    Default Performance Anxiety

Every now and then I hit an ugly funk on account of performance anxiety. I'm relatively new to stripping, and my moves aren't top notch or really even middle notch yet, and sometimes I get caught up on it when I'm on stage, and it affects my whole hustle. Like I just had a stage turn where I felt sooo self-conscious because of one failed move, and I ruined the rest of my set with anxiety over it (though I was trying to exert mind over matter and keep a positive attitude), and I knew I didn't look good to anyone on the floor considering a lap dance after that vibe and stunted performance. How do you all deal with bouts of performance anxiety when you're working?

You are psyching yourself out. If you do not work at an urban club where pole tricks, booty clapping and twerking are the norm or you do not work at a club where all the other dancers are nasty at pole tricks- your stage performance does NOT matter. Do not push yourself to do things you can not. Just walk around sexily or skip stage all together if you can pay the DJ to keep you off. One of my really good friends used to consistently make $700 a night (not too long ago) and either skipped stage or just went up there walking in circles around the pole and bending over.

I hear you! After a 10 year break I was knee-knocking nervous! I just have to pump myself up, I know have the skills I'm just rusty. And when you get rejected in a weird/awful way it shakes you. I even got stuck on stage naked when my bracelet got caught on my boot! Awkward!
Shit happens! Keep going! Stick to a loose script, give yourself a chance to succeed with each customer, and each night. Fake it till you make it etc : P

Think of stage as your bedroom, so only what makes you feel sexy. You will look more confident and develop your style. Not every customer wants the same thing, don't push yourself into someone's style. Ex I can't twerk, its never gonna happen; but I can make my ass look good in other ways.
After stage go through the crowd slow, thank those who tipped you, get those dances!

It happens. I've been dancing years and am pretty good on stage (when I actually try) but will randomly have a set that I just feel kind of "off" or awkward. Sometimes I get a little anxiety at a new club if the stage is packed. Keep in mind most these guys care more about seeing your boobs than if you can clap your booty in a handstand lol. If you do something big like literally fall, laugh it off or crack a joke even if you're wishing there was a trap door in the stage for you to escape out. It makes you look confident and carefree. Keep your mind on the money, one little mess up isn't worth trashing your whole night. My attitude about things like that, "fuck them, they don't know me, I'll probably never see them again anyway."

Girl, on stage I've had shoes break, fishnets rip, I think I've fallen once, probably stumbled a few times...I just say fuck it and keep going. Pay no attention to it and just keep going. It's really not a big deal and it's not going to really affect sales unless you let it overtake your thinking. Just yesterday I felt like I could barely move, like my body wouldn't do what it wanted to do, but did it matter? No. I had a pretty good dayshift without trying because I just knew I was going to make money somehow, and I did. Don't take stage all too seriously, and try and relax and have fun. Everyone loves spending money on a fun gal.

Yeah, I know it's just a mental thing, I'm just really susceptible to it now and then and I want to develop myself to not be. I was actually doing a trick I've landed countless times before (I never try anything new on stage, thanks to said performance anxiety) and just didn't nail it. I aim to sell rooms and never be on stage, cause that's where the money's at, but I find I sell those things way more easily after a fun set.

Thanks to all of you for your tips! I found today that if I think of all the positive things that have been happening to me since starting dancing, I shake off the screw-ups much better. I tell myself that they aren't part of my arc. I'm going onwards and upwards.

Girl I've only danced at private parties or with clients and just now getting into my first club very soon >_<)
I understand where your coming from... although I have danced, the club environment and the famous stage is something that makes me extremely nervous and excited but more nervous about lol..

I haven't been there yet so I can't offer a word of advice on that but I can offer a piece of advice from experience:

    1. Confidence is key
    2. Do what you know your body is capable of
    3. If you happen to mess up on a move you thought your body was capable of work with it and yes at times (as we are humans) you get the deer in a headlight look just breathe and keep the show moving because your wallet does not care on how many times you messed up throughout the night but much more about the dollar amount

    Best of luck,
    Xo

I used to get anxiety too but now I don't care really if anyone tips me or not. If they do great, if not whatever.
Just dance to the music you like and do whatever. I will sometimes do a pole trick but since my club is not stage centered I don't really bust my ass anymore. Posing, a little twerking and floor work and such is all I do 90% of the time.
I'm a fountain of blood in the shape of a girl.

Omg I hot the WORST performance anxiety last night. I'm a ten year veteran and my stage sets are usually just me having fun with a few pole tricks thrown in. I generally do well. But last night i had an awkward set where I randomly forgot everything I know about pole and floor work. Then a group came in to sit in the VIP section and i had a panic attack. I ended up having to leave!!! Wtf!??
So shit happens to us all, I'm glad to know from this thread that I'm not the only one. Hoping to shake it off by tomorrow, I'm still feeling pretty shitty today.
