaplex. If you are chemically treating your hair, use it. If you want to freshen up and strengthen your virgin hair or even extensions, use it. I colored my hair two years ago and the dyed parts are still the same texture as my virgin hair.

I don't style my hair anymore for the club. Just keep it clean and hairspray my bangs to the side. But not everyone gets away with this and they make more money with a different color/style/texture. I at least recommend diluting your shampoo, idk why but my scalp and hair is more moisturized with less build up this way.

I wash my hair max 2x a week and use hair cholesterol. I'm doing just fine.

If you're heat styling ALWAYS use a thermal protectant. I like Beyond Shine by Aquage or Hot Off The Press by Paul Mitchell. This will save your hair from being fried by your hot tools.

If you have split ends the only cure is a healthy haircut. Otherwise, the split will travel up the hair shaft, eventually break off resulting in thin hair. Products marketed as "split end sealers/serums" just mask the problem by coating it with product and are not a true solution.

To combat thinning hair, I recommend Kevin Murphy's plumping line. It's a shampoo, conditioner, and spray combo that utilizes the same technology that Latisse uses to thicken eyelashes. The problem is, once you stop using these types of products you'll notice your results go away. But I can verify that it works as long as you continue to use it, which can be beneficial while you let your hair heal.

Wigs: good idea! There are tons of realistic wigs on the market. Plus you can change your hair color/cut/style daily if you want to.

Extensions: hit or miss. Without seeing your hair in person I can't assess if the benefits would outweigh the possible damage. It also depends on how many you have put in and the application style. Depending on the damage to your natural hair, the weight of the extensions could cause more stress on your hair. Most likely, a few clip in extensions might not be a bad idea.

I'm a cosmetologist during the day so just wanted to throw my 2 cents in.

I've been dying my hair for 13 years now. I used to have hair down to my ass that would grow like crazy before I started dying and hear treating it. It's still thick with trims but it doesn't grow like it used to...I know it's a head hair problem cause my hair everywhere else grows fine? Dying my hair is a big part of my identity...I actually came here looking for advice cause I'm thinking of extensions or just wigs...I have a friend that's a wig expert and she said you have to cornrow your hair before you put the wig on to protect it. And also for it to look natural. I don't know how to do it, but she's been offering to teach me so I wanna take her up on it but I have ombres and don't know where to find an unnatural color match

I have thin strand hair with a lot of follicles so I have a thick look and body to my hair. I've found washing it only like twice a week, like others have said, has worked. Also I use a leave in conditioner after I wash at the ends before I dry it. It's a Dominican product. It's too heavy to use at my particular roots but it really works...also use a sulfate free professional shampoo. Store stuff is very rough and oily.

The leave in I use is called Proteina De Perla. I put it on the bottom half of my hair when it's damp and then dry like usual. If you're in NYC they sell it at every beauty supply.

This is making me wanna go back to my natural dark/auburn but so boring

I just discovered the holy grail for hair smooth and heat protection, for those who style the hair a lot. I've heard about this product before, but I didn't think it was so good, untill I bought it and used it today:
    CHI Silk Infusion https://www.amazon.com/CHI-Silk-Infu...+silk+infusion

My hair is thin, natural color, oily scalp. I have to wash it at every 2 days and also, I am styling it everytime, after bath ( normal blow dry, then Rowenta blow dry brush and then curling iron) and I was using some Wella Professional thermal proctection spray. I usually have a haircut at every 6 months, so I thought it's normal to have my ends really split and dry after so much time.

OH well, I used a peas size drop on my wet hair and it totaly transformed it. It looks like I just had a haircut. My ends are looking silky and smooth, they are not frizzy anymore and it looks like that have been sticked togheter hahahaha. It's awesome because it's extremely concentrated and u only need a small drop for the whole hair!!! Ok, I still go and have the haircut this week, but I am happy that, at the next haircut, my hair will look much better!

Now I will dig my nose into Morrocan Oil products ). I need some serum, to hydrate my ends, on dried hair, because the CHI Silk Infusion is only for wet hair.
