Default Should prostitution be legalized in the United States?

Like in all 50 states, not just Nevada. I personally am all for it if it were well regulated.

    Pros :
    - Adds money to the economy
    - There is consent thus people should be able to do what they wish with there body
    - Improve public health
    - More jobs

    Cons :
    - Immoral
    - Possibly degrading to women
    - As women age they cannot continue this 'job' due to possible lack of customers

Prostitution is already legal in other countries such as Mexico, Indonesia, Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, Poland, the Netherlands, Portugal, the Czech Republic, Austria, etc.

    http://prostitution.procon.org/view....ourceID=000772

I'd like very much to see your opinion on this.

Default Re: Should prostitution be legalized in the United States?

Yes. I think it should be illegal. I do not think prostitution conducted by adults is immoral. America is so sexually repressed it is not even funny. I think that is fucked up and hurtful to women.

I also think that legalized prostitution would greatly decrease human trafficking; which is such a huge problem and given very, very little attention. I did a speech on it in college maybe 5 years back or so and got a shitty grade because the topic was "too controversial". Really?? I didn't think there was much controversy about the fact kidnapping kids, teens and young adults and letting people rape them for a profit was something that would have opinions on both sides.

I do not see women aging as a "con". There are LOTS of jobs where this is the case. No one tries to make modeling or acting or working at Hooters illegal to protect the women that are too old or unattractive to do it. Women are allowed to do this as well as strip, cam, bartend, be trophy wives, pro dommes, product models etc. all capitalizing on their sexuality. Do not think that legalized prostitution or prostitution in general is limited to women. There are so many men and transexual people in the sex trade as well.

Lastly, and I know this part is going to be a bit unpopular... I am pretty open to open relationships. If I were to ever get married again or even have a serious boyfriend I would be far less pissed if I found out they were with a hooker than carried on an emotional relationship type of affair with some other woman just cause they wanted some strange.

    All you cons are bullshit.

Immortal? Who the fuck are you to judge either clients or sex workers?

Goes double for degrading to women, it's in the eye of the beholder and some people get off on pretending their being degraded. And many sex workers aren't female.

Pro atheletes also age and eventually have to quit, it has no baring on legalization.

Pro it respects human rights and freedoms
    Pro it gives people pleasure
    Pro low carbon foot print
Pro helps people get access to expensive educations, with less debt afterwards
Pro it's a wonderful opportunity to meet new interesting people
Pro it will make America less oppressive
Pro it will hurt the American prison slave market
Pro it will undermine abusive assholes
Pro it will actually make many American cities worth visiting
Pro speed up the already existing decline of rape rates.

Pro it helps people feel less lonely
Pro it's away for people to explore their kinks with a professional
Pro it's a great way to save up to start your business
    And there many more.
Pro it will piss off radical feminists, social conservatives and all purpose assholes who think they're some kind of gods.

Yes it should be legal yet regulated. This way the black market would weaken and it would be safer for women or men and their clients. It should be regulated so adults don't involve kids or do stuff in public.

If it were legal, I'd start an agency tomorrow.

Of course it should be legalized, to go even further a public apology and reparations to all of the people jailed (the real victims) of this crusade of the insecure.

I do because I don't think it's anyone's business what 2 adults decide to do in the bedroom. Why is sex such a big deal?

I don't think that pimping should be legal. I think that if women are independent they should be able to call the police for help, and be able to advertise their services in adult friendly places. Honestly all of the major problems with Prostitution are from pimps, and as far as girls getting hurt, if we were really able to call the police and they helped us, this would be a lot less likely to happen.

What's immoral is throwing consenting adults in jail for having sex, just because money was exchanged.

    Just to be Devil's advocate.....

I recall one of our SW members becoming an escort in a legal area, and being somewhat appalled at the level of services and price being offered by many.

Do you think with legalization would come proliferation, and dropping prices and or rising demands for broader 'services'?

Is decriminalization a concept worth exploring or just a scam?

Legalization is fine, but think about what is it you desire. Do you really want broad acceptance of sex for cash? People tend to think in terms of changing one thing and then having the whole world remain the same around them

    This is rarely the case.

    Think about porn.

In the early 70's porn was small time, you went to a sticky theater to see it, a few court cases, VCRs...bang, millions, billions are made, porn actresses can make big money, the internet, billions, trillions are made, but then............saturation. I can watch any sex act with any type of person any time of day or night....for free. Porn actresses make little money again, newcomers are demanded to do ever more degrading things in their first film and their career is measured in weeks, usually just to advertise their escorting business. Hell, I would probably never run out of porn to watch for which no one was paid a dime.

    Is this progress?

I think that there could be an argument made that long term full legalization is not in the financial interests of sex workers.

I'm not saying you should agree with that argument, just that it can be made

I am an escort in Mexico. The main gain of having prostitution legalized is that this activity was taken away from some of the shadiest aspects od the society, making it safer for us. Obviously, there is still human trafficking. Regarding "degradation"; so far it has not been anything beyond being called "whore".

    Interesting.

Idk. I think just because something is legal doesn't mean everyone is going to rush out and do it. Liquor is legal yet not everyone does it/many prefer to abstain.

I remember people thing the world was going to end when weed became legal in several states.

I don't think it will be broad acceptance. Just the current buyers and sellers within the black market (doing it the normal consenting way) won't be criminalized.

There will be people who won't participate, won't agree, etc. I think if it's regulated like how weed is there won't be mass chaos. Like it's legal but there are still rules to follow. Ex. Can't do it in public, can't do it in states it's not legal, have to be over 21, must pay taxes, etc.

Only thing I wonder about is stds and the clients, or escorts, who try to go bareback. I would be against that condomless sex possibly spreading disease or causing unintended pregnancies / abortions.

I think it should be decriminalized but don't necessarily agree with regulation. The US being the US I could see a lot of bullshit regulations being put in place to "protect" workers that actually screw them over. But I also don't feel like I'm the best person to speak on this since I've never done full service sex work...

Yes, it should be legal. It makes things much safer for sex workers and there is NO REASON two consenting adults can't have sex if they want..oh but if money is exchanged suddenly we clutch our pearls.
Nothing makes me more angry than prostitution being illegal but rapists not being punished in this country

and no, just because it's legalized does not mean every Jenny from the block will go out and start peddling her ass on the corner *eye roll*

It's not like they are getting payed minimum wage either for doing porn. Yes, there will never be another Jenna Jameson who made 7-8 figures. That said porn being legal is still better than the alternative.

    YES!!!!!

It would create many jobs, not just for the workers (people who run brothels are running businesses)

The only real con is workers will make less (see New Zealand & Australia.)

Oh. Let me go back, if I'm understanding the difference between decriminalization and legal I think it should be decriminalized. Being legal I'm not so sure yet.

I've noticed sugar daddies are territorial about SBs (even if they fuck other women) so I think there's still a niche for the Sugar Baby. Her appeal is that she is exclusive....or seems to be for the length of the arrangement.

See Canada. That's really all you need to know. You think it's bad now. Legalization will make things worse. The only good thing I can see coming out of it would be mandatory STD screening.
