    Default Glucomannan (Weightloss/Stomach sponge)

So I'm planning on buying a big bag of Glucomannan powder, it's made from konjac root which is the main ingredient in miracle noodles.
It'll help me lose weight that I'll gain this holiday season. What I know about it is: It's all organic. Vegan. It has a positive effect on cholesterol levels and increases satiety. Several studies have shown that glucomannan has these positive attributes. It can absorb 200 times its own weight in water. Con is it can cause constipation or dehydration but that is if it's not used in moderation. I plan to drink 1/2 a gallon a day so that won't be a problem.

I'll either make noodles with it or just mix a teaspoon of it in 2 cups of water and chug 15 min before a meal.

Has anyone had any experience with it?

Does it smell as bad as miracle noodles? I have always wanted to try them...but the one time I bought them, I just could not get past the smell.

It actually has very little odor. The noodle is just like tofu, it takes on the flavor of what ever it sets in. So to get rid of the plastic bag smell, you should rinse it under running water for 3 minutes and dry fry them on low heat until they firm. That works for me! Then I make pasta or ramen with it.

In all honesty, do you enjoy them? I just feel like to have no calories, they have to be too good to be true! lol

The only downfall is being constipated/dehydrated from abuse of it. Like, not drinking enough water. By food packaging rules you have a 5 cal wiggle room when labeling food. I would say they probably have no more than 5 calories in a 2.5-3 cup serving (prepared with water) but that is burned during digestion.

They have virtually no taste but you do have to drink it fast before it thickens if you want to do something quick and you're invited to a party, dinner, or going out to eat. I do enjoy making fried rice with the rice alternative with egg and mixed veggies with a tbsp of soy sauce. It makes me feel like I'm eating Chinese fast food but I'm not.

When I figured out how to properly clean and flavor the noodles, I lost 2-3 pounds a week easy. Then again I also didn't slip up just because I was eating healthy. I'm just going to switch to straight drinking the powder in water because cooking stresses me out.
