Did anyone hear about the robot who passed a classic self-awareness test? Now THAT's creepy.
The future is here.

Yes!! This is what I am talking about. My godfather/favorite Uncle is a hazmat certified truck driver; he is the youngest of my Mom's siblings..so maybe 15 years older than my tender young age. I would like to think a beer delivery is not the same as a delivery of a highly flammable fossil fuel; BUT this is the first time someone I am close to has to actually worry about losing their job to a robot. I agree with the earlier poster(s) that sex workers will not be replaced by robots for quite a long time because "Real Sex" dolls have already existed for some time. The people that buy them still are stuck with the same doll forever; unless they change it's wig.

Anybody planning on working for the next 20 years or so better pay attention. Time to expand your skills. This is pretty scary...
The Bank of England believes that machines might take over 80 million American and 15 million British jobs over the next 10 to 20 years, CNN Money reports, or 50% of the workforce in each of the two countries.

Also, in addition to robots replacing workers, if electric cars replace gasoline-powered cars, workers in the auto and oil industries will take big hits. Electric vehicles are much simpler to produce than gas-powered vehicles and require many fewer workers to build, and of course they don't need gas to run, so the oil industry will probably lose a lot of workers as well.

With AI and robotics there has been a tendency to underestimate implementation time. Even noted scientists predicted total automation in the 80s !!
A more reasonable assumption is a gradual change. BUT no one should assume they have a job for life anymore. Every single job can be disrupted. Other jobs get created but they'll never be lifetime jobs.

Damn. Should this generation even bother to have kids.....what is the point? It's like Terminator slowly happening. I don't want to talk to a robot at my local bar either.

Elon Musk chimes in:
Computers, intelligent machines, and robots seem like the workforce of the future. And as more and more jobs are replaced by technology, people will have less work to do and ultimately will be sustained by payments from the government, predicts Elon Musk, the iconic Silicon Valley futurist who is the founder and CEO of SolarCity, Tesla, and SpaceX.There is a pretty good chance we end up with a universal basic income, or something like that, due to automation," says Musk to CNBC. "Yeah, I am not sure what else one would do. I think that is what would happen. For example, in the future, semi-trailer trucks will be able to drive themselves. And though that won't become the status quo for a while, it will mean that there won't be a need for quite as many truck drivers, says Musk.
Some drivers will transition to fleet operators, responsible for monitoring the status of a fleet of trucks, not any one individual truck. If a truck appears to be having issues, then the fleet operator would come in remotely and solve the problem.

People said that about the industrial revolution too - they were slightly off, in hindsight. Farmers were stuck in a feudal economy barely above subsistence. Now, obviously, things are better. I think there's hope.

Lol I feel like west world is freaking people out hahaha. If robot prostitites become so self aware and conscious that nobody can tell the difference between them and real people, there is no human job that is safe and we are all fucked and society as we know it will collapse, etc etc. but by then who knows the opportunities real, humans will have or if society as we know it will even be around by then..by this time we were all supposed to be hover boarding around remember.

That's not true for jobs that require a license like nursing. Also, robots can't readily be employed without a social security number which they'll never get. But for things you don't need a social for (adult work), it's definitely a real threat. It's already infiltrated cam.
Even Steven Hawking said that we should NOT make alien contact because they are far superior in intelligence to us. This is where I suspect our rapid technology advancement came from in the first place. Because why would we have basically no technology for tens of thousands of years and then get this far in 100 years with rumors of alien spaceship crashes (Area 51, Roswell, etc). That just seems sus. And we probably haven't even encountered the super intelligent ones yet. What's to say that aliens aren't robots that were invented circa the Atlantis era by humans, and they outsmarted us, sunk Atlantis (which really happened), and then left? I believe we either came from aliens or created them.

They do use robots in th medical field, in fact my husbands family has a lawsuit out because his mother was killed but a robot performing her surgery. They have a long way to go trust me. But the medical field is not at all safe.
I still stand by my opinion that fields which require actual human contact and consciousness and conversation (sex work, therapists, artists etc) is the only safe job until somehow they even BEGIN to understand consciousness enough to give it to AI.
That's my opinion.i don't do camming or clips (yet) im a stripper/escort and when I say sex work I'm referring to that , you may be right about the Camming..that's not my field of expertise

just these examples alone are nursing staff, or nurses aids, there are others used to help deliver medication, or vitals checking, fetching errands like bringing food or clothes etc to elder patients ( more so in places like japan where the senior population is massive and far far far far outnumbers anyone younger which is rapidly declining so they NEED the help)
and until they have an AI and a DEEPER self awareness ( a few have already started asking existential questions about themselves) and i think show that awareness far exceeding their own programing, we may have to consider them living possibly, but until then? they can be anywhere we can and not need to have it as a job because they are property/tools/equipment and the medical field is one of the places actually really pushing and wanting these advancements and tools

^^^There's more than just shitty bedside nursing positions. No one wants to do bedside nursing tasks so I welcome all the robots in the world for that!
I'd like to see a robot be a cosmetic or dermatology robot injecting just the right amount of injectables as per the clients request while under their nursing license. Doubt they'd let a robot without a social security number do it since they won't even let a human esthetician do it lol.
I'd like to see a robot work as a rehab robot taking care of patients who are overdosing, detoxing, and dealing with mental health concerns lol.
I'd like to see a plastic surgery robot perform procedures on patients as per their request.
I'd like to see a flight robot rush to the scene of major accidents and use their judgment on how to save someone's life. Only artificial intelligence could get to that point, and again, medicine requires a license that is hard to get and keep. Doubt they'd ever give it to a robot.
Medical field is safe. It's always almost the entire list of safest jobs in a time of increasing technology just like the list linked above. You need a license to practice anyway. Dumb bedside tasks that CNAs do while making minimum wage can gladly be taken over by robots. That would save time and money. Nursing isn't just bedside. That's just 5% of that field.

I'm a big fan of computers. I can exploit them way more efficiently than people![]()
