Default Dancing vs. Serving? Who makes more money?

I have danced at clubs before. I can honestly say I hate strip clubs by now lol I am going to have a newborn baby soon and also going back to school so I'm thinking of hitting the club again. I will only be able to work a couple days out of the week. My question is would working at the bar make as much or maybe even more then dancing? I have never tried it before. I feel like guys are so cheap to tip on dances I guess depending on the club too and I feel like there is a lot of competition with the other girls. Unless I was getting private dances I felt like it was so much work. I am in Chicago, I feel like I always see the guys tip the waitresses no matter what. Sometimes guys won't even spend money on the dancers but they would buy drinks all night or maybe just pick one dancer. That's just from my experience. Guys like to talk to the dancers try to touch them or flirt and won't even tip them. I'm wondering if I'll have a better experience serving drinks.

i doubt you'd make more, but maybe close. the only thing is as a bartender or server you will actually have a schedule and have to work much longer hours with less flexibility, plus if you're only available for like 3 shifts they may be reluctant to hire you. and if you don't have server or bartender experience don't expect to get in anywhere good unless you know someone. also.. at most places the waitresses don't have it as easy as you think unless they've been there a long time and get all the high rollers who buy bottles. on the plus side, you do get hourly pay but in some places that's nothing

Ime- the dancers generally make more (sometimes WAY more) than the servers BUT the top servers and bartenders definitely out-earn the bottom dancers. There are plenty of guys out there tipping waitresses in nickels or going to the bar to buy their drinks because "then they don't have to tip" like the bartender isn't doing any work making them?

It depends on the club whether you would be able to serve 2 nights out of them week and have them be okay with it. If those two days happen to be Friday and Saturday you could probably get away with it. Otherwise serving doesn't usually have that flexibility.

You could take a bar tending course, get a hotel bar or upscale resturant job and work out something with a club to promote for them with a kick back. Since you danced before you know you can small talk and listen, good bartending skills.

This! ^^^ I've noticed since the Great Recession that older bartenders are way more standoffish about their jobs. It's much harder to get a great bartending job & don't expect anyone to cut breaks.

Yeah bartending school is out of the question I don't want to spend anymore money on school the reason why I am considering the strip club is because school will already be taking up most of my time. I think if anything I might go back to dancing. Thanks for the advice ladies. After all I want to keep my schedule as flexible as I can without putting in too many hours maybe just weekends.

I used to think the waitresses had it easy, until I became one. There is even more competition between waitresses, politics and you have to deal with the crazy management every day. Customers are rude and you might still have to deal with them, then you have a very long night cleaning up the club when the dancers leave. you have to arrange cover if you need a night off. Dancing is way more easier.

Hi! I'm not 100% sure about who makes more money as I am newish to dancing, but I have been bartending for about 4 years! So I have some insight to share! And now I do both! Anyway, Chanzep is 100% correct, waitressing is very competitive because most of them want to be the next bartender and they want the best shifts! I waitresses for about 2 weeks before I was asked to bartend and let me tell you I HATED it!! For me if you are going to be in the service industry bartending is the way to go! More fun, more money, and you are behind the bar so customers can't get grabby with you! And usually the bartenders are a lot more chill then the waitstaff. If you don't have any experience it's going to be really hard to find a bartending job, because every server they already have probably already wants to be moved up to bartending. With my experience (I've worked in some well known places and have great references) I've been offered a waitressing job with the potential to move up to bartending, at this point in the interview I say thanks for your time but I'm going to have to pass. It's just how some places work, so don't get discouraged if they won't hire you to bartend a lot of places just don't hire bartenders. I never went to any classes or school for bartending, I just learned on the job! Idk how well you memorize things, but it's important to know at least basic cocktails, beers, and wine (if you are at a place that focuses on wine). I'm also often quizzed during interviews, for example name 5 types of whiskey or what is in an old fashion etc etc
Also bartending is kinda like dancing in terms of hussle, the more you hussle and upsell and make them feel good = more money for your tips!!!
Sorry this is long, I hope it helps you!

I asked that as a newbie and the management laughed me outta the room practically --on average, in the average stripclub, dancers earn way more w far more flexibility and less hours.
Esp if you have a new baby, flexibility and walk in schedule is a must

i feel like it's also worth mentioning that as a dancer, if a customer doesn't tip/spend you can walk away or possibly even tell them to fuck off if they're really rude. as a bartender or server you're an employee, not an independent contractor.. so if you're serving some dude who is a creepy rude asshole AND doesn't tip you still have to keep serving him and be polite about it. to me that's the worst part lol

This is SUCH a great point! I love that when I'm dancing it someone is rude or gets grabby with me I can tell them to fuck off.... while bartending you usually either have to kiss their ass, comp their food/drinks, and involve a manager... all with an apologetic smile of course lol 🤢

I think this depends on where you are located. In NY, the urban stripclubs are all about the bartenders/waitresses. Nobody even goes yo the club to see the dancers. But in other places it's probably different.
