    Default Worried about my knees?

    Hello!

I don't know if there is a post about this, but I am really concerned... I started dancing about a week and a half ago, and this past week I did three days in a row. Since I don't know a lot of pole tricks, I have been doing a lot of floor-work, involving my knees.
I got a lot of bruises and they hurt a bit, but I wasn't worried because I'm fine with external physical pain.

But, the third day I was supposed to dance, I woke up and it hurt so badly to try to bend/use my knees...all day. They felt extremely swollen or something, perhaps fluid build up?

I went to work in the evening and girls were talking about permanent damage from Bursitus...and I mentioned the problem I was having with my knees and they're like "That's a huge problem, you can cause permanent damage; stop using your knees."

I don't really know how to stop using my knees, but is that the only option? Someone recommended to me a product that reduces inflammation in joints, but I forgot what it's called... Also, is it possible that this isn't something I have to worry about? I don't care much about pain, but I definitely care about if I permanently damage something. :/

    Thank you in advance!

Don't put your weight on the actual bony part of the knee. Use the inside meatier part and the thigh above the knee. As well, try to put more weight onto the fronts of your shoes, so you're more planking and gliding with the knees rather than crawling around on them.

But take a break from doing any floor work for right now until the swelling goes down.

Hot yoga is about to be your best friend. Helps keep he joints limber, and you sweat out all the toxins from drinking/smoking all night. I take magnesium supplements, and my boyfriend SWEARS by fish oil pills (he spends 10-25 hours a week in the gym). Arnica will help with bruises, but go to target, since it's fall, they'll have lots of thick thigh high socks, those rescue my legs (and help when I don't feel like shaving). But above all, listen to your body. If you need a break, take one. If you need to work the floor, take a break from stage. Come home and take a hot bath, your joints will thank you.

There are a surprising number of threads about knee problems! It's something new dancers don't realize until it happens to them.

There are plenty of floorwork moves that don't require your knees. Also try to do more dancing while standing, or use the pole without doing pole tricks... pose around it, lean on it, spin without climbing on it, etc. Moving very slowly will help time pass on stage.

Knee socks and knee pads (I made my own but cutting apart really thick socks) are your friend. I wear knee socks and get complimented on them all the time... guys think they're sexy, and they make you stand out.

This subject always reminds me of the Arctic Monkeys song...

I actually had really bad knee problems on one side all through my teens (sports related injury) and only had it bother me once or twice during dancing. When it did I wore a flesh colored brace and a gown on the floor. There really is no reason to be doing that much floor work. I know you're new and do not know pole tricks but just walk around up there and sway on the pole. You don't need to permanently damage your body your first week.

I don't mean to scare you, but if it's fluid build up, go see your doctor. I've gotten multiple staph infections in my knees and they can look like bursitis. Especially if you're not sure how often they clean the stage floor, go see the doctor asap. A good over-the-counter anti inflammatory is Aleeve, though.

I used to purchase tons of the longer stockings to protect my knees. They'd wear out quickly but worth every cent.

I would also like add: PVC Black Latex stripper boots, cork wedge shoes (saved my life)...back then I was working 2 doubles shifts, and my knees look liked someone took a bat and beat the shit out of it, so I understand.

and: ARNICAL GEL. ARNICA GEL . ARNICA Gel... sending you stripper magic your way. Also, I did lazy sexy poses, go SUPER SLOW and seductive, I am talking model poses, more of your hands on the mirror that will save your life and your back. I saw so many accidents: one including a girl doing a pole move and did not put her other hand on time, and fucking landing with her head first, breaking her head on the damn concrete.

These shoes by Tony has saved me from lots of slippage: (worth every fucking penny, even though they look so ugly) http://www.supersexyhighheels.com/in...d&filter_id=64

Googling more pole moves that will save your knees while wearing the PVC boots 1. The PVC material will stick to the pole, so you can save your knees. https://youtu.be/-z-JfPUY1HA
