I keep hearing people say to newer dancers that they'll lose weight or tone up after dancing for a bit. I didn't notice any significant changes in my body when I started dancing but I wonder if any of you actually dropped a bit of weight from dancing. I'm sure due to dancing and just not really feeling like getting changed out to go get some food can effect ones weight as well as pressure to have a knock out body

I didn't lose any weight (was thin to begin with though) but I did gain A LOT of muscle mass, especially in my ass!

I think it depends on a lot of things. I don't do pole, so I didn't tone up, but one of my girlfriends got HELLA firm over the past year. Me personally, I drank a lot more and actually gained weight, it blows. Between the alcohol, club food, weird hours, it's hard to stay in shape. I notice the weeks I take off, I always lose at least a pound or two of bloat, since I don't drink heavily on my days off.

Telling a new dancer they'll lose weight dancing is like telling a pauper they'll win the lottery just by buying a ticket.

Some girls lose weight. Some girls don't change. And some girls gain weight- actually see this last one a lot. The food choices late at night tend to be high calorie, on top of having drinks bought for you all shift. Even though dancing can burn a lot of calories (although this depends on your club and how much energy you put in to stage etc) you can always out-eat any activity.

I agree. Yesterday I had 3 salads; one with vinaigrette, and two with vinegar. There were eggs (two whole eggs) and feta cheese *like 2 tbspoons*, bacon (tablespoon), little roast beef (3 tablespoons), spinach, tomatoes, yellow peppers, so I total that to around 1000 calories, no more than 1400 calories. I'll be safe, 1800 calories. I also ran 4 miles that same morning; so 1400 calories. So I thought I was coming out ahead....

No gain 6 lbs of water weight! I just ran 500 calories this morning (so we're down to 1000 calories for yesterday), trying to get myself right. Only pure vinegar or yellow mustard for now on, and only egg whites at least until I get to my goal weight.

I have to go to the gym during lunch too, cause I am going to be busy tonight! This sucks.

Definitely. However if you drink at work that will sneak up on you calorie wise. Be aware

IF you stay away from ordering fast food and bring healthy lunches, don't drink alcohol, be sure and get plenty of sleep, and really work it onstage then yes. The club is like anywhere else..calories in less than calories out.
I was super skinny when I started but I toned up a lot cause I practiced the pole and had no appetite while at work.

In my first two months of dancing, the scale said I lost 12 lbs. But I gained TONS of muscle, so I actually lost a lot more than 12lbs of fat. This is working 8 hour shifts 3x week with no pole and no alcohol.

This can be a topic of debate, but I lost weight. That said, dancing is not a magic bullet. If you work too much, or have a hectic schedule, eat crap food and junk at the clubs, don't sleep well and drink, you will probably not lose weight. However, if you have gone from a sedentary job with relatively good eating habits to dancing, you will lose weight. And for me, working as a stripper further motivated me to be fit, because this is a looks based business and I want my body to look as good as possible. Therefore, I started eating better, making sure I rested, etc.

I use to be super skinny but I gain tone and muscle. Do to pole work and eating right. I look better then ever! All depends

I dont know if I actually lost weight, but I did lose inches. I took tonalin cla and it definitely made me smaller. I had to take in 2 inches on my schoolgirl skirt, because it started falling off my hips! I weigh more than I look. It's weird...I can fit into my old clothes (from when I was 25) but I'm 43 now and a good 15 lbs heavier. Maybe muscle mass? Idk...

I've gained weight but I wanted to get curvier. I haven't been eating very great the last year or working out so no dancing alone wasn't enough of a workout for me. Now I actually want to lose weight again so I'm back to eating healthier, not getting takeout as much, not drinking liquor, and I'm gonna get another gym membership.

It depends on your body and your eating habits. I used to be very active in the gym and just in life in general so even though I work 5 days a week it isn't enough to make a difference for me. I need to workout at a gym too to make a difference in my body.

Also, switching to days has helped me be healthier. When I work at night I would try not to eat much during the day before work and then after I'm off end up binging on junk food. Plus I end up drinking more on nightshifts. Now I work days I eat a healthy breakfast, I might snack a little during my shift but not much, and then I get home and make a healthy dinner. And my sleeping habits are much better which makes a difference.

I actually have the first time around because I was not used to the physical activity (doing dances, actively learning polework) and sometimes it would be busy in the club so I'd forget about eating during the shift and try to make some extra money.

I was only about 105 lbs when I started dancing so I didn't need to lose weight and didn't lose any. I did tone up, in fact gained muscle. The club I started at had poles that were like pillars. They were so big almost all the girls who danced there couldn't climb them but I taught myself, it just required way more body strength than regular poles so I got super strong.

Stripping tends to be good cardio though.

Ha, I gained weight because I could now afford to only have to work once a week and go out to nice restraunts twice a day instead of cooking healthy at home.

^ haha. Yes, this is absolutely a temptation to deal with.

I got a lot more toned when I danced consistently for sure but it took a lot of work ( drinking mostly fake drinks was huge , packing food often ect.)

I definitely miss my days of getting to eat like an althelete !

I definitely toned up, but I didn't get super hot or drop pounds until I went to the gym consistently. When I stopped dancing full time, I gained a little back, but was able to fix that with diet changes.

Also I know I've said this before, but dancing is super awesome at keeping your body in check. You don't notice weight gain in a vanilla job as much as weight gain when you dance. I'm forever grateful I continued dancing even after I went back to school because it has kept me from letting myself go completely.

I didn't lose weight but when I was lifting at the gym (something women should do more btw) I felt that my legs were getting stronger without changing my regular exercise routine.

I'm really petite, like .... 95lbs 5'3 petite lol. If I lost anymore weight I would look like a prepubescent boy.
ANYWAYS, since I've started dancing 3 weeks ago I've noticed I've gotten a lot leaner and my muscles are more defined in my stomach/arms.
Also my calves are on fleek.
My ass has also gotten a lot nicer which I'm super happy about!

I lost a little weight when I first started dancing. Dancing alone isn't going to give you a great body; it's not a shortcut. A lot of girls overestimate how many calories dancing burns. If you're working odd hours and not getting enough sleep, eating crap, drinking alcohol all night, etc., it's going to show on your waistline eventually. Eating a healthy diet with minimal processed foods and exercising regularly is the best way to get a hot body. Pole dancing can be great to build muscle tone, but it takes time and you have to be consistent.

    It's muscle.

I'm heavy for my height but really don't look it.
