Default Has anybody developed agoraphobia after so long of camming/working from home?

I mean I never used to be legit afraid to leave the house. I havent taken a day off camming since November, and I am in a tedious cycle of literally working from the moment I wake up till the moment I go to bed 7 days a week.
My husband has to fight and beg for me to leave but I am just so comfortable in my own little area with my laptop and whatever.
He wants me to either get out of the house or go see a therapist but I dont like that idea at all.

Take a look at this thread about becoming a hermit. https://www.stripperweb.com/forum/sh...social-anxiety I think what you are experiencing right now is pretty normal for someone who isolates themselves. Are you saying that you're now afraid to leave the house?

    Yes. I feel the same.

A lot of times, I hate dealing with annoying ass people, long ass lines, and just the element of unknown. I just felt "safe" at home. But since it's spring now and more hours of daylight I have to get out in nature because it helps remedy my seasonal depression.

I find going out during early morning between 6am-11am when most people are either still asleep or on their day jobs is best if you are introverted, have social anxiety, or even agoraphobia.

7 days a week since November?!?

*Just remember it's all about balance*

Also, you mention you are afraid to leave the house. Can you say specifically what it is you are afraid of?

I did. I don't know if it was because of camming but it might have been. I used to go out a lot before starting camming and even at the beginning of my "camming career" and then something hit me. I got agoraphobia, anxiety and panic attacks. I did CBT and I am ok now. Listen to your husband and get therapy before it gets worse. Good luck!

Just quickly jumping in to say I have the same issue often. My husband wants me to get help, so I'm starting Talk space. I totally understand not wanting to leave the house , esp. Just for therapy. But you aren't alone. I second what Miss P said about going out during those times, its better for sure then.

I can sooo relate to your post.
I worked like you did when I first started camming 6 years ago. It was a recipe for disaster, and I also became severely agoraphobic.
Fast forward to last October, when I became homeless, and was living outside. My biggest fear.
The blessing was that I was forced to be around lots of strangers each day, which got rid of my agoraphobia.
    Self-preservation, maybe, idk.
I didn't have internet access, and couldn't cam. All I did everyday was go to my storage, get dressed up in gorgeous clothes, jewelry, and do my makeup.
I drove around from place to place, exploring the new city I was in.
People flocked to me, and wanted to be around me, and talk to me.
I found great joy in that.
Even escorting for quick cash to get my own place was fun, because I got to visit neighborhoods, and people!e I never would.
All that to say, that since I moved into my own place, ( end of December), and returning to camming, I've turned into a complete hermit, and am yet again agorophobic.
I despise having to even go out to my mailbox, in case one of the nosy neighbors or landlord wants to talk. Ugh!
I am so bad, that I have put my phone on a permanent silence, and blocked most everyone I know from calling me.
I'm now looking at websites that deliver, so I never have to go food or toiletry shopping.
I lost my zest for getting dressed up, because I do it on cam.
I don't believe that there is anything wrong with you, or me. Or anyone else who chooses to stay home.
It's just the nature of our job that creates agoraphobia.
Not to mention how unsafe this world is at this time.
When you don't cam anymore, I bet the agoraphobia will melt away.
Best of luck, and keep us posted.

Edit to add: Since we're entertainers who speak to hundreds, even thousands of people on cam everyday, when we got out, it just seems like too much work to still be 'on', you know what I mean?
My first husband was an entertainer. I remember being pissed because right after his performances, all he wanted to do was be home, alone in his man cave, and order in.
    I get it now.

I'm not sure it's just camming that is the issue. I used to have that anxiety when going out of the house when younger, and I had to go out to a corporate hospital job every weekday. I seem to have outgrown that feeling, and I do love being social when it's with people I really like. Staying home gives me time to recharge.

I don't like going out every day though. I hate forced interaction. I want to be social when I'm in the mood to, not because i have to.

I have phases of being extremely home bodied focused ( my day job allows this because it's mostly online ).
I've found you need to watch yourself and these habits because you *can* slowly slip into some mental problems ( depression ect. ) which is what happened to me about 6-12 months ago. I think you need to have a really big self awareness when you are home alone often because there is no one to check it with or who notices ( other than your partner if you have one ) that you may be down or start to act different .

I think if you want to change your routine , the best way is to get out for some enjoyable situations ( coffee shops that are quiet, going to the movies ) as a starting point.

Also, even simple "maintenance" tasks can be good to get back outside and interacting with people... grocery shopping (you can choose stores with self-checkout lanes), walking the dog, getting your mail, picking up take-out food from restaurants. I used to be very socially anxious, and found tasks like this to be a good "gateway" to get myself out in the world. I would also give myself other tasks, like having to compliment 3 strangers every day (things like "I like your purse," etc.), and that was really helpful, as well.

