    Default Relieving pain holistically/naturally

Anyone know of a way to relieve pain naturally? Like if you had a fractured ankle and didn't want to take addictive pain meds?

    Thanks so much!!!!

Well it's for someone who hasn't touched any drugs/alcohol for 8 months and he's committed to staying sober. He won't take his pain meds since they are addicrive. He just wants to stay away from drugs.

Me? I'd use med MJ but he won't even touch that..

Aaah that makes sense. How about meditation? I googled "meditation for pain" and it looks like there's lots of free guided meditations to be had. I've never tried it myself, but I believe in mind power.

Arnica, it's available as a supplemental cap (it's an herb) & also it's used as an ingredient in a rub.
Ice it, & kept elevated as much as possible

Yes, inducing deep relaxation and/or pleasure should have a natural pain relieving effect, as will anti-inflammatory foods/herbs...To the above sugestions I will add yoga(gentle floor-based poses if injured); foods such as oily fish, beets, greens, turmeric etc; and orgasms.

Acupunture could help too, both at the site of pain and at other points in the body.

All great suggestions. He's been wanting to try yoga, and once he is feeling better and healing I'm going to suggest that he try yoga for exercise. He fractured his ankle while running :-( . This is the second time he has injured the same ankle while running. Think it's time to switch routines to something...gentler..

He's been revamping his diet lately in an effort to get in better shape. He's been eating all those foods that you've mentioned and a lot more vegetables and Whole Foods, etcetera. I suggested that he do acupuncture too, so hopefully he'll listen to that. Thanks ladies so much

Topical arnica works wonders for pain and healing! Also mindfulness meditation, where you focus on only the present. There's supposed to be some kind of personal hypnosis you can do to trick your mind into ignoring pain but I can't remember what it's called.

You guys, you should see him right now. He's been so positive through this, and strong. So I told him his attitude would work wonders for his healing. Which it will.

Ladies, thanks so much. This has all been really helpful.

This would help. If you have any rubber band it will work the same.
Shreded ginger will help. shred ginger like a spoon of it and gulp it down.
    Cryo therapy would help.
    Sauna would help.
soak bodyin epsom salt nd rub some warming balm.
I would not ignore the pain, it is an indication of inflammation.
    God liver oil also helps.
ps:I saw you wrote about that he injured while running. he really should try that rubber tape. But better look up for a structural integration therapy or manual therapy.

My ankle was broken and ended up having to get a metal plate in there - if you start experiencing muscle tension/pain etc I strongly recommended finding a good acupuncturist. Worked amazingly for me.

Dry sauna and ice showers help me for muscle pain.. not sure about fractures.

That must've been awful. We are hoping he doesn't have to go through with that, but at least we know how to help him if he does. I thought of acupuncture and told him that it might be a good way for him to go. Thanks PP!

Capsaicin can be good for pain, but I am not sure if it works for a fracture.

MSM is a supplement that does wonders for pain and healing. Check out the reviews on amazon! Lots of old people take it to relieve their pain from arthritis.
Do your future self a favor and work hard now.

I actually use this and it works. It's taken a few weeks of using it to notice. It can't hurt, but it helps with aches after a joint has healed.

These all sound like good suggestions.

I'll second the cold/heat therapy for pain. One time I felt this weird sensation in my arm and hand. Like part of my hand was numb and when I extended my arm I felt pain. I assumed it came from maybe pulling a muscle doing pole tricks. I didn't have insurance at the time and was not trying to spend beaucoup dollars on a doctor. Soooo I stretched and used sauna therapy. Thankfully overtime it got better.

Also someone mentioned inflammation which I think also can be reduced with diet. Garlic is my go to but I believe ginger and turmeric can also aid in reducing inflammation.

Arnica gel has been mentioned and although I've never tried it perhaps it's worth a shot. So is acupuncture or even a visit to a podiatrist.

Also in the future maybe he will consider running on surfaces that absorb shock and less harsh on his body. Running is hard on the body. Make sure to use correct form as well.

Arnica has been helping him out a lot. He's feeling a lot better. I also found out that eating pineapple helps with swelling. Now he can get around without crutches. I told him not to rush the process though. Thanks, ladies.

Like 10 years ago when I was in a gnarly car wreck my chiropractor told me to use biofreeze on my back. it was like $12 for a bottle and worked wonders. Tiger balm works great too but has an extremely pungent odor
