This may be an evident question but I’ll still ask. It is directed for those who shoot their video content themselves, without a camera person.
My questions are
- What shooting material do you use: webcam, DSLR camera or camcorder?
- In one clip, is your camera position the same or do you move it often to get different angles?
- How do you know if you’re still in the frame when you move / are in action?
For my case
- I use a DSLR camera so I can’t see myself on the computer (like the webcam does) and I have no second screen to see (like the camcorder)
- For the majority of my clips, I try to change the camera position so there is at least 2 different angles views in my clip.
- I move a lot in my clips but I try to stay in an imaginary square that I define in advance in order to stay in the camera frame. I also use a big mirror that I put behind the camera so I can see myself on the mirror through the camera screen. It helps, even if the image is small.
My methods are not very practical and tiring. I’m wondering if I should buy a camcorder because I sometimes take ages to shoot a 10 min video. What are your methods?

If you use logitech's webcam software you will be able to see what the DSLR is pointing at so you're always in frame.
