Dizzy Newbie, does my gameplan sound realistic?

Hey all! I've been reading threads on here for a little while now and I *think* I have a plan for dancing but wanted to run it by some more experienced ears

I have a college degree. I've worked office jobs for about 5 years..administrative assistant jobs and jobs working for colleges mostly. It was never what I wanted to do as a job, but it paid the bills. I hate my current job..the people, the environment, etc. But the pay is pretty good..

Ultimately what I've always wanted to do is have a portrait photography business (seniors photos, families, newborns, etc). I've done photography in the past and I'm quite good, I've just never had the time or drive to make a business out of it. So, my plan is..

Start dancing while working my current full time job, dancing a few nights a week. Do both for a couple months to save up extra/pay off some CC debt (just a few thousand) and to get acclimated to the club.

Then, after 2-3 months, quit my full time job that I hate and dance full time. Planning on dancing for 2 years at most, while I save up and work on getting my photography business off the ground, then slowly phase into just photography and maybe dancing on the side at first.

Does this sound crazy? I live in Northern Indiana, most of the clubs right near me are smaller. The club I'm thinking of starting at is a Deja Vu. I've talked to dancers, the housemom, and the manager there and it sounds like a good first club. I'm not too far from Chicago or bigger cities in Michigan with higher paying clubs which I might try out at a little later on. I've been taking some pole classes and teaching myself floorwork and stuff from youtube. I'm very fit (I'm in the gym 5-6 days per week), petite but curvy, cute, edgy unique style etc...

I'm super serious about wanting to dance, and I'm so frustrated with my office jobs, and I know ultimately I don't want to do office stuff the rest of my life. Photography is my dream.. Am I nuts? haha

I think it is a great plan. You may have to only do a couple days on the weekends while you work full time or else you're just going to be too tired to go to your office job and I know you hate it but I'm sure you don't want to leave there fired for slacking at work. Always keep your doors and bridges untouched. Good luck !

You aren't crazy, I'm in the same boat. Definitely keep things like healthcare and dental in the back of your mind!

Good plan! Stripping is a short term, while your beauty and figure hold, profession. Like the NFL or NBA, you just can't do this forever. So, having something you like/are good at as the end goal is great. Figure out how much money you need to get the business up and running, then add a big cushion. That's your money goal. Save, save, save, and then save some more.

I think it is a good plan as well, I am going to just add to what Ariel said about dancing only on the weekend while you have your day job. You may be able to pull ONE shift off a week where you get up the next day and go into the office depending how late the clubs where you are close and what time you have to be to the office the next day. (IE leave at 1 am and be there by 9 am is very different than leave at 4 am and be to the office at 7).

Also, the initial 2-3 month time frame, plan on extending this a little bit if you have to. If you start and feel like you need more time to really get the hang of dancing do not beat yourself up about it.

Good plan! I agree with Gia, though. I'd extend the 2-3 month time frame to 4-5 months. Give yourself time to build a solid client base before you give the office job the heave-ho.

Thank you ladies! Yeah..the time frame, I am so anxious to get out of my office job but I know I need to be financially responsible. I'm hoping I can quit in September, but if need be I can stay longer. Ugh lol.

How "prepared" should I be before I audition do you think? I talked to the manager and he basically said I barely need to audition (apparently I have the look they're going for). I'm one of those people that likes to be as prepared as possible going into a new situation though haha. I've been practicing some dance moves, I learned some basic pole tricks, been watching youtube videos etc, but I still feel a little awkward because it's so new to me. Should I wait to audition/get started or just go for it? There are all different skill levels at this club, I just don't want to look like an idiot haha

You sound ready--or as ready as you will ever be. Just audition. It sounds like you basically have the job already. Everyone's awkward when they start out.

Also, your gameplan sounds great. I did the almost the same thing when I was starting out as a writer. You can totally do this.
