    Default Living Situations

Do any of you guys have positive experience with finding a shared living situations, and living with roommates while in the industry-be it, dancing or escorting? I had a hell of a time this past year finding a decent place to live in an area I want. I have good credit, proof of income in tax forms and plenty of savings. Problem is, as soon as I say, I'm a dancer, the landlord gives the place over to someone else The competition for affordable housing has become so intense in LA, that it seems like the landlords can pick the cream of the crop, and each potential rooming situation, is a popularity contest. Anyhow, I'm seriously considering a move to nyc bc I think the earning potential should be better while I can still focus on the acting stuff. So any advice on how to find shared housing and provide proof of income without falling in the same pitfalls as here in LA?

I've had some awesome shared housing situations. Just vet people before you move in (& keep a storage unit just in case you wanna bail.)

Yeah I know landlords are the worst.

I would never be that intimate with any of my coworkers. I'm a firm believer in work boundaries. I have a separate life at work and no one needs to know my personal business

I agree with pinups4. A ballet dancer is seen as more respectable to close-minded, vanilla people than a stripper. You could say that you are a dance or yoga instructor. How would a landlord know the difference? In my experience they don't really care what you do as long as you're paying your rent on time. Some smaller apartment complexes don't bother with proof of income. Mine didn't. As far as shared living housing goes, there are websites like roommates.com and roomster. I've used them before. I've also used craigslist rooms/shared and found an elderly lady that I rented a room from for a couple months. I didn't tell her what I did for a living. She didn't ask. I paid rent on time, was nice to her when I was home, but I was only ever home to sleep. There were no issues until she rented the other room out to a druggie chick who brought too much drama. That's the thing that I don't like about roommates. You don't always know how someone is going to be until you're living with them.
