Default Bartending/Cocktail Waitressing in the Strip Club?

Hey everyone- I'm new and hope I'm not posting in the wrong place, but here seemed good enough. Mods feel free to move if I'm wrong.

Anyway, I will leave a little bio about what I'm going through and hope that I can get some advice from you girls on here about going forward with career options, etc.

I'm a married stay at home mom to a 1 year old child. We live paycheck to paycheck, and almost worse than that, I'm bored stiff in life right now but not yet ready for another child. The restlessness/boredom is making me depressed/anxious and my home life is definitely suffering due to it. I had an opportunity to work in a strip club when I was 21 but I turned it down due to "feeling bad about it". Now, I'm almost 27 years old and at a place in life where I really don't care, in fact, it excites me. I don't want to dance at this point due to some jealousy issues with my dh and me being 5 -10 pounds overweight, plus weird looking tummy from pregnancy, so I'd rather not show that off right now. I did just start a strict diet/workout regimen last week and have been sticking to it pretty well. I'm definitely considered conventionally attractive, and have done some freelance modeling, despite being a few pounds overweight and in need of toning. I do have a proportional, hourglass shape with nice boobs/butt so that's a plus, I guess.

I bartended at a dive bar in college and it remains one of my favorite work experiences ever and I've kept wanting to break back into bartending after moving to the big city, but I have had little luck. I am at the point where I've been obsessed with watching YT vids and anything about bartending. I've almost gotten hired at a few "regular" bars in my area, but something always fell through with them hiring someone else, but liking me enough to give me a courtesy rejection call and letting me know that they're keeping my resume on file. Ugh- so frustrating. Due to childcare constraints, I need a job with evening-only hours and some more flexibility about my lack of formal experience, so I've looked up gentlemen's clubs in my area, wrote down addresses and phone numbers and am considering just walking in and asking for a hiring manager.

However, my insecurities are that I am in a major city and have been looking at upscale places because I'm well educated and feel like I can be of interest to those types of men, if only long enough to flirt a bit and make their drink. But, I am not sure if I'm pretty enough or in shape enough to work there even as a staff member. I also wonder what if they only hire girls in their early 20s? I am pretty sure that I can get away with saying I'm 23, but when it comes time to give them my license and SS, that's obviously not gonna fly. In addition, I have no idea how much experience they actually do want in terms of bartending or waitressing.

So I guess what I'm asking is if anyone here can give me advice on what to expect when I walk in the door of an upscale, big city gentleman's club and how best to prepare myself to impress them enough to get hired. I also wouldn't mind going to a club in the outskirts of the city, but it'd be a bit off the beaten path for me and the city is better for me location-wise and probably money-wise too.

Hello, I new here too, just posted my FIRST post!
I've been researching like crazy about cocktail waitressing (I'm ready to stop dancing, at least in my area).
Not many youtube videos, when your search 'cocktail waitressing' bunch of vegas cocktail waitressing videos pop up.
So far, my best source has been google.
Previous clubs I've worked, managers usually hire within (girls that bartend +dance). Every single time I applied as a cocktail waitress, manager
immediately tries to coheres me into dancing. Like yourself, I'm trying to figure out the formula for getting hired as a COCKTAIL waitress.
I'm still dancing but it would probably be less stressful to do both.

Thanks for that. So it seems that they want to hire those they know, huh? I would think itd be easier to get a waitressing job than a dancing job? I was worried that maybe not..

That was my experience, your experience may be different.
If you walk in looking too ''good'' or too put together they want to throw you on stage, if you walk in not looking good enough, you run the rick of not scoring an interview.
Cocktail waitressing/bartending inside of a strip club has nothing to do with experience, its MORE looks and personality...personality/looks trumps experience (from what I'VE seen).

The owner of my club fired a brunette although she was proficient, personable and professional ( customer loved her ) but she wasn't BLONDE! He got rid of her because he felt a blonde bartender would generate more business.

This. Also 5-10 lbs is nothing.

Quite the opposite! A club will have far more dancers than waitresses, and since they don't have to pay the dancers (and, in fact, make more money the more dancers they have working due to house fees and potentially cuts of sales depending on how the club is structured), it's far easier and more lucrative to hire a dancer. On the other side, there can only be so many waitresses per shift, so although a club could hire most of the dancers that walk in to the club, they can only hire waitresses when there's space on a shift.

You might have an easier time getting hired as a shot girl than a waitress, especially if you don't have any recent experience. As much as your looks play in to getting hired, a lucrative club can be pickier both with dancers and wait staff because of the earning potential and client expectations, so experience can play a role. There's not much to being a shot girl beyond being able to walk around with a tray and give change, and some clubs just give you a cut of your sales rather than paying you hourly like a server, so they can be more wiling to take a chance on an unknown quantity.

Of course, it all varies a lot by club, so your best bet is to just go to the club you want to work at, asking if they're hiring any wait staff, and work your way down the list until you get hired somewhere.

OK that makes total sense then why it's easier to get a dancing job. I would definitely be open to shot girl- basically anything that lets me keep most of my clothes on is okay by me. Even though I love mixing drinks, you gotta start somewhere. My plan is to go dressed up looking as good as possible and just be firm about the fact that I'm not comfortable dancing at this time if they want to offer that. As to whether or not I ever end up dancing, who knows? Never say never but that's not my plan right now. I have short hair so I was definitely thinking a realistic looking wig would be best, so that's an investment. Funny enough, I was already thinking blonde though my natural color is light brown.

The clubs I called told me to just come in any time during their hours of business, so after 7pm. Obviously a slow night like Monday or Tuesday makes the most sense if you're hoping to get an interview. I also imagine (maybe this is stereotyping) that they deal with flaky girls and turnover a lot when it comes to waitstaff, so that may make it easier to at least get my foot in the door? Then again, if it's good money, maybe they have girls last awhile. Again - no idea on that.

With no experience you might have a hard time getting hired as a waitress in a big club. I agree with maybe trying for shot girl.. though that can be tough, since you're pushing overpriced shots to people who don't really want them.

Your age, lack of education and few extra pounds are not an issue at all. I'd be more worried about having no experience. If you really are dead set on waitressing at a top club in your city, try starting out and a dive (as a waitress) just to gain experience, then after a few months try some nicer places.
