Thought it it would be useful to start a thread like this, where we can all share awesome tips for great photos or advertising related to photos.
- Bigger is not necessarily better. Huge, roomy lofts can work if the decor is right, but keep mind that the photographer can on capture so much space in the photo. So just make sure that the area is well decorated and doesn't have a ton of empty space if this is the case.
- Wherever your shoot is, whether it's at a studio or upscale hotel/airbnb, chose colours, tones, and shades of lingerie/outfits that match your background! Certain outfits will photograph well anywhere (I.e. Blacks, neutrals). Bonus: choose outfits that will reflect light, such as metallics, sequin, and rhinestone outfits.
- Speaking of rhinestones... You can even buy Swarovski (which DO look better than regular rhinestones btw) rhinestones cheaply in bulk and sew or glue them onto your outfits. If glueing, use E600 glue and if buying bulk Swarovski, make sure it's from a reputable seller.
- Pasties! This way you can show if your sexy nude silhouette without showing any "pink". You can find some really elegant ones on etsy. They start at around $30. You can also make multiple ones for the same price really easily by using that glittery craft foam sheets, double sided tape, bobby pins, and hot glue/E600 craft glue.
- If you want to try a new make-up look for your shoot, try it out well before the shoot so you're not fumbling around the day of and mess it up.
- If diy-ing your photographs bc you're just starting out and/or money is tight, that's not the end of the world. A few tips, use natural lighting. If you don't have good natural lighting, maybe your friend's place does?
- Have a clean space!!
- Dont shoot in a crappy hotel/motel. Just don't. It screams cheap and won't help you attract the right clientele.
- Something my photographer told me at my shoot yesterday: Don't release all your new photos at once!! Just one or two new ones at a time... and don't always post one OR two. Why? To keep them guessing. If you always post one and make it your main photo, they will know that's the ONLY new photo you have. If you sometimes post one, sometimes two, they will be compelled to click on your ad to check it out. My photographer said she used to consult women who sold their photos online, and the ones who used this approach made the most money consistently.
- Also, if you notice the beginning or end of the month are slower post it then! Again, keep the and don't be too predictable with your approach. Don't post the exact same day of the months.
- Marketing idea bonus: if you can afford this, do outfits for different holidays: Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, Valentine's Day, St Patrick's Day, 4th of July (or your country's equivalent)... These one's may be a stretch but just throwing ideas out there. Maybe experiment with the following themes: Spring break, summer fun in the sun, winter wonderland, Back to school... etc, Be creative!! You definitely don't have to do all holidays/themes, maybe try one or two. I know I'm definitely going to try st Patty's day, Easter Day, and Canada shots at my next shoot since we all know late spring/early summer is brutal. I'll letch'all know if it's a success.