Omg ME!!!! This weekend i've only left my "room" once which was on Fri night to go to the market for something to cook so I wouldn't have to leave at all this weekend LOL. Honestly, it's not on purpose with me it just happens, out job literally ties us to a pc or phone if we want money at the end of the week. I'm planning a nice hiking trip this week & am looking forward to it bc I also hate how much weight I've gained from being an Agoraphobe

I didn't develop agoraphobia because of camming. In my case it's genetic. Anxiety runs in my family and one of my grandma's had terrible agoraphobia which largely contributed to her death. I have some agoraphobic tendencies but mostly I struggle with social anxiety. I feel like I'd rather hide in my home more often than not. Going out in public causes me terrible anxiety but at the same time, I know it's necessary especially when I have to go to the grocery store, bank, etc. It depends on the setting and season. Winter is over here and the weather is finally warming up.

When it's nice and sunny outside I love being outdoors in nature, like at a park or a nature trail. I can go to street art fairs, concerts, and sports games and such too. It just overwhelms me and makes me feel drained when I'm out in public around a lot of people for long. After a while I feel like I have to escape to be alone. Yesterday I was outside riding my bicycle and felt relaxed until going to the grocery store. It was so packed and I almost felt like abandoning my cart and walking out. I needed groceries though so I stayed. Reading other peoples' posts, I can see that others deal with similar issue. You're not alone. *hugs*

OMG ain't it tho?! LoL Yes I'm really looking forward to this awesome trail/park I've found outside my area for this week. As long as I'm not completely surrounded by people when I get out I do alright. I hate that feeling that "everyone" is staring at me. I know it's normal for people to observe their surroundings but dam ugh haha that shit is intense. I love working from home, don't get me wrong but you def have to balance it with outside things otherwise pretty soon the outside world is beyond scary.

Wendi, I too struggle with the whole grocery store being packed thing but this is how I deal with it. I'll try to only go when the peak times are over, so say like on a weekday around 8pm until sometimes 10 bc it's usually pretty dead unlike the weekends when EVERYONE is there trying to get their shopping done for the week. Same deal with Target, and other errand like places. I tried going on the weekend once bc I was bored & wanted to get out of the house & OMG I regretted it LoL. Lesson learned! The summer does ease my anxiety tho due to more fun things going on.

If it's too personal, I understand. But how did agoraphobia contribute to your grandmother's death?

She had severe agoraphobia to the point where she would not leave her house at all, not even to walk on her front yard to get the mail from the mail box. She was having bad stomach pain but didn't want to tell anyone because she was too afraid that she'd have to leave the house. Her appendix had burst. By the time she was removed from her home by force and taken to the hospital, she was very ill. The hospital was too focused on her agoraphobia and the fact that she hadn't left her house in years. They had her committed to the psychiatric ward and somehow didn't notice how sick she was. After she passed away they listed the cause of death as peritonitis from a burst appendix. If she hadn't been so afraid to leave her home and seek help sooner and if the asshole medical staff hadn't used her agoraphobia against her, maybe she could have been saved. Maybe she could have lived. I hate the stigma that is associated with mental illness.

    Jesus that's horrifying!
I'm so very sorry to hear that.
I can't even imagine the pain, both physical and mental that she had to endure.

Ugh I can sooo relate to this. I somehow feel so good between the 4 walls & i started to be so afraid of socialising. I force myself tough to get out and do stuff. Boyfriend helps aswell. But soon I will have a really good friends wedding, she wants me to be her bridesmaid. That scares the shit out of me as i will have to do all this stuff for her (like bachelorette party & other traditions). I wonder why wedevelop such feelings ? I think it's because we try to please people so freaking much on cam that we put a wall between us and the other real people (something like : i don't feeling like beeing nice anymore & having to socialise; i am not getting paid to talk with you so i don't want to do it anymore).

For me it was agoraphobia. due to my traumatic experience of being held captive. Now I am just happy being home with being an affiliate marketer full-time now and camming when I want to I don't need to leave the house unless there is something I am interested in travelling for events or other things.

Basically if your not scared to leave the house then yes you should go out and do something even it's sitting in a coffee shop reading a book. IT's not even about being other around people it's more about changing your general well being once in a while shaking things up because it can get extremely depression only being in your home all the time weeks on end.

I'm an agoraphobe but only in the area where I live since it's small. I developed agoraphobia secondary to my social anxiety disorder since i hate running into the same people and hate having to make small talk. Down at my mom's in the bay area, I'm fine and love going out. I already had this problem before starting with the sex work stuff tho.

Omg. I am happy to see this thread. I have anxiety and agoraphobia and panic too. I want to try another job but I am so afraid its going to make me leave the house. I keep camming cause its from home. I freak out over future plans where I will have to leave. It sucks sometimes.
