    Thumbs down Auto immune disorders

Note- I will be going to a doctor. I'm posting this because I'm at my wit's end.

It's become clear to me over the last several years that I might have a serious illness. My sister was diagnosed with lupus & my aunt has a rare autoimmune disorder. So bam, in terms of hereditary illness it would make sense.

So any of you manage lupus or fibromyalgia?

I don't have either of those but I have lived with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome for the past 12 years, which is similar to fibromyalgia. I am finally in remission and have been for the past 2 years but I have to be extremely careful because I can very easily slip back into being sick again if I do not take extremely good care of myself.

The biggest trigger for CFS (and many other autoimmune disorders) is stress. Although a combination of moving to a warmer/sunnier climate and vitamins did significantly help my symptoms, the biggest change that helped me was eliminating lifestyle stressors. For me, this meant deleting facebook and social media, not listening to the news or reading anything that caused me to feel negatively about the world, and removing all drama inducing people from my life. Meditation helps a lot, therapy helped more, but picking my friends and partners carefully helped the most. I also manage stress by planning out my daily routine with lots of padding between things so I'm not late often and I'm always ahead of schedule with school work. I REQUIRE 8-9 hours of sleep a night, so I plan my entire day around that, it is my #1 priority daily and I will not compromise it for anyone or anything, and I take about 15 different vitamins a day. If I slipped up on any 1 of those things I would easily fall sick again.

Self care is the absolute most important thing when you have a chronic illness. You have to put it above EVERYTHING else.

I can give you a list of the vitamins that helped me most if you're interested.

    I'd appreciate it.

My final confirmation for my suspicions is a case of walking pneumonia .....it's really making me sad...

edit to add- I have blood sugar issues plus other random stupid problems, partially from working so hard as a dancer. Off to the doc I go...

I've had fibro and chronic pain issues my whole life.. It's pretty exhausting to manage sometimes but just going off gluten helped tremendously. Button, could I have a copy of that list?

The most helpful vitamins I've taken:

    1. Beta Glucans. This shit is magic. People with cancer take this to help their compromised immune systems. Take 1 daily to prevent colds/flu/illness and if you're sick take 3 a day. If I'm sick I also take echinacea, goldenseal, high doses of vitamin c, and garlic.

    2. Dr. Wilson's Adrenal Rebuilder. These are actually made from the adrenal glands of horses. It contains all the proteins your body needs to heal your adrenal glands, which are the organs most effected by stress because they release cortisol (stress hormone). Another one that helped is Dr. Wilson's Super Stress Formula which also has a great combination of supplements that help support your adrenal glands and repair the damaging effects of stress. They do take a while to start seeing effects, but I took these alone for a few years and they provided enough support that I could work and have a semi-normal life again.

3.Ashwagandha - the liquid form tastes like death but this stuff is extremely powerful. It also helps with anxiety and burnout. GREAT for the thyroid and adrenals! Take the pills if you can't handle the liquid form, but the liquid is more potent & easier to absorb.

    Other helpful supplements:

Iron - I was severely anemic from being a vegetarian for many years (and not consuming lots of iron rich foods in general) but its difficult for menstruating women to get enough iron through their diets alone, so many many women are anemic, not just vegetarians. The first time I took liquid iron I slept through the night without waking for the first time in years. Since then I've encouraged several friends who were also having poor quality of sleep to get their iron levels checked and they've all seen increased energy levels and better sleep since taking iron. Its not related to chronic illnesses but it is something to check out and keep in mind.

coQ10 - often recommended on the CFS forums. I never personally benefited much from this particular vitamin but its done wonders for a friend of mine.

Omega 3 + evening primrose oil - HIGH DOSES do wonders for depression and if brain fog is a concern it will help with that too. Evening Primrose helps with absorption. Do NOT take the ones that are a combo of omega 3 and 9's- the point is to rebalance your intake so you're getting more omega 3s and less omega 9s which are in fried foods and disproportionately high in modern diets.

MSM + peppermint gel. MSM is a form of sulfur and it helps with a variety of things from joint pain to leaky gut syndrome. Its anti-inflammatory and helps the body recover from stress. I started taking it for rosacea and noticed a HUGE energy boost. I can't take it at night because it will actually keep me from sleeping. Definitely look into the benefits of this one. I take 3 a day with a peppermint oil pill because it does tend to cause gas, but with the peppermint gel there's no issue.

B vitamins - some B vitamin deficiencies, especially B12, can contribute to fatigue. Make sure your levels are good and if you take a supplement make sure its one that dissolves under your tongue.

Vitamin D - HIGH doses are great for the immune system, energy levels and depression.

Please do your research before taking any of these, and add them into your diet one a time (with a week or two in between) so you know which ones are working. I'm not a doctor, yada yada yada, results may vary, but these helped me.
Do your future self a favor and work hard now.
