Dizzy Thinking of becoming a dancer

I'm 18, and I'm thinking about dancing in a hip hop-based club in Dallas. I've had experience in hip hop dance, but never did any of that twerking stuff since I dance at a studio, and we do more like…dance lol. I've also done contemporary, pom, and jazz dance, will that help? I've tweaked stupidly for fun, but I really don't know much about it. Will that experience help me in getting a job as a dancer? Are there any good resources to learn twerking before I audition?

I also have have an issue with my appearance. I may be an adult, but I look much younger because I'm short (5'0") and have a small frame. I'm not fat (actually underweight, 91 lb), but I'm constantly working at losing more weight to look more desirable. But, I also have really small boobs (almost below an A cup) and barely any butt. So, I'm very afraid of getting rejected solely on my appearance. I know these forums say that there's a market for every look, but not sure if any club wants an Asian girl that basically looks like a Japanese ghost.

I'll have to move away to Baltimore in the fall, too. Is it easy to leave and move as a dancer? Is there a difference in dancing in Baltimore to Dallas, also? I may want to get a job as a dancer there, too, if I enjoy it here in Dallas.

Just an advice : your goal shouldn't be "losing more weight to look more desirable" but "working to gain muscles and be fit". Muscles are heavier than fat so you will gain weight but your body will be more defined and tonic. Specially if you're already underweight !

Thank you! I'm actually working on both weight loss and working out to be more toned.
    So, I think that'll be best. ✌️

This doesn't make sense to me. You say you're worried about getting rejected because you look like a ghost and barely have any butt etc, yet you constantly try to lose more weight so you'll look more desirable? If you're worried you might be too skinny to be desirable, how do you think getting even skinnier would solve that problem?

If you want to last in this industry and have any energy to hustle you should focus on getting fit and healthy. If you're underweight just work on your shape, get muscles that give you a good figure, do not try to lose more weight.
I know. But, I've always found myself to look better when I'm thinner, especially in tight fitting or revealing clothing. Even if I have little butt or boobs at my lowest weight, I find that I have the cute skinny girl look. Like a model, y'dig? Being like I'm right now, not fat but not really skinny, just makes me look like a kid.

And, I do have a lot of energy. I work out an hour every day and have dance practices 4 days a week.

Exotic dancing is not like normal dancing. It's more like live soft porn. He'll, I've even worked at a club where we could do shows with dildos.

Exotic dancing will take away your innocence and waste yout talent.

But there is more money to be made as a stripper. But at the samr time you might make less than minimum wage. Plus you won't have a good work history. And many people believe that strippers actually fuck their clients (they are usually not wrong).

I wish I had someone to tell me not to make such a big mistake with my life. A lot of dancers are so delusional. They think they will leave this career with a fully paid house and a white-collar job just waiting there for them. They think they'll lead a lovely quiet suburbian life after it is all over. But you know What? They are going to grow old with lots of sun-discoloration and wrinkly cleavages that make the saggy silicone boobs give their life story away.

Most dancers get promoted to "escorting". A decade of heavy drug and alcohol abuse eventually makes them qualified for only that and maybe other adult work. Many of us work so many odd hours trying to build castles on clouds that we don't even see our families or kids if we have. Eventually they become so estranged. Some even end up settling in foreign land away from friends and family having only a boyfriend or husband to rely on. And eventeventually they quit without notice because one day they just feel sick and tired of all the stress and heartache that comes with this job. And unfortunately many web pages are filled with tales of how glamorous this industry is.

No one tells you that unless you find a nice husband or job and quit this business you are going to end up being a prostitute.

And no you won't be able to buy a house. Banks don't give loans to people who don't have a guaranteed future income. And you could buy a house cash but you'll never be able to save so much money when you have to spend so much just to keep your little "business" afloat by paying fees and fines and cabs and month-to-month premium rentals because you don't have a secure job to qualify for a lease which might be cheaper. All of this will alienate you from society and push you deeper and deeper into a bottomless pit of uncertainty.

Rather find a job as a ballroom dance Instructor. You won't as much money but you might get steady pay slips which you can use to rent your own place and get a car loan or get a homeloan which you can use to get a loan against it's equity to later start a business or whatever. This is the real way you build wealth.

With Money. Easy come = easy go.

I've worked with a few girls that had formal dance backgrounds. They seemed to pick up and pole tricks and floorwork moves more easily than other newbies and have better body awareness/control. As far as actually helping you land the job....strip club managers don't care if you were a ballerina or a scientist, they care about how you look naked.

