Default Give Me a Business Idea

Edited to say; I'm not looking for some crazy secret idea you've had! I'm interested in brainstorming together. Besides most people in business will tell you "ideas are a dime a dozen; it's the implementation that matters." I have a chance to start a business, not necessarily a brick and mortar type but more of a shark tank style business where I'm hoping it could take off in a couple of years. I'm married to someone who is very gainfully employed and is supportive of my idea and can supply seed money for it. Our credit score is great and we will have no trouble getting loans etc. So smart people; what business would you start if you were me? if it helps at all I'm a very creative type and not into things that are focused on money, insurance taxes meaning I don't want to start an accounting firm or an insurance agency. Think more along the lines of creating a brand like spanx. Again I'm just looking for brainstorming, I've been on this board forever ( before as a dancer) and had to change my user name .

You mentioned Shark Tank, I would watch that show again and write down possible ideas, what the "sharks" are saying and what problems they encounter. It can be a great inspiration and could spark some new ideas

It really doesn't work like that. IME successful business owners first become good at something and THEN try to monetize it. Most innovative ideas come from people who have experience in a particular product line or service. This experience teaches them how to sell the product or service and where innovation and competitive advantages may be achieved.

So my thoughts fwiw are this: find something you like doing and then become really good at it. Then, over time, ways to capitalize on it will become more apparent.

I would say avoid borrowing against your personal credit at all costs. Let the business acquire its own debt. Also, it is hard for us to give you ideas of you do not know what you want to do. What are you good at or interested in? It seems like you want to develop a product, but sometimes service type businesses are much easier to start

I created my business around my skill sets, passions, and lifestyle needs. so it lead me into affiliate marketing, and building my own personal brand. which also leads into becoming an author, speakers, hosting masterminds and creating a digital business.

The over cost is low and the income potential is high and with my experience of being an online performer for over 10 years it just makes sense.

I'll share some of my random thoughts, but it really depends on your interests.

Buy some apartments. It could be a small house that has been subdivided or a bigger one. Do your due diligence and consider what will need to be done in the next several years. In the beginning all the money should go back into the investment even if it's just going into the savings account in case things come up. Once the savings account is big enough and things are paid off repeat the process. This could also work for leasing houses. Once there's enough that a manager is needed you could find a friend or family member that you trust and train them up as a manager.

Another idea that I love is to refurbish a house with a wild theme. Hidden rooms, steampunk, under the sea mermaid, etc. and rent them as vacation homes. You have to design and make the house look like the fantasy dream which can be an investment of time and money, especially if you aren't doing it to your own house on your own, but I think it's fun. My hubby and I are planning this for our house once all base repairs are done.

Buy something and fix it for a profit. If you're technically inclined this is great. You can buy a lot of broken projectors on ebay and repair them and send them on their way. As you get better you get the more expensive ones, fix them and sell for a hell of a profit. There are all kinds of things you can do this with. Computers, TVs, projectors, watches, and just about anything else broken. Oh classic cars. You can find some serious deals on craigslist. You have to compare the cost of replacing everything to the price the classic can be sold at. Again a lot of work, but I've discovered that working on cars is kind of like meditating.

Do not try breeding. If you want to make money off that you have to go with expensive animals and you have to treat them right and it takes one unhealthy one to make a lot of vet bills. Breeding is best as a hobby, not a money maker.

Buy a business that is already established. I have relatives with an embroidery business and that one doesn't get hit hard even when the rest of the economy is in the shit hole. Everyone needs to outfit their employees.

Honestly if all you are trying for is earning money I think that camming and making clips is your best bet. No cap on your earnings and the community is friendly. Not taking shit also won't get you a bad name. You could invest in trying a new aspect of camming.

I love everything you said! Thank you for your thorough and thoughtful reply! Sigh I wish I could still do stripping and camming but as a doctor's wife that shit won't fly lol! Im actually not concerned with money at this point ( I will be in the future) I just want to find a business idea I'm passionate about. You sound very experienced, I like the creativity of the house idea, I have my real estate license so I could probably do it easily. Apartments are a great idea for passive income in the future, you're so right.

