A very wealthy, reputable, and reliable regular of mine wants to meet outside of work for lunch, but hasn't mentioned compensation. How do I address this without being off putting? Thank you!

^ Tell him sweetly that you're excited to meet him out for lunch, but you're wondering, since you're taking the day off, if he could maybe take care of you since you have a few bills due.

Don't meet without compensation, even if it's just "shopping money".
A LOT of these club customers are harboring unrealistic fanatasies & meeting them in person for free "makes it real" to them. They can lash out against you in a bad way if you reject them after a "free lunch." I guess the hurt feelings are doubled in that kind of scenario.

Tell him you are super busy with school or something and that if you meet him you won't be able to work that night due to workload etc, he should offer you some money if not, don't go.
xoxo

I'd just assume he was compensating me while conversing with him & let him know exactly what I am assuming while being very enthusiastic about going to lunch with him . If he likes you, why would he want to turn that smile to a frown ? Lol

I did tell him I was really busy, and that I had been planning to work that day (all true actually). He didn't offer up, so I just told him I'm not comfortable meeting outside of the club. I was hoping he'd get the hint, but I'm at a point where I can afford to lose him, and he's really not been worth the trouble lately wanting me to switch my schedule to work around his, when I make more on other shifts. If he goes elsewhere I'm ok with it, actually. Thanks for the advice, everyone!

I'm glad it got resolved. I thought about it & the problem I've noticed with socially inept men is they buy into the movie trope of "hot girl *suddenly* sees the worth of guy sitting across from her at Applebee's" (.........so the movie plot can advance & the RomCom can clock in at under 120 minutes) & he gets a fantasy handed to him. Guys don't think about all the precautions women take when getting to know strange men.
