Default Your Favorite Tried and True Thanksgiving Recipes

Every year since I was a kid we went to my grandparents house for Thanksgiving, but this year because my grandpa is bedridden he has requested a quiet Holiday season. That means the separate Thanksgiving with just immediate family. And that also means that I'm cooking a side dish.....! So there my be several trips to the ER and several causalities. Anywhoo, I've been tasked with cooking a simple yet one one my very favorite side dishes, but I like some ideas for a second side dish or dessert. So post your favorite tried and true recipes, or post something that you are thinking of trying. Everyone is welcome to post something. It can be something that you cook or a family member cooks or even if you are planning on eating at a restaurant what you are planning on ordering.

Everyone knows I can't cook, so the family gave me something simple, but delish!!!

For someone with limited cooking skills, Tollhouse chocolate chip cookies make a great dessert option. You can find the recipe on every bag of Nestle semi-sweet chocolate chips. They are easy to make compared to most baked goods. Just don't deviate from the recipe, at all, and you'll have a yummy homemade cookies that taste better than any choc chip cookies you will buy in a store bakery.

    Good luck!

My mom used to serve Hawaiian salad as a side dish: 1 can Mandrian oranges, mini marshmallows, coconut, pineapple, & mix w/sour cream

Or, you could buy a ready made pie shell, fill it w/any number of tasty fillings, puddings, etc

Ok, Idk if you'd be into this, but a green bean bake? You take some green beans, (canned is fine) put 'em in a baking dish (not for long though as they're mostly already cooked) & you sprinkle bacon pieces on top, if you don't like bacon, you can leave that off.
    put slivered almonds on top!

Oooh not food but I made buttered rum the other night and it was SO good. Definitely not for 'with' your meal or if you're dieting though!

    - 1 stick butter + 2/3 cup of brown sugar; you're supposed to use an electric mixer, but I just slowly melted these in a pot while stirring until it was a 'sludge'
    - Add 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon + 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg + 1/8 teaspoon cloves
    - Add 2 cups boiling water, then 3/4 cup of spiced rum. Garnish with cinnamon sticks if you're feeling fancy!
"People jack off with the left hand and point with the right."

"You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave."

This one is so easy and everyone loves it:

    Crimini or Portobello mushrooms
    Butter
    Olive Oil
    Worcester Sauce
    Apple Jelly
    Lemon Juice

Remove stems, put mushrooms in pan
On low heat, add one stick butter
    One half cup olive oil
    4 tablespoons lemon
    1 tablespoon apple jelly
    4 tablespoons Worcester Sauce

Simmer as long as you can. This makes robust, flavorful mushrooms with a hint of sweet and citrus.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, all these ideas sound so delish!!!. Well almost all the ideas. Mice....not so much, but maybe if they were cooked right, who knows. Anywhoo, you get an "A+" for effort. I think I'm going to try these either now or for Christmas or a special dinner, so keep them coming.

Of course all types of recipes are welcome. So drinks, appetizers, regional foods, ethnic foods etc.

    Thanksgiving family stories?
