    Default SERIOUS privacy concern!!!!!

Okay... so I just made a facebook for my clip store. Facebook made me verify with my phone number. I set it to not let people find me by my number. But there are STILL people I ACTUALLLLLY know in my 'people you may know'. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON NUMEROUS OTHER SOCIAL MEDIA OUTLETS, ALSO.

So, HOW do YOU guys deal with this? How do you 'use your phone number to verify your identity' without exposing yourself? THE THING IS, THESE THINGS NEVER ALLOW TEXTING APP NUMBERS...

btw i freaked out and deleted the page. i'm thinking about not even clipselling now smh

I have found this to be an issue too so my solution was to completely separate my personal from business accounts. To do that, I use a completely different phone for my personal facebook, twitter, etc and another phone for just my camming persona(s) so they can't be linked together in that way. As I found out the hard way when people on my personal facebook could see my camming persona via Instagram.

Facebook is a nightmare! I don't have a business page for this work and I haven't even added my phone number to my personal facebook. I have another business page that facebook managed to link eventhough I use a different email address...my daughter got it suggested to her and I cannot see how that could have happened as I used different contact info, different skype address and a different browser.

Even though you can have your email address hidden from friends, facebook will show it to people trying to find friends through their hotmail account. I had a regular customer find my personal facebook because my work hotmail had somehow linked with my personal email and it showed him my facebook account including my email address that I even have blocked from my friends! He only knew that was me though because I used a profile photo of myself...I no longer do that.

Don't use Facebook or instagram (owned by Facebook) for true privacy.

Most cam models and adult entertainers use Twitter, Tumblr, etc. You give up a bit of privacy on social media but Facebook is the worst at invading. They even track your actions when you're not on site and logged out of FB.

Also the less data you give about yourself (to the network itself or to your associates/friends/etc) the harder it is for social media to make connections.

Well for starters why are you using facebook to build a clip store. that is just asking for trouble right there.

Facebook is awesome for a vanilla mainstream business. that is all.

You can sell clips just do not use facebook to promote it.

Facebook is great to connect with if you aren't scared and are wanting to create a business page that works with your Instagram. Also it's a money maker if you create a private group on FB. I would say a private group for adult marketing is the way to go on FB. You don't even have to create a page under your performer or real name. Just create a generic profile and set it up for business then link it to your Instagram to gain more insight on when and where to post. We talk about this all the time around here. Get familiar with the stickies in the Camming Connection to learn more about using social media to build your brand. Don't sign up via a mobile device. Don't ever use FB on a mobile device. Even if its for connecting to your family, if you're serious about making money in this business and STILL scared about being outed...don't use FB on mobile period. I only use mine on desktop and I also use different browsers. One browser for adult, one for family and then a third for mainstream businesses.

Facebook has tons of traffic but if you're going to use it for adult you have to be lowkey, like hide out in the sexy groups. I log into mine twice a week just to post pics in groups and then I ignore it. It is the worst but at the same time potentially the best spot for promo. DONT USE IT ON YOUR PHONE. I've been at this for years and I swear I don't have these sort of issues. It may do you guys some good to set up a google voice number just in case. One google voice account per phone number. I have three of them. You really can't hide in this business and expect to make money, I don't think it works that way for the majority.

WHAT? Why spread fear? Facebook isn't gonna get you murdered just because you post on it. That poor lady wasn't even selling clips.

I suppose there's potential for harm on any platform when using social media if you give out identifying information. AND most importantly some psycho sees your post. It happens. I see women on this very board assisting men with finding other women from clubs without knowing if he's a stalker or not. I'm not even a facebook fan myself but I know that it's possible with all platforms if you don't study up.

I used to have a camming facebook, about 10 years ago, had it separated completely from any personal things, different email, birth date, diff. photos, location, even different browser, never ever used it on my phone and it consistently would pull in people I know and people who lived near me (like, right in my neighborhood) suggesting I add them, and I assume I was popping up for them too.

I don't think there is any way to protect yourself with that damn thing. I got rid of it and won't even use it for personal use.

If you use fb use an alternative number and a different browser (or clear your cookies and history) each time you log on. It links accounts that way also. Learned that the hard way.

Also when Facebook or any social network ask you to "verify with a phone number".....you're about to give away a piece of your data and privacy here.

If you registered this cell phone upon purchase/activation - This phone number is linked to your name/address. If you verify then Facebook now has this data. If you've given this number to any of your contacts, they most likely will eventually show up in your "friends you may know list".

Although you checked the box to not have friends find you by phone number or email, that doesn't stop Facebooks algorithm of who they show in your "friends you may know". This is one of the worst things about Facebook, as far as I know, you can't turn that feature off.

You literally have to think like you're in Witness Protection program if you want to hold on to any piece of privacy. But again going online and registering with social networks - this is no easy feat. Giving up privacy is the price we pay to live in a digital world. That's why its best to not even be on the site if your privacy is a priority. If you do get back on do your research first. And read the sites TOS regarding privacy.

I found facebook totally useless for adult, so I deleted my presence there. I kept seeing my cam persona recommended to my vanilla self, so I deleted. Supposedly if you clear cookies and such this can be avoided, but I have suspicions even that won't work. I found twitter did the same thing, so I deleted my personal twitter and kept it for my sex work, since twitter is actually useful for that.

Oh yeah and instagram also does this. I had a RL friend get recommended my cam persona to follow...and some other of my RL colleagues found me that way so I deleted my sex work IG. I guess if you have separate computers or are pretty savvy with these things like having two phones etc. it might be manageable.

I would have conversations with people, not even on my phone. Then ads for products mentioned in those conversations started popping up on my FB. I deleted it. FB is evil & I am not the only person to notice this either.

There are articles to say that story is fake, but I experienced it myself. And it wasn't stuff I was browsing online either.

I go shopping at a store, then ads for it start popping up.
I buy hair dye & ads for that brand start popping up.

    It is way to invasive

Yes, this happens with me all the time. Until very recently I didn't have a SmartPhone, or anything else that could covertly monitor me, yet I could have a conversation with a friend about something absolutely random and there it appears in my feed hours later. One notable incident was "Dylon", my friend had been having trouble finding a blue clothes dye and told me so. We were in the street at the time. Later on that day, an advert for BLUE DYLON appeared in my feed. I have no idea how this could have happened.

So am I safe in terms of privacy if I deactivated my fb & only kept my messenger app on my phone? I rarely talk to ppl on messenger & have zero other social media accounts. I hope I'm not popping up anywhere regarding fb ugh. Yes it is an evil app!

I personally refuse to use FB messenger on my phone but if you must.....

    Do not sync your contacts
Turn off Location services (in your main settings, click privacy, click location, scroll down to Facebook app and select Never)

Also know that the app shows your contacts when you last logged on and forces "read receipts"........ so annoying and there is no way to turn these features off.

Also I'm not sure you could deactivate FB but still use the app. If you deactivate FB then the moment you use the app you will have reactived you entire account. If you deactivate your entire FB account then you would have no need to use the app either. I believe deactivating your account would close the account on all devices (desktop, mobile app, etc)
