Hey,
How many days a week do you lift weights?

Hey,
How many days a week do you lift weights?
I just changed gyms and I'm considering adding a third day each week for weight lifting.

I currently do 3x a week, full body. I find this works best for dancing full time and getting results but still recovering.

I do weights every day I go to the gym 5 days a week sometimes 6. I still do cardio for 30 mins and I have seen amazing results. But I am also carb cycling so I think that has helped a major way too.

I try and do a bit everyday to keep my muscle tone up..but if I really push myself I'll wait for the sore muscles to subside. After I have the baby I'll go to good hard workouts w weights 3-4 times per week, and cardio everyday

Slightly OT but are there any downsides to lifting everyday? I've figured out that cardio really does nothing for me and I'd rather lower my caloric intake and just do weight training machines/equip instead

Your body recovers and gains muscle while resting, so if you lift too often (especially while doing a physical job like dancing) you're leaving yourself prone to injuries and probably getting poorer results than if you took a few days off.
Usually beginners are recommended to do 3-4x a week, either doing full body, upper lower, or push-pull type splits.
"Beginner" in regards to weightlifting doesn't mean newbie, it's anyone whose max for one rep is less than a certain weight. Typically they are: for deadlifts 2x bodyweight, squats 1.5x bodyweight, bench is bodyweight, and overhead press of half bodyweight. It's really only once you move past those maxes that you need to be worrying about hitting the gym more often or doing bodypart splits. Whether you gain muscle and strength, lose fat etc will mostly come down to your diet and also how much effort you put in while you're there. You're better of killing 3-4 intense, difficult workouts in a week than going every day but not getting the same quality.

^^^ That's exactly why I don't even bother with cardio. It's a waste of time. I've been weight training only with massive instant results and I've never experienced this before. Yay
