Default How do you shoot videos by yourself?

This may be an evident question but I’ll still ask. It is directed for those who shoot their video content themselves, without a camera person.
    My questions are

    • What shooting material do you use: webcam, DSLR camera or camcorder?
    • In one clip, is your camera position the same or do you move it often to get different angles?
    • How do you know if you’re still in the frame when you move / are in action?

    For my case

    • I use a DSLR camera so I can’t see myself on the computer (like the webcam does) and I have no second screen to see (like the camcorder)
    • For the majority of my clips, I try to change the camera position so there is at least 2 different angles views in my clip.
    • I move a lot in my clips but I try to stay in an imaginary square that I define in advance in order to stay in the camera frame. I also use a big mirror that I put behind the camera so I can see myself on the mirror through the camera screen. It helps, even if the image is small.

My methods are not very practical and tiring. I’m wondering if I should buy a camcorder because I sometimes take ages to shoot a 10 min video. What are your methods?

Use a video cam with hi res, good low light (natural sunlight looks best if you can capture it, artificial low light tends to create a yellow cast), and image stabilizing capacity. The big ones only look impressive, for self shot use a small one.

Change your angles as little as possible. You want the viewer to imagine they are there.

Most video cams have a flexible monitor, but it is ok to center the shot. The more you shoot the easier this gets. Be prepared for your early work to suck.

I use a DSLR on a tripod, but it has tethering and live view so I can see myself on my laptop while I film. I always film from one angle because my videos tend to be 10 minutes long and its not worth the hassle of relocating and refocusing my camera.

I already use an external mic, but my camera doesn't have a exrernal mic port so I have to edit the sound together, multiple angles would mean multiple videos and multiple sound files so it's not worth it.

I tend to move around a little bit within my field of focus so I'm not just sitting in front of the camera. No one seems to mind.

I use a high end webcam or my phone (depending on the clip).
My recording software gives a live feed of what I'm shooting so I know that I'm in frame.
Depending on the clip, I do move it a bit. Some videos have 5 different angles, others only have one or two. I do a large range of video lengths though (3-30 minutes), so it depends on what's called for and the length.

I use my HD webcam and an HD mic through my laptop and I can see myself on my laptop screen. I will change the position of the webcam during filming if that's what's needed in the clip. I've used my iphone for filming too.

If your camera has an HDMI port, you might be able output to a TV screen for monitoring. Some cameras stop the output when recording starts, but even so it can help to have a live preview while you set up and frame the shot.

Thank you girls. I'll try with the HDMI port to TV screen and see if it works. I can still use my Logitech C270 HD720p but I'm not satisfied neither with the video quality, nor the format (it does not shoot with 1080p).

Haha just realized you probably meant "by yourself OF yourself" - I assumed you meant you were the camera with other talent. If these answers don't help, the cam girls on here are tech geniuses.

Use your webcam and point it at the back of the DLSR screen and then you can do some inception style filming If you use logitech's webcam software you will be able to see what the DSLR is pointing at so you're always in frame.

My Logitech is a C270, highest resolution with it is 720p, I also use the Logitech software. I tried shooting on 720p with my camera and compared the video with the Logitech webcam's, the quality on my camera is far away better.
