Skull Do you get sick a LOT?

Okay I'm fairly new to dancing - this is maybe the 4th month I've done it.

I got a new day job and cut myself down to one or two nights a week. I work at a full contact club where a LOT of men want to kiss.

I hate kissing as part of the dance but it seems to ensure I get a longer dance out of it but holy shit I've never gotten sick so many times in my life. I'm going to stop kissing these idiots because right now I just had to call out of both jobs for now because I'm fairly sure I got the flu from one of these dudes.

Do you kiss on the job? What type of club do you work at and how long have you been dancing? And do you get sick ALL THE FUCKING TIME

I wouldn't allow kissing even if customers expect it, and if cutting out this behavior would hurt your money I'd change clubs altogether. You can catch a lot worse than flus and common colds from kissing strangers. When I first started dancing, I used to get a lot of sore throats and coughs because smoking is allowed in the clubs I've worked at, and between being a non-smoker and not spending time with smokers, my lungs aren't used to breathing in cigarette smoke all the time.

I don't get sick often anymore. I think being a dancer boosts your immune system since you're exposed to so many germs. I also eat healthier than I ever have and I take a daily multivitamin which helps out. Whenever I feel like I'm coming down with something, I load up on water, green tea, and Airborne, and it usually fights it off before it becomes a problem.

Eww. Kissing, fuck.no! Idc what the job says!
There's Airborne, designed by a teacher that caught germs from her students, there's a generic form of it, has vit C zinc, etc.
Also, I heard twice now of catching a secondary form of strep throat, & having to have AMPUTATIONS from getting so sick..It just recently happened to a young healthy man.
Not to mention flu, viruses etc.
In one city, like 20 people died of the flu.
I just saw above mention of Airborne too.
Also, I got a flu shot

Fuck no I don't kiss customers! I know you are new, but WTF???? It's partially because of behavior like this the industry is going to shit! DON'T LET CUSTOMERS MANIPULATE YOU INTO KISSING THEM! In addition to being downright gross, you're getting sick, causing you to lose money to take time off from work!

Next time they want to kiss, just tell them you can't.

Ugh. Sorry, but it needs to be reiterated...
Don't. Kiss. Customers. You don't need to do that to make money!

I barely ever get sick, btw. Probably because I'm not kissing customers.

I don't kiss customers ever but I have a poor immune system and when I first started dancing I would get sick from picking up germs in the club all the freaking time. I even got whooping cough once. ugh.

First off, money is covered in germs-- everyone touches it and it never gets washed. Use hand sanitizer after you count your money and before you touch your face or eat at work. Get in the habit of using it consistently at work. I wouldn't suggest using it outside of work because you don't want to completely stop being exposed to germs or you wont ever gain immunity.

Second, vitamins are your friend. Vitamin C daily. Vitamin D3 daily. Beta Glucans is my holy grail immune boosting product. Take 1 daily.

The MOMENT you feel a cold/flu coming on, go home immediately and rest, take HIGH DOSES of vitamin c, take echinatia and goldenseal vitamins, take zinc (but not too much), and take 3 Beta Glucan pills. If you believe its viral (not bacterial) you can also try the hairdryer trick-- put lotion on your face (to prevent dry skin) and then blast yourself with hot air for 10 minutes, breathing it in. The heat kills off viruses juts like a fever does. You can also induce a fever by taking a super hot bath.
Do your future self a favor and work hard now.

    Garlic pills are good too.
Eating garlic isn't enough, you need very high dosage

I get the typical cold or stomach bug sometimes during winter. Not letting the customers spit into my mouth probably plays a part in keeping me healthy

Welllll I haven't been kissing anyone except my sweetie (well and his hot ex lover who came through town and we all 3 made out ), but I DO get sick a lot.

I had 6 colds in as many months this last year. Then I learned about this supplement, a combination of immune boosting mushrooms called MyCommunity Host Defense. They are created by Paul Stamets, an expert in the field of mycology. He has a TED talk on youtube:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XI5frPV58tY

Legit scientist who knows what the fuck he is doing.

Anyway, I started taking that supplement a couple months ago and started a new job in a hospital, exposed to all kinds of germs and nasty shit. I haven't been sick since. Might be too early to really tell; Fall and Winter will be the test. It's expensive but so far I say worth it

I swear by using 3% hydrogen peroxide in my ears to prevent getting sick. If I start to feel yucky in the slightest I just lay on my side until the bubbling stops and put some in my ear.

NOOOOOOO! Do NOT kiss custies, babe! I work at the highest contact club in my freaking state I swear sometimes. DO NOT KISS! Yes men will push for it. I will breathe on their ears, or brush my lips on their neck, I'll bite through their shirt...DO NOT SWAP SPIT! There is ONE customer who is a former fuck buddy of mine, who I knew from outside of the club, but now I only see at work. I kiss him. THAT'S IT! You don't know where these guys have been. Don't do it! You don't have to do it to make money. I'm a PRUDE compared to some of the other girls and I walk out with almost a grand on a day shift, love. No judgement, I promise you. I've been there, thinking I had to to make money. I DON'T. YOU DON'T.

OK now that I'm off my soapbox, dancing is a bit like nursing and daycare work, in that it actually builds your immunity to colds and flus after a few months. You should be getting past the worst of it soon, if you started a few months ago. I took a few years off and came back. I was sick with some cold or sniffley thing for a few months, just from men breathing on and touching me. It happened when I first started too. Your body builds T memory cells, which will help other immune cells to proliferate more quickly after a second contact with similar antigens...thereby increasing the speed of your adaptive immune reponse the second time around. It's pretty freaking cool actually!

ALL that said, you can build up your innate (first line if defense) immunity, by eating fermented food or taking a good quality, diverse probiotic. Use raw apple cider vinegar or raw honey on your skin to re-establish a good biome after doing any type of sanitizing, with antimicrobial wash or toner. Sleep, eat healthy. Do all the stuff grandma told you to do. Take silymarin to help your liver metabolize alcohol, if you drink. It will keep you healthy. Sanitize the pole with a rag and alcohol, too.

I'm currently studying bio, starting my PhD this summer. Just so ya know I'm not talking out my ass lol

...I do the peroxide in ear thing too. It signals he immune system to send all the "fighters" to the area.

In case anyone wants to read about why hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) works. Chemotaxis is the movement of cells, and neutrophils are the white blood cells that are the body's first line of defense in a cell mediated immune response.

Kombucha is a great provider of probiotics. I make it at home.

I feel the need to add that if you do get sick a lot you should take videos of you coughing, sneezing, snotty tissues, etc. and sell them. Waste not, want not.

Actually sick as in cold and sinus sick...no but I have EXCESSIVE gas and I don't know how to go about ridding it. Ive tried everything--peppermint and oil teas, ales...everything and I still get occassional gas; sometimes its mild but sometimes its so unopredicatable and can make me feel like I have to throw up. I've had to pull over on the side of the road just to throw up

Are you sure it's not caused my a particular food that doesn't agree with you. If I eat wheat regularly I get these bouts like good poisoning once a month. For my mom she gets bloated and gassy.

Hmmm. That sounds like Leaky Gut Syndrome, lactose intolerance or IBS to me.

Bah IBS is just a name for symptoms. I definitely agree that there something going on that can probably be fixed.

Maybe a dumb question, but would using hydrogen peroxide for mouthwash help prevent colds??
