Default receiving food stamps as an independent contractor?

so a friend of mine (and yes i really do mean a friend of mine, not myself haha) is a struggling camgirl. i don't know her that well, but she's very far behind on her bills and claims she can't even afford a bus ticket to get to and from a part time job at the moment. she's been told that she doesn't technically qualify for food stamps because you have to have proof of the hours you worked, and as camming is her only source of income, how the fuck would she do that? i feel like there has to be a way for independent contractors to receive government assistance. do any of you have any experience with this?

here's her cam link if by chance any of you wanna show her some offline love!

Sent her some loves but, had to deal with something very similar to her situation in getting them to approve. They will often give you a run around about what they will accept as proof on her case. The crap part would be having to actually go down to a main office to get them to do anything. (Also, you might want to remove her link if things are private)

Yes, SNAP benefits are available to self employed individuals. But, they have to provide proof of self-employment income in form of tax returns and/or 1099s. She could also provide business account deposits or payments from the cam service. Check the HHS regulations its all spelled out in detail.

She can get food stamps. She has to say she independent and they will go through her income
She will need all her bills and a piece of paper stating she independent with a contact phone number
She will need proof she works such as bank statements all though pay stubs are better

I use to be independent nail technician when I received food stamp for my daughter and myself. All she has to say is independent contractor.

Are you sure she wants the community knowing she is going through hard times? This can backfire into mean trolls and it is a public forum

The thing about government services is you need to be your own advocate with them, you need to keep applying and keeping talking to someone who will listen.

I just started dancing and have been wondering the same thing. Iat don't have paystubs or any paperwork as an independent contractor at the club I work at, and the money I have made thus far has not been deposited in my bank account. My plan is to lowball myself and say that I don't work very often and make tips, and give some low estimate of how much I make monthly. I have a couple part time jobs that are on the books, but I don't make enough from those to be able to pay my rent, so it wouldn't make sense to say that I only work those jobs and not stripping. My boyfriend has given me a lot of advice since he's been through the whole application process, but of course he's not familiar enough with the stripping industry to know how to work that in when applying.

Is it worth risking jail and a criminal record?

Also you are draining the system that way. There are people who need it who honestly don't make enough. If you make enough and don't need food stamps, don't play the system. The rest of us who are being honest with our taxes do not want to pay for you if you can take care of yourself.

the thing about it is it depends on what state youre in, they make u jump thru hoops if youre self employed to be able to get food stamps. its pretty fucking ridiculous . like as a sex worker you cant really control how much u make. you might make 1,000 a week and another week you might make 100 it just depends . better to prove your income with your tax return.

    This is true.

I refuse to use food stamps because the one time I applied they offered such a low amount per month I said "F it" and went back to stripping. Sometimes it's not even worth the bother to use the system when you can hustle up something else.

Good luck OP. States vary in how easy they make food stamp access. Your social worker will have the right answers.

I have always prided myself on not "using the system".

If you can get along without the help....why literally steal the food from someone else's mouth?

These things are paid for by taxes. You are either causing your family and friends' taxes to rise or limiting someone else's access to survival. Its not a game. And illegal for a reason.

when i worked as a retail assistant manager. I couldn't afford groceries. It was a real pain in the fucking ass and at 1 point i had another part time job working over 60 hours a week if not more . My rent was low only 375 plus water plus electric plus car payment and insurance and cell phone . didnt have cable or wifi or netflix or anything else extra and I'd only have an extra 200 a month after paying bills for GAS and GROCERIES FOR THE WHOLE MONTH. me and my son had to live off ramen from the dollar store. food stamps told me i made too much in gross (which is just taxes, you dont even get that in your check!) And they denied me. I was making about 1600-1700 in take home a month and they denied me . the system is flawed. You can only eat ramen and vienna sausages so many times beforeyou lose your shit. explains why i was so skinny back then lmao

Dang you sound like the perfect candidate. I can't believe they denied you. Your situation is exactly what it's for.

I managed to feed myself and my boyfriend for $225 a mo. We were both full time students (could not apply for any type of aid , food, housing or otherwise in my state) I was working 2 jobs and he had one, the pay was shit. Honestly what helped was getting on aderall. Lol $5 a mo for a generic I'd wake up at 6 am , eat breakfast by 8 and would not experience hungry again until about 6pm. Now mind you I was not abusing, "partying", and was taking if for the prescribed ( legal) reasons.

If you don't have add/adhd and don't want to legally risk the following may help:

If you live near farmer's market go at the end of the day. I'm talking 30 mins before they shut down and you can get essentially what's left over at the end of the day for super cheap, I'm talking like $1 a pound/ basket/ bunch. That was the main way we ate fresh veggies and fruits.

Day old/ discount bakeries for breads ( again very cheap)

Buying dried beans and rice in bulk. Go to ethnic grocery stores for spices ( day 7 of beans and rice isn't too bad when you can change the flavor up). Fuck McCormick $5 for a tiny bottle of cayenne pepper you can get 8 oz for $2 ( for example). If you don't have any near you shop in those itty bitty ethnic aisles and get the Badia ones.

If you eat meat find a butcher/ meat market, many sell small freezer packs for cheap.
You will also live if you don't eat it everyday.

Learn to love water! Toss a lemon or lime in it.

If you have a friend in the military that lives on or has access to base give them some $ to go grocery shopping for you. Sometimes the prices in the commissary are better than civie grocers.

If you can come up with the funds for a costco membership get one. $15 for a 1.75 L of vodka is pretty sweet.

That's so dumb. At the very least you'd think you'd get some leeway for having a child dependant on you. Listening to you and some of the others I don't know how my mom did it back in the day.

Costco takes EBT btw. & if you split the annual membership with another person (you can have 2 people on the account) it's about $25 per person annually.