I can't personally speak on Dallas but in general, urban (hip-hop) clubs favor thick/curvy girls. With your body type you may be better off money wise at a different type of club.

    Good luck!

    Squats and a boob job.
Go to an upscale gown club like Men's club or the Lodge. They like spinners.

Yes, I know this. I'm OK with something completely different from studio dancing.

I don't plan on staying an exotic dancer for my whole life. I'm doing pre-med and research at an elite university here in the US, so I have a plan that's likely to work out in the long run.

Then you don't need to dance. ^ I don't suggest it with that kind of future. Stay focused on your goals. Stripping can and will take over your life. Good luck!

I feel like you've gotten a few way too negative responses in here. Especially the girl that has "This industry ruined my life" at the bottom of her profile... I can tell you it gave me a fantastic life through my 20's. It can fuck you up IF you let it, but then again so can life in general. That's up to you.

I've taken more vacations then probably (seriously) 95% of the country... (on my own, not with a sugar daddy, and no I never slept with anyone for money. You definitely don't need to). I learned how to really make money through learning about psychology, so I could bank, and travel my ass off... Don't listen to the negativity. The only way to know if you'll like it, is to try it.

And don't be self conscious about your body. If you are, men can sense it. Confidence is attractive. It's perfect that you're tiny. OWN that... being unique can give you quite an advantage

I would say go for it. I would also say, if you're not used to wearing crazy heels... get some with a thick heel. You don't need to be walking around on a needle point heel. My first ones that I wore for years had a thick heel, I felt very comfortable (and stable) walking in them, and they were really cute. Wish I had a picture.

Out of curiosity... why would you start at a hip hop club? Why not one a little more classy? (I'm not judging, I'm just asking.) I don't know you or your personality, so I definitely don't know that I would be right about this, but I think you might have a better experience if you started somewhere that was more labeled a "gentleman's club". If you don't know how to twerk (neither do I, and I did this for 8 years), then why not start somewhere it doesn't matter?

Good luck! Be positive, and own your appearance! I can't see you, but I'm sure you're beautiful.

Hip hop is the type of dance I've focused on with my studio dancing. A place more classy is definitely an option, too. Knowing I'll have a better experience there will be so worth it.

I can wear heels decently well. Like I said, I'm short (5'0"), so they're the only way I can get taller now. For dancing, I think a thicker heel is better since I only dance barefoot, in jazz shoes, or in converse.

Thanks for your response and encouragement!

Anyways, all men have tons of different tastes...I agree with the other women men love thin women but it's 2017 "thin" "skinny" means you're healthy and happy with your body....with that being said stick thin isn't really the style anymore...definitely look into weight training and INCREASING your caloric intake to help your body fill out...but ultimately whatever you feel most comfortable to talk the talk then stick with that. No one can tell you your wrong about your body.

Let's be realistic.... Civilian "thick" is strip club "fat". Hiring managers are the gatekeepers and unless you are working at an urban or bbw club, the thinner the better. I've been fatlisted several times and I can tell you I have an easier time getting hired at 115 than 135.

Really Lucinda?? Fuck off. This may get me pointed or temporarily banned but wow we come here to escape the nasty slut shaming stereotypes of close minded jealous civilians and talking about downsides to,this industry is one thing but insulting dancers and spreading negative condescending bullshit ON A SUPPORT SITE is another ball game. I thought it was pretty obvious "Lucida" is a bitter customer pretending to be a dancer so he can post depressing things about dancing like that lol. I'm surprised he hasn't been banned yet.

Anyway OP it sounds like you would do alot better in upscale clubs and not the urban ones. It doesn't matter if you've taken hip-hop dance classes because all they're doing is twerking and pole tricks at the urban clubs, and the upscale ones girls don't even dance. & Petite isn't really the preferred body type at urban clubs. But thats not a big deal since you can make just as much if not more at the nicer clubs without even knowing how to dance.

Do not, I repeat, do not go to an urban/hip hop club. Even though you focused on hip hop in the studio, urban clubs are a whole nother ballgame and slim girls have a very hard time making money there.

Get yourself to an upscale club or at least a mixed club and take all the money from white dude's with tiny asian girl fetishes.

Also please read through this site because I don't mean for this to come across as rude, but you don't sound ready yet to start dancing. Try going to a club first as a customer. And after reading this site hopefully you'll have a better picture of what it's like to work in a club.

My best friend when I first started dancing was a tiny asian spinner going to a prestigious university and she was a biochem major. She cleaned up in upscale clubs.
