    Default Uneven blonde hair-- HELP!!!

    Hey guys. Thanks for reading!

Vent warning! (You can skip this.)

I started doing my own hair because my hairstylist wasn't doing my roots correctly. I'm a level 5 brunette, and I want level 8-9 blonde hair. She mostly did a good job, but last time I spent $260 for her to give me level 6-7 brown/blonde roots which didn't match my light blonde hair. I'm not paying that much money for her to fuck it up again. I had to cut off ~6" of my hair because of how damaged it was when my hair was in her hands.

As such, I moved on to learning how to do it myself. My hair has been very shiny and healthy. It is in better health than when my hairdresser was doing it! Bonus: No more having to cut my hair from chemical damage.

    ANYWAY!

    Here's my dilemma--

While my hair is a beautiful and shiny level 8-9 blonde...I have some patchiness. There's some spots where the roots have overlapped. The spots are small (~3mm) but...to me, it's really apparent.

How can I color correct this? Should I go to the salon and get highlights? I'm trying to get a good base blonde, and I'm a bit of a perfectionist.

I'm in the process of adding some leave-in Adore color in both Cajin Spice and Paprika. Do you think these leave-in colors will cover the patchiness up? Here's the product. https://www.amazon.com/Adore-Creativ.../dp/B004M5SX7G

There are a few ways to make this better.

You can tone it. I buy Wella's lightest beige blonde for my hair, and it makes all my hair a tad darker, but gets rid of the uneven parts.

If you are patient enough, shimmering lights shampoo will eventually take out any brassiness in your hair.

All these are available at Sallys.

Honestly though, you should probably stop fucking with your hair for a while. Bleach all the way though is unnecessary to achieve blonde. Just highlight the top layer when your roots grow out, and it will look solid gold.

It sounds like you might have some bands going on. As a platinum blonde myself this is super annoying. My current hairdresser uses olaplex and 10 vol developer on my bands but she is super careful with them. It's a slow process, but she is slowly evening out my hair from all the bad bleach jobs I've had over the years. Funny thing she is the cheapest hairdresser I've had do my blonde and my hair has grown so long with her.

I wouldn't recommend highlights or a toner. Maybe every once a while go to a professional and tell them you want them to just focus on lightening the bands carefully. I try to do my bands on different days than my roots. I have level 2 roots so bands happen pretty often. My hair dresser just touches them up as we go along.

When I'm bleaching my roots I wait five min before I have to wash it out, and then "pull it through" the midshafts a bit by just kinda blending the bleach a bit to where it would "band". Then I do the same w my wella toner. If that doesn't work well enough I moisturizer the crap outta my hair for a few days and then go back over it w bleach. Treat your hair w olaplex and soak it in coconut oil overnight before bleaching (yes, bleach on top of oil soaked hair) to keep damage down. Also helps it go on more evenly.
I also keep my hair fairly short when I'm light blond to cut down on damage. When you do extreme colors sometimes sacrifices have to be made haha

Thanks guys! Yeah, I'm having serious problems with bleach banding. I didn't know that was the name for it. Unfortunately, it from bleach overlap in some spots.

Obviously I'll avoid bleach overlap in the future, but how can I fix the overlap banding in places it already exists? Can I color over it? What should I do? How can I blend it?

You will need to individually clip the hair up in layers, starting by filling the patches and doing a second application to blend the rest of the hair. Meaning you will need to bleach the areas around the spots if they are darker than the rest of your hair. I hate patches because they are a pain in the a** to correct without a second hand to handle the back. For this use a stand up mirror and direct it towards a bathroom mirror, so you have a good visual of what you are doing. If the patches are in the middle, start by doing the roots down. DO NOT color over the patches, as it won't do much to resolve the base being in different tones..unless you want brown to black. Adding conditioner, purchasing a protein filler or Olaplex to add with the bleach might help grip the hair without over layering. Make sure that when you are whipping up a batch of bleach, that it is a creamy consistency that is able to move than sticky and thick. The only way to fix this problem, is to do another process by watching the lift carefully till the spots are even.

The patches are overbleached, not underbleached.

Honestly, I'd @ least have a consultation w/a pro beautician (& go from there)..this's one reason I just color my own hair, yea there's some bleach in it (I use Sally dyes) but it's different from having the degree of lifting you need.
I've had pro highlights, they still show in my hair, it's more an ombre now, but it still looks good. Me personally, if I feel (& that time's coming) I need more lightness, I would go have a 'foil touchup' only)
This kind of thing is tricky in my opinion, I wouldn't begin be any help, but that's my advice^.
    Good luck w/e you decide.
