I don't really like talking about race, but something from audition yesterday (didn't get in, but after this incident, I'm not sure I would work there anyway) at vivid. Now I'm not going to give any names, but when I went to audition, as soon as the housemom had seen me, she had this frightened, deer in the headlights look the entire time she was talking to me. She was friendly of course, but her eyes almost spoke fear, or at least the vibes I picked up from her at the time.
Now, I am a light skinned black girl with a lot of yellow overtones (like a tan) and am pretty thin and I have dreads, I also had on some decent make up and a good outfit (no stripper shoes) but I can't help but wonder about how she was staring at me. Now, I've never had experienced any prejudice or racism growing up so I don't have any previous experiences to relate to this one. But the way she was staring is stuck in my head a little bit. I'm not hugely bothered by it though.
Are things sometimes like this against certain people of color in the clubs, especially in the more upscale ones? I went to hoops and did not receive the same kind of hostility there.
Anyone else experienced this?
