Default Rookie chicago dancer looking for REAL advice

Hey, I'm Bonnie. I havent set up my profile yet but I've made up my mind to try out being a stripper, or exotic dancer, i read that calling yourself a stripper is frowned upon. Anyway, I'm a 24 year old black woman with a 1 yr old so i have a little (not a lot at all) extra meat. Im 5 feet 4 imches tall and i dont hve the slightest idea where to start. I dont have any background in dancing but id love to learn and i know everyone has to start somewhere. As a black 24 year old with a pretty face, nice body and no experience in chicago, are there any pointers any of you ladies can give me, or any clubs i should look into. Also, i am really really tired of the day to day, conventional minimum wage jobs, would it be an okay idea to just quit my current job and throw myself into dancing? Would i make more than the 1500/month (750/biweekly) that i make now after taxes?

First things first, there's a million threads on here addressing basically every question you've asked already. Read every sticky thread at the top of the newbie forum.

Do a search in the club chat section for information about chicago clubs.

I would NOT suggest quitting your current job until you have at least a few months of stripping under your belt. In my experience, about 70% of new girls quit dancing within the first 3 months because they find out they're either not cut out for it, or because they just aren't suited for the job. Wait until you know for sure if dancing is really for you before you quit your vanilla job. Plus, dancing is extremely exhausting and hard on the body, especially at first. You'll likely want to work weekends only for the first few weeks while your body gets used to it, and while you adjust. Then after a few months of that, if you decide stripping is for you, then you can revisit the idea of dancing full time.

I can't say how much youll make, it is super dependent on your club, your look, your body, your hustle, and how often you work. But most dancers make more than 1500 a month. You likely will too.
Do your future self a favor and work hard now.

As pp said, it's impossible for any of us to say what you will make. Especially what you will consistently make. Don't quit your day job until you've stripped for long enough to know if it's something you'll stick with. Many ladies have at least a part time job because although stripping can be great money, it's unpredictable, so it's nice to have that bit of guaranteed income, and it also avoids having a hole in your resume etc.

Side note, I've never heard a stripper say not to call them a stripper (other than girls who flaked out of the industry anyhow because they were here for the ~art~ and bringing class back or some shit). I don't think dancer is a great label because there are tons of strippers out there that don't really dance, the one thing we have in common is we do all at least remove some clothing. A thick skin is required for this job so anybody who is going to get all worked up over being called a stripper probably isn't cut out for this in the first place.

The worst mistake anyone can make is overthinking when it comes to researching stripping beforehand. You are losing out on money every day that you overthink this! If you're curious and gutsy, then go audition somewhere! Once you've auditioned, start figuring out your look, your hustle, etc. But step one is to see if you can get hired somewhere and work a shift.

Do NOT quit your straight job before you have worked in the club for at least a month. Get a few shifts under your belt before you take drastic actions. And even if you do quit your job, be sure to start formulating a financial game plan immediately. Stripping is all fun and games until you factor in all of the nasty independent contractor downfalls (high taxes, paying for your own insurance, etc.), plus the industry's high rate of burnout. It might be a good fit for you, or it might not...

There's nothing quite like working a slow/ dead shift in a strip club. Depending on where you live, the season, and your experience level, a vanilla job can be a life - and sanity saver. Even having a part - time job as an employee usually makes dancing a much more enjoyable gig. Dancing as a sole source of income is hardcore for a newbie.

Best of luck, and apologies for my brevity... I'm on mobile.
