    Default Vacation Thread

A couple weeks ago I got back from Los Angeles area! First time I've been there that you would consider it a vacation! Thought it would be interesting to talk about vacations and what you did to help possibly interest others on the place you went.

    Day 1
Slept in cause super tired from time change and lack of sleep. Went hiking on Ruyan Canyon although I didn't make it far lol. Bars on Hollywood Blvd
    Day 2
Visit Santa Monica and did window shopping. The Santa Monica Pier. Then to Venice Beach and enjoyed the smell of mary jane while walking!
    Day 3
Griffith Observatory. Checked out Rodeo Drive and drove around Beverly Hills. Bars around Silver Lake area
    Day 4
Drove down to Malibu and up the PCH some for views. Some drinking and food around Santa Monica
    Day 5
Hollywood Blvd again. Bought some stuff at Hustler Hollywood. More bars around Hollywood Blvd

The long flight home sucked but trip was worth it!

    Neat thread idea!

Ummm last vacation was mainly for Disneyland. We stayed outside of Anaheim. Pretty quiet aside from the last day.
Day 1, kinda just tooled around at Huntington Beach, spent a few hours drinking and eating seafood snacks at a neat little beach bar. I'll have to find the name.
Day 2, drove around more, ate at a tavern SO used to frequent (I wasn't impressed). He rented a board and played in the ocean, I got a pedicure. Later while he was napping I hit Downtown Disney, which is fun if you like shopping for their items. The Disney Store there and the art gallery are AWESOME. Later we went to a sushi joint and then a little country dive bar to play pool.
Day 3, Disneyland! Halloween decor was up and the Haunted Mansion was Nightmare-I-fied. I loved it. Had dinner at Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen which was fabulous.

I just got back from three weeks in the North East, and while it was fun and relaxing; I do not consider it a true vacation because I am there all the time. I did go to Gatlinburg last year on November, it was so fun!

Day 1- we got there early in the morning because we drove all night from Fla. My nephew had altitude sickness so I got them to let us check in early to our cabinet. While everyone else slept my sister and I went shopping and when we got back we went to downtown gatlinburg and toured all the distilleries. It was a really good time.
Day 2- we went hiking in the National Park, back to downtown for rooftop lunch and then called it an early night in the cabinet drinking and playing card games, while I started cooking for TG dinner.
Day 3- was Thanksgiving, got up early and walked around the woods where the cabin was, then ate outside by the creek. Afterwards we went into town and had some drinks.
Day 4- went to a llama farm, which was really cool, back into downtown for some shopping and to tour the other distilleries we missed on the first few days.
Day 5- we headed back and took our time, stopped in GA for some BBQ which was actually way out of the way.

I am planning a trip to Orlando and trying to plan a trip to London in late September. I will post those if and once I make them happen.

I might be going down to Orlando! My daughter is having a softball tournament down there so we are going to turn it into a vacation!

I went to Springfield, IL one year. It was there I learned that Abraham Lincoln is EVERYWHERE in that state. I also had something called a "horseshoe sandwich." It wasn't actually a sandwich, and should be called more aptly a heart attack sandwich, but I loved it. It looked like this:

That cheese on the fries was really good. Would have one again.

Took two trips this summer, Las Vegas and NYC

Vegas- saw Mariah Carey and Keith Sweat (he was AMAZING his voice is insane) obviously Mariah is everything. Everyday we went to the pool- did a happy hour at a fancy place (Emeril's, Milos, etc) went to a show then had a light bite and had some more drinks wandering people watching. Honestly it was relaxing and a blast.

NYC was work and vacation. After work was done did a weekend with my boyfriend. Nights we had dinner and drinks with friends in LES - Kiki's (Greek), Supper (Italian) then during the day we walked all over the city updating our running shoe wardrobes and going to museums Whitney, MEt, Guggenheim. Very romantic and not at all expensive. We stayed st a friends place while they were on the Greek Islands.

I just returned from Georgia. I drove through Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, and South Carolina. Tennessee has Pigeon Forge. I love that tourist area. They have a store there called Try My Nuts. I can't help but stop there every time I go through there. I love the Smoky Mountains. North Carolina has Cherokee, the Indian reservation, although it's westernized. They have a Cherokee Indian museum there that I found interesting, some neat little shops, and beautiful scenery. I'm in love with all mountain places. Georgia has a lot of waterfalls that I've been to and if you're feeling up to some exercise, there's an uphill(up mountain, really) hike up Stone Mountain. It's only 1 mile long, according to the guide but since you're walking upwards on a rocky terrain it feels a lot further than 1 mile. Some areas are very steep and I did fall once. It can get dangerously slippery if it rained. South Carolina has Clemson botanical gardens which are gorgeous and Bull Sluice(sp?). Bull Sluice has different hiking trails. One isn't that bad and leads to a little beach with shimmering mica sand. Tallulah Gorge in GA is awesome. I don't recommend any of the hikes unless you are in shape enough to handle it. Going down to the bottom isn't so bad but going back up can be hard and the time that I went, I seen 2 people that IMO had no business even attempting it but they did. They ended up having to be rescued. Clayton, GA has the best BBQ ribs I've ever eaten at a place called The Wicked Pig, pricey though. Helen, GA is a neat little Bavarian themed town. Those are all the places that come to mind right now.

Hiking trip in England. BF wanted to see some Battle of Britain sites, I thought it would be good for daughter to get some exposure to the greater world, I wanted to see the white cliffs. So, we hiked around southeastern England. Started and ended the trip with some time in London. Saw and heard Big Ben chime noon. Saw Westminster Abbey, changing of the guard, took a tour of Buckingham Palace, went to the National Gallery, Saw the Harry Potter musical. Out on the hike, we saw lots of WWII sites, saw lots of flowers and butterflies. In Dover, we rented a boat to see the white cliffs from the water. Then we hiked up from the town to the cliffs and along them. One day it was really, really clear and we could see France. We camped a few nights along the channel. Listening to the surf and the gulls was so relaxing.

Amazing! I need to see the white cliffs. I could stay in UK for 5 months and never do everything.

Can we post a question asking about a specific place if we are planning a trip, to see if anyone has tips? Or would you rather keep this thread to stories about vacations that have already happened?

My vote is that it's ok to ask about places ! The more travel talk, the better !
