Default director of hot girls wanted talks about her documentary

I really like how she kept the conversation open instead of forming a black and white opinion. I think the reason why people are so judgmental is because sex work isn't a black or white issue, it is more nuanced.

I think sex work CAN be empowering, but the fact our culture doesn't provide a legal, social sanctionsed avenue is was makes it disempowering. It's not sex work that bothers me, it's the fact it's often unsafe, unregulated, and looked down on that makes it hardest.

Yes! I really liked the original documentary she did. She has a new series out now called Hot Girls Wanted:Turned On, which I haven't seen yet.

I think Hot Girls Wanted was a great insight into the porn world... at least, porn as controlled by male-run studios preying on young girls. My biggest complaint was that they didn't show females creating their own content online, either camming or selling it themselves. Curious to see how the new series addresses that.

It's nice to see other girls like us out in the media, but I wish the dark side of this industry didn't exist... women being taken advantage of, put in dangerous situations, degraded, etc. Well-made documentaries like this are great for showing the rest of the world that we're human. I think our society is slowly becoming more open-minded about sex work.

My problem w HGW is that it's exploitative. It's just catering to people who want to jerk off to how "sad" sex workers' lives are. HGW is problematic on many levels.

I hated HGW. It contributes to the, "Oh, poor sex workers ...such lost, misguided, broken souls" stereotype and all of the girls in the documentary were young, immature, and lacked a solid game plan. How about talking to porn stars who are empowered businesswomen who enjoy their jobs and the freedom it gives them? Or at least combining a mix of viewpoints so the viewer can ultimately decide for themselves. There's no doubt that there are girls who are being exploited and preyed on, but that's not everyone.

I'm so tired of the assumption that all sex workers -- be it porn stars or strippers -- are drugged up, broken women who have no better options in life, and the documentaries that contribute to these beliefs. This documentary made no effort to portray a different image. They focused on the sleaziest "agency" and most naive girls they could have possibly found.

I guess she didn't convey that nuance in her documentary. She had a great way of explaining women's sexuality in this clip. I agree the victim perspective, while maybe is more compassionate than the condemnation narrative, make us look like we all are fucked up losers. There's toxic and dangerous workplaces everywhere! There's unhealthy people in every profession. Yes, the job might attract more unhealthy women than others, but that doesn't mean we are anymore screwed up than the average person. Pros and cons to everything. I think by capitalizing on the daily sexual harassment I deal with everyday makes me smarter.

I saw Turned On and think it's far better than her first. Production value is much better and the subject matters are more diverse and digs deeper in each case. Really worth a look. I especially liked the one about the guy addicted to Tinder. This one does cover women who are empowered as well.

The first one is about the very first female photographer for Playboy (when there was a magazine) and her daughter who was doing well directing soft core porn, but is struggling with trying to make a living on her terms because of, well, free online porn.

I recommend it. Turned On has so many different points of view.

Yes and I swear to god they edit these women to make them sour stupid and they edit them to make them sound like they're in direct competition with each other when that is not how most of us who work in this industry understand it- we would not make money obsessing over how every other girl makes money....
