So I've been dancing for a few weeks now and even though I never had that "easy money right? just look pretty and guys will throw money at you lol!" attitude, I've definitely been surprised by a few things and found it kind of funny so I thought I'd share - feel free to add your own...
-When you show up is so different from a vanilla job: after a few days of messaging the manager like "Is it ok if I come on Wed? At what time? Can I come again on Fri? What if I have to cancel?" she just went "You know, you don't really have to do that. Just show up or don't."
-Especially if you work in a small club or in a small city, a lot of the night may just be spent waiting. Sometimes us dancers just chill in the bar area on our phones for 3 hours before any customers show up. It's not an instant party like in music videos, ever, and building the atmosphere takes a lot of work from the dancers.
-The mentality "even if they're the only guys in the club, walk away after a while if they clearly aren't here to spend." During my second night, when it was really quiet and I was just hanging out with some guys, another dancer took me to the bathroom and said "If they're not buying or tipping, don't sit with them. Don't let them think they can get your company for free. Walk away and in ten minutes they'll come crawling after you ready to spend." And they did.
-You thought guys would be in awe by all that you're willing to do, but you'll actually say "no, I don't do that" more in a night than you ever have before in your life.
-Sometimes it's really chill, sometimes it's a full blown workout. One night a guy bought VIP just to chat; another night a guy bought over 2 hours, and literally wanted me to dance on him for the whole time.
-You thought a stripper in public would be recognisable from stylish and expensive clothes and perfect makeup, but now you know better: they're the ones looking like a bag of smashed assholes in pyjamas at 4pm after having just woken up, hoarding energy drinks and baby wipes at the grocery store
Also, at my club most of the money comes from convincing guys to buy expensive champagne and sharing it with you, so another thing I might add for clubs like that is you never thought you would, but you'll find yourself sneaking to the bar and asking them to fill your 4th piccolo bottle with diet coke instead.
