    Default Website design

I found a sexy wordpress theme i love and want to use but it's premium and I have bad memories of the last time i bought a premium theme. It was a total waste as I couldn't get it to look ANYTHING like the demo! This one apparently doesn't include the images used in the demo so i expect it'll be the same scenario again. The theme itself is $69. I'm wondering if i could maybe just show it to a designer and ask them to make me pretty much the same thing, and put all the images in it for me. Could you get this kind of service off sites like fivver/ elancer etc? I'm such a cheapo and hate paying a lot for things esp when there's a chance i might hate it afterwards and spend hours messing with it anyway. Anyone on here do website design, or who could set up the new theme for me if i bought it (for a fee obs)?

Honestly, you get what you pay for with web design, especially with Wordpress themes.

If you get a theme off the shelf for $69, a wordpress developer can probably set it up the way you want in a day's work, depending how complicated your requirements are. £200-300 would be a fair price for that for a UK dev, but you may be able to find a student, or somebody overseas who can do it cheaper.

To develop a theme you like from scratch - even to copy one you like - could be a week's work and £1000 would be on the cheaper end. Off-the-shelf themes are good value!

You can definitely find somebody on Elance or Fiverr or People Per Hour to do it, but if they quote you much less than the ballpark I mention, I would seriously wonder what's wrong with their service and where they're cutting corners.

ETA If you're stuck for anyone, I can help you out for student rates, but if an actual pro developer chimes in definitely go with them x

Just because you can doesn't mean you should. That's stealing. Someone actually put time into designing and coding those themes.

Susie why not contact the designer directly and ask them about the photographs used? They may even assist you with some modifications if you buy it. But ask first of course. Check to see if they have a twitter page.

    Your missing my point....

With html everything that could ever be created already has. Everything is css that could ever be created already has. Everything is javascript that could ever be created has.

Nothing worse than buying a template and its already available for free with extra bells and whistles on it.

Pretty much every javascript ever created
    javascriptsource.com
    Tons of dynamic scripts
    http://dynamicdrive.com
    Css scripts
    http://www.cssscript.com

Nothing worse than someone selling something they found for free cut and paste and added a few images and end up paying loads for something that already was free. And yes templates that are free do get jazzed up with a few images when the actual code has nothing to do with images

No i didnt miss the point. She doesn't know if the design she wants to use has been stolen and revamped. Sure you can always shop around to see if the code has originated from a different source. But assuming that something you find on the net is up for grabs because you found it on the net is stealing. A disregard for intellectual property rights is something cammodels deal with on a daily basis. I place snatching source code from websites in the same ball park. But of course people are gonna do whatever they want.

And morality aside if you get caught using a theme that you didn't purchase or have no rights to, you could lose your website. A person could contact your host and provide proof that it's stolen material.

Spend the 69 dollars, I've used templates that came with all the images, I uploaded the site just like the demo and then gradually changed each section of the site so it had the same "look" as the template I like dos much in the demo.

I'm a Wordpress developer here and it takes a lot of time to make themes. You can rip it off in HTML, but the functions.php won't be there so the functions won't be there. It's basically copying the front of it, but none of the bones that make it tick. 69 dollars is fair for a theme to be honest, because again it takes a lot of time to create themes. If you purchase the theme, then you can tweak it to your liking & get support from the creator. Win Win.

If you pay someone $5 to create a website, expect a website with tons of bugs. Then you will end up paying a lot more over the long run because of mess ups. What you do after purchasing a theme is see if the theme comes with a demo XML file. Then you import images & content. Viola, it should be pretty much what you see. If it doesn't work, going into "Appearance" and seeing the theme's settings and it should be fairly user friendly. You need that XML file to get the demo like when you first purchased it.
