I've heard that a couple times. What the fuck is that even supposed to mean lol what is a stripper supposed to act/look like outside the club? Has anyone heard this?

Yes all the time...
Seems to depend on superficial factors. Like if I'm wearing sexier clothes and lots of makeup, it rarely happens. If I have on a sundress, bam, "you don't look like a stripper!" Ditto for the normal work accoutrements; acrylic nails + extensions sway into the Off Duty Stripper camp.
I think they expect us to look club glam ALL the time and the idea many of us do our makeup or personal style separate from our stripper side throws them off.

Yeah these are people who only know what a stripper is supposed to look like on days off from movies/tv. We're supposed to be slutty-glam 24/7.
Most of the girls I know live in sweatpants/workout gear and literally don't own a pair of heels for civilian use (why wreck your feet for free). And the idea of putting on makeup for days off? noooooo let that skin breathe omg
A former roommate was in a uni class where everybody was convinced the blonde with acrylics who showed up looking uber hot every day was a stripper. She was like LMAO think about it for 5 seconds, do you really think a girl who works till 2am would be showing up at an 8am class all done up? If she even shows up she'd be rolling out of bed in her pajamas and not talking to anybody.

insert any sex worker title and I don't look like one here.
It really depends if you want to get into a debate with the person. but its a good place to ask them what do they mean, how are you suppose to look and really get an idea of what twisted believes they have.

Basically people like that assume all strippers are damn near prostitutes so they're expecting you to look/act like a stereotypical street hooker (fishnets, 6in heels, teased hair plus extensions, full makeup with lashes, skimpy outfit showing cleavage/ass cheeks/pussy print, etc) and walk around, switching your hips, like you own that motherfucker and hustling dudes out of their money using pure seduction.
Some women have no sc persona so these women are pretty much the same inside and outside the club.
But who would draw that much attention to themselves outside of the club unless they lived in Hollywood, were a celebrity and had bodyguards, or just mentally unstable.
And yes I knew a woman who dressed and acted very provocatively and people always though she was a stripper. She admitted to me she was close to auditioning but allegedly changed her mind. I bet that bish did strip but never told anyone.

Most strippers don't look like strippers lmao.

People are usually surprised/shocked when I tell them. I don't fit the stereotype at all. But what's funny is how people don't think of it as a job. It's *just* a job, it's not a way of life, there's no personality transplant involved, and it's about money more than anything else. We're just performers, putting on an act.
This is one of those jobs that most people will never understand or relate to, because they haven't been in our shoes. This industry is also very secretive, and when it (rarely) ends up in the media, it's only natural that people are interested in the most titillating, exciting, controversial parts. It's hard for people to learn about us, and I think they'd rather believe the fun, raunchy stuff, anyway.

I prob did when I was younger bc I thought it was so cool that omg i'm a dancer making all this money now lol boy have I changed over the years LoL. Now i'm lucky if I even apply makeup to go shopping or run errands. I only dress up if i'm going out dancing to a night club with friends. Now that I cam & only work online I can get away with being lazy & not worrying about makeup or looking good constantly. That shit is exhausting!

I get it A LOT. I'm a small Asian girl and I guess it's that innocence factor? Im not sure...But I tend to get more of the "you don't act like a stripper" thing.
I once had someone not believe I'm in university because I'm a stripper. He said, "is that the story you tell everyone?" I wanted to slap him in the face.

I think it goes along with how much fantasy and acting is involved. People think that the strippers they meet in the club are real.

This is one of th things actually wears on me the most as a stripper..people always have a preconceived notion of what a stripper should be. I'm not allowed to have my own interests or personality or hobbies or experiences..they want me to be a drugged out stupid ditzy party girl who has crazed nymphomania. Lmao.
People have straight up told me that I'm not shy or introverted because of what I do for work. Once you tell someone you're a stripper, it becomes your whole identity for them
