    Default Cologne recommendations

    Hello all and happy 4th if you're in the US!

    I've realized that I'm sick to death of my cologne, which is Polo. I started wearing it like 15 years ago (or more maybe), and I actually don't really like it or Ralph. I just buy it out of habit. I don't want to get sprayed at Macy's with a bunch of crap, so I thought I'd bring it to the experts at SW.

    I'm a touch embarrassed to admit my cologne game is weak. I'm not sure what floral, spicy, etc results in.

    Any recs for colognes that are good these days? I'm ready to be bold :-) and thanks!

    Happy 4th to you!!
    Ok. I'd suggest going to Sephora/Ulta 'trying on' a couple ( probably no more than 2), & seeing (smelling) what YOU like! & what goes w/ your chemistry, sometimes popular stuff smells horrible on me. Tom Ford I like, but again check it out for yourself
    Sephora/Nordstrom are great about giving samples too.
    I like to shop http://www.beautyencounter.com, they've tons of stuff, you can buy mini sizes to try.
    Also, I just started looking:http://www.cbihateperfume.com

    Also, Ross for less & Marshall's carry some fragrances

    To be honest i NORMALLY hate cologne or perfume on people as so many just smell sooooooo chemically now. use a mineral salt deodorant rock utterly kill off the bacterial stink and let that sexy as fuck semi jerky like male pheromones do the rest

    that said, I will say when there HAS to be a little something, on men I really like a SMALL amount of acqua di gio, its sorta " aquatic" inspired and has a cool sorta refreshed scent.. Ive seen it at macy's so im sure its not hard to find at any place like that. ... or go for something something that has more of an earthy scent.

    with women i tend to be way more drawn to scent that is a mellow vanilla apricot or some other more natural fruit scented - i personally go with a vanilla myself

    Yes, the link Cb I hate perfume, was designed by NY cabbie that hated the chemical, sweet scents of his customers. He said most all of them made him feel sick.
    I never tried any, but they sound interesting, ex, 1966Coppertone a coconut, salty beachy scent

    Paco Rabanne - one million dollar man and Dior - Savage make me horny so .....
    but I cosign what whirlerz said you need cologne that matches with your body chemistry (different people sweat different and the mixes of stuff can be gross OR great lol)....don't spend less than $80 ...cheap cologne is disgusting and that's what makes people sick hehe

    You got some good advice to chew on, I'll give you some more...

    1) www.fragrantica.com is a good website for reviewing fragrances, and studying note category breakdown.

    2) One can feel saturated with the array of fragrances out there. May I suggest you tube fragrance reviews. Try going to my 2013 thread "Humor Break- You Tube Frags". Try the 2 YT links I provided. Some reviewers style may not be the cup of tea for everyone. My fave YT reviewers include My Mickers, Drac Doc, and Jeremy Fragrance.

    3) When going to dept. stores (Sephora, Macys) rep will probably throw a crap load of paper strip spray samples at you. Do not buy based on those. I'd narrow paper strip samples down to 2-4 finalists to be sprayed on your skin for an extended evaluation. I'd suggest your pulse points of 2 wrists, and 2 inner elbows if testing 4 fragrances. See how they behave after 1-2 hours (or if they even last that long on you.) I recall one that had a good honey sweet start, but dried down to a fertilizer/bug spray vibe. I'm glad I didn't spring for that one based on initial impression. Hth...............
    I'm right 96% of the time. I don't sweat the other 5% .......................

    I think you may need more than one cologne depending on the mood/setting where you wear it.

    For example when I wear fragrances I like to have fragrance that match the season (spring/summer scents, fall/winter scents), I also like to have casual or sporty scents, sexy scents, and formal/dressy/business type scents.

    Sadly Im not an expert at mens cologne but what helps me is going to sephora and browsing through their best selling scents. There will always be something you'll like but the downside is its popular so lots of other men will be wearing it too.

    Wow - cologne is more complicated than I thought :-)

    Ok, spend more than $80, check, that I can do, easy metric to memorize.
    Let it breathe (I think) by putting on your wrist for two hours;
    Rabanne - Million Dollar Man, Dior - Savage, Tabacco Vanille - Tom Ford, acqua di gio - Giorgio Armani;
    More than one;
    http://www.cbihateperfume.com; just went to this site - the names! "Wild Hunt", "Mr. Hulot's Holiday"
    Nordstroms - haven't been in there in months but I'll make time...
    minnow I'll check out your info, thanks
    Thanks everyone!

    Believe it or not, if you smell nice that goes a long way, maybe even as much as cash. I've never tested that :-) since I always smell nice but I've heard stories. If you have both, that's the best. How you smell and your sense of humor are the two things that get more credit than anyone thinks. Cash, we all know how that works!

    Yes, definitely wear it for @ least a couple hours, as fragrance has 3 notes: top, middle, & base notes.
    The latter is what it ultimately smells like, so you want make sure it's right for you.

    La Nuit de l`Homme - Yves Saint Lauren

    I don't know about anybody else but when I smell that stuff I go nuts. I can't even think straight when a man wears it. It's my absolute favorite cologne. It's on the pricy side though. I bought it for a nerdy guy friend of mine and he said he had a lot of female co-workers telling him that he smelled good and wanting to know what he was wearing. Armani Code is a 2nd favorite.

    I would recommend both Christian Dior Sauvage for Men and Teatro Olfattivo Di Parma. They are both sexy and manly smells
