if I travel dance to a different state, how would I file my taxes for that?
It would only be for 2 weeks so it would seem a little excessive if it involved filing in a different state.

It does vary from state to state if they impose a tax on "de minimis" income. However, each state does, under federal law, have the right to impose a tax on the first dollar of income you earn there. Take the example of an NFL player. He does have to file tax returns in every state where he plays. Same with actors. Do a Broadway show for a month, and you have to pay New York taxes even if you don't live there. Work on a movie in North Carolina, file a tax return there too. Go home to Colorado for 181 days, or have your principal residence there no matter how many nights you sleep elsewhere, file a return with Colorado. The good news is a few states don't have an income tax. So, the NY Giants accountants look forward to playing the Cowboys in Arlington, saves them a bunch of return filings and their clients some serious money.
How to file? Each state that has an income tax has a "non-resident" tax return. You file that with each state where you earn money. No real effect on your federal tax return, except you will have more state and local taxes to deduct if you itemize.