@ Gia2608 thank you for the financial advice, I'm having trouble thinking of a service type business that's creative enough not to bore me or one that doesn't require me to be at a brick and mortar all day ( I have a baby that I'd rather be with) .

To Rick Dugan and everyone; the weirdest thing I'm sorta good at is giving dating advice, I'm told that I have a strong voice that is influential and that I should be a motivational speaker. But I really haven't accomplished enough to be a motivational speaker so I don't know how I could monetize the dating stuff. A dating website is out for me as I have heavily researched them and they just aren't as profitable as I thought.

Easiest? Cleaning business. (Legit, not "sexy" topless cleaning.) Get license/bond. Be able to write off your vehicle.

An ex-friend of mine has been doing this since she quit dancing & she's excelled. It's not stripper money but she built up something & it's solid. In time you can just manage the jobs & have a few employees.

Even better is HAZMAT cleanup. Costs more to start up but you can have more jobs than you can handle if you work in a large metropolitan area. The average HAZMAT worker who actually goes on site & does the work can make anywhere from $17-$25 dollars an hour pre-tax. Only real downside is looking at sad stuff, gross stuff & occasionally being exposed to hazardous chemicals. If you can handle a medical lab job & some heavy lifting you can be hired & trained very quickly.

As a business owner with some experience and miles of pavement under my feet from actual door knocking and meeting hundreds of people face to face I would recommend starting a cleaning business. And if you would like to create a brand with it you can later on franchise the business like Jani-King.

In the 2000s to be a successful business owner your product either needs to be highly desirable like Nike, or it needs to be a vital service like sanitations. Everything else is sinking or has already gone out of business because people don't have the discretionary income due to their wages not keeping up with the cost of living and/or business can't compete with imported goods made in China.

I would also ditch any idea to open a brick and mortar store. Work out of your home, garage or storage shed before anything.

Since the internet and lack of young people with money to spend the malls, strip malls, and mom and pop stores around this country have been going under and are dying a slow death. It isn't the 1980s. We're seeing a whole breakdown of traditional retail right before our eyes and it's really sad.

Same here.. I haven't been to the mall to seriously shop since the late 90s. Back in the 1990s everybody went to the mall. It was a central social gathering spot and for many it was their first place of employment.

I looked that up a while back and some of the top youtubers make some serious coin. The downside is that all the top youtubers content is just humor and silly entertainment. Nothing informative or educational and I just found it sad that a grown adult can film themselves behaving like kids that will get 1 million views but a pure educational channel will go unnoticed.

I'm just saying that's what I found in common with the sucessful YouTube accounts but by all means if a person is really funny and they want to work in the entertainment business go for it.

In the spirit of sharing, I'll let go of one of my secrets- because my best friend's brother already works in the occupation, I've considered running a funeral home. HOWEVER that kind of lifestyle is only for responsible & conscientious people. NO dressing up like Abbie from "NCIS" letting your freak flag fly.

If you have a deeply giving personality & have a small team of people willing to be on call 24/7, you can run a funeral home. Most of the workers make what would be considered average wages per year.

The up side to this kind of business is, people will not stop dying. One of the key sayings in the biz is "Death Never Sleeps." Thankfully your average customer has planned for their funeral expenses, or has family that will pay. Most successful funeral homes are centered around following strict regulations and providing excellent customer service.

The topic of funeral homes comes up a lot on reddit. Feel free to search the site & learn about it. I wish we all appreciated these people more. We only think of them on the worst days of our lives & never consider how important they are.

I definitely have the most success selling things I like and understand because I know exactly who I'm marketing to. I would rather sell products I like than widgets but everyone is different. I do think passion is an important element to running a successful business especially if you're the creative type. So you need to ask yourself what do you like, what do you know, and is there a demand for it?

I love your optimism! I have entertained promoting anything I was to enter into first on YouTube as a sort of "test" to the market.

Yes this is one of the things I have been thinking of but I'm not sure if I would be better off coaching men rather than women. Also I wonder if I could ever make it become passive income, that's me jumping ahead.

Wow how crazy of an idea! If you are the type of person that can do this with compassion and grace; you should go for it! I feel like death would freak me out too much, I wonder though if it would become very mundane working with it day in and day out. This is definitely thinking outside of the box at its best! Thank you for sharing.

How seriously have you considered this?
