Personally I have a strong preference for the mods to close this thread.

You have a point. Come on folks. There is a fine line between discussing current events and expressing personal POLITICAL opinions. Easy does it. Let's avoid any and all name-calling and the personal faults and flaws of both candidates and all should be well.
Lets' leave the analysis of who won and who lost and all the "hows and whys" to all those sites and blogs where such stuff is more welcome than it is here.

He may have won the battle, but he put off every single minority. I'm devastated and heartbroken but not much left to do but see what happens... God help us all.

I saw this thread since it started this morning and I'm hoping it doesn't go nuts. If not, it will be closed. If it bothers anyone, you can report it.

^^^^THIS
I won't weigh in just suffice it to say it was a hard fought campaign on both sides and I'm glad we're out of limbo. I hope we can all bank big in the coming years and our livelihood is unhurt by the Conservative mandate. With all the money Trump has given to Clinton they apparently have overlap. Let's hope it results in money, money, money mooooo-ney!

Yeah I think they Both had some scandals.
I personally was hoping for a president that was more wholesome and less scandalous but hey people and life is imperfect
Fox News reporting immigration to Canada website crashed. It can't handle the traffic of all the people currently researching this topic.

FLORIDA!! OHIO!! PENNSYLVANIA!! WISCONSIN!! Four states that Obama won in 08 and 12 that Trump won this time with 77 electoral votes between them. A fifth state (Michigan, 16 electoral votes) is still a tossup, but leaning Trump. Michigan also went for Obama in 08 and 12. Along with 2 others (PA, WI) have gone for Democratic candidate in prior presidential elections going back to at least 1992. Anybody wishing to know the hows and whys would do well to study those 5 states. Just 2 or 3 of those states voting differently would have led to a different outcome.
Moving on, I agree with the gist of Rick and Eric posts. My (and probably others concerns) is that we now have the executive branch and both houses of Congress controlled by the same party. Being an independent moderate (mostly), I don't relish a runaway freight train at either end of the spectrum. Another big picture item would be the potential appointees at various levels of government that can have a profound and lasting impact on peoples lives that extend beyond a 4 year (or whatever) term. Just remember that all 435 House members and 33 Senators are coming up for re-election in 2018, and to go out and vote.
With that, I'm bowing out of thread before it closes.

I know. I thought that was pretty funny.
I LOVE Canada. I have family and friends that live there. But I wouldn't want to live there. And if it were up to me anyone who is moving there just to escape Trump ought to have to live in "Winterpeg " lol. Or the Yukon. Or Newfoundland.
I stayed up and watched the returns on CBS , and Fox and for comic relief MSNBC. Disappointment I can understand but some of the hysterical doom and gloom from folks like Van Jones was a bit much. Folks, it was "just an election ". We've survived over 50 of them. Checks and balances. Remember ? Even Bush The Dumber was limited by the SCOTUS and on occasion his own appointees. In two years there will be congressional elections and in four there will be a referendum on Trump.
Would I let my daughter go out with Trump ? No. Work for him ? Hmmm , I dunno. I wouldn't let her work for Bill. I would let her work for Hillary but I
wouldn't buy a used car from her. So what ? The choice was what it was.
Btw, I didn't vote for either of them. I left the Pres line on my ballot blank.

I don't think much will change. The president is a puppet /figurehead. He's not the one pulling the strings and as much as he may want it, he will not be given that power im sure.
to be honest, as someone of the lbgt side, as someone who can't ( nor can my wife and children) go without our healthcare ( which washington is decent alone, but we'd loose majority of our desperately needed care with the loss of ACA unless there actually IS something better but I still smell return to having to pay a ton) I dont fully worry about the politics a lot. Not as much as i could at least.
the thing however that has me most concerned is the precedent set as far as the public message as to what behavior is considered appropriate and alot of social progress taking a huge step back, most5ly in the minds and at the hands of the man on the street who - in this city atleast- already really started to become more aggressive verbally and physically towards those who dont fit the good old boy mold, and we had the aryan nation joy riding through town lastnight in celebration- northern idaho was and still is a strong hold for that group and they bled over into eastern washington - so atleast for now the environment from the average person is more dangerous for now than the government. That and the markets crashing and many nations already poised to pull out as well poses a pretty healthy risk of a resession or depression. will it happen? dont know yet, it might not. but ive sorts decided to not really give in to the doom and gloom and or the urge to run, I may move to the west side of the state, but I'm pretty determined now to actually fight and do so in a platform and in a way thats more noticeable rather than being an armchair politician,
heh ive even started using the phrase " welcome to the Rebel Alliance "

I like being alone, I just don't like being lonely.
I'd only move to Canada to check out legal escorting and other cools stuff they have America doesn't. It's way too cold and I'd probably only be able to live there summers.
I hope the change isn't too drastic either. I'd like to see things like women's rights, civil rights, etc maintained. Of course change is inevitable and just gotta adapt in a way one can still thrive.
And what does Hilary and Bill having 250 mill in assets mean?

Its interesting to see a new world order come to light in recent years and how the general population globally has a completely different veiw on politics compared to the past. Politics can no longer be the old boys club (globally, not just the usa or uk) and people are getting fed up with the elitest forcing what they want down our votes, so what do we do? We vote for the options of change. The change may seem dark at the begginning but it can only get llighter after the darkness.

This. All day. I'm going to enjoy taking their money even more now.
America made it's bed. Time to lay in it. If things really get rough around here, I can always go back to my home country lol.
If you look up class in a dictionary, Obama's picture is there. He is class personified. I'll miss him.
With a Republican house and senate? Brace yourselves.
Personally, I was disappointed this morning. So disappointed you would've thought someone I loved died but
I feel good knowing that people are more involved in our political process. Secondly, everyone that voted for this guy
deserves everything that comes out of this - whether good or bad. This is either going to be the best thing that ever
happened to America or the biggest mistake of our lives. Enjoy your day folks.
I don't have a lot of time but while the discussion is active I would like to add:
The last time the United States refused entry to an entire religion it was European Jews during the Holocaust.
I am a registered independent and do not understand why people think HRC is SO terrible. She has had more federal investigations targeted at her than there were after September 11, 2001 and was ALWAYS CLEARED. She has been a part of two administrations that left us better off.
I am deeply ashamed of myself for not doing more to keep Pennsylvania blue. I thought it was in the bag. I knew people who were voting for Trump or Johnson and didn't care because the polls had an ok lead. I was so happy when Trump win the Republican ticket because I thought this lunacy was only going to destroy the Republican party. I think this is terrifying and America has regressed more than I ever thought possible. People are so easily swayed by fear mongering and yelling, can't take thirty minutes over 18 months to do their own fact checking (she's raising your taxes bigly! I am cutting taxes bigly!) I think we are in for a world of hurt.
Hilary Clinton has a thousand times more grace than I can muster because now that it's done I hope people who voted Trump get what they asked for.

Whoever helped Hillary dodging the federal justice in the past needs to be removed from the next administration. DOJ needs reform. Director of FBI needs to go. These people bent the rules for Hillary are also breaking the law and their work code.
Plus, if it's possible, we need to change our voting process. The electoral college votes have to reflect the popular votes proportionally, in which Hillary could have won this election. But that's what the real democracy is about. The "all or nothing rule" is absurd.

I can't believe it... my anxiety is through the roof.
With our government system of checks and balances, it's hard for any president to accomplish much in 4-8 years. He'll have a Republican House and Senate, and some supreme justice picks, but I highly doubt they will allow World War 3 or the next Holocaust to take place.
Trump and Hillary were the worst picks possible. Way to go, two-party system... this is what happens when you give us no choice.
