This question is mainly directed towards any trained massage therapists on board here, but would also be interested in responses from massage recipient (customer) POV. Is use of elbows to apply pressure during a massage a good technique ? Acceptable in some circumstances ?
I ask because I recently experienced it for the first time. Although no post massage pain occurred, neither was it an entirely enjoyable experience. I'll add that this wasn't a professional setting (lying on table in spa), but in a club with a dancer who supposedly has some training as a masseuse. This was done while sitting up straight on a club high chair. When asked about it, she commented that some of my muscles are tight, and that this is effective in loosening up. I honestly couldn't tell if that truly loosened them up. I'll add that this dancer is medium/slightly largish as dancers go, but I still outweigh her by ~ 90 lbs. Over the years, I've had massages from several different dancers/club masseuse, but this elbow in my back thing is a new one on me. All massages were done with me sitting straight up. I've long regarded massage as another variety spice item in the club experience.
