Default Can you really make a good living stripping?

Hi, I am insterested in becoming a stripper. I currently work as a CNA and it's just not enough money for me to afford the lifestyle that I would like. I just have a few doubts. I've heard that the money in stripping isn't good anymore and strippers don't make as much as they used to! My real question is if it's POSSIBLE to make a decent living (50k-75k)stripping? I know that the amount depends on a lot of different factors like looks and location! Are there any strippers in this group making that? How long have you been dancing? Any advice would be great!

50k is only $1000 a week. This should be a very possible number to pull in most areas depending on how often you work.

I don't think too many girls are going to state what they make but unless you are in a really bad area for stripping your goals should be reasonable.

If you don't mind sharing where you're thinking of working then we could probably give more info.

Basically, you don't know till you try. Give a few shifts a shot and don't quit your day job till you know you can count on making some money.

Can I point out to OP that that's a gross figure and might be good for another job but that a stripper has to pay 30% or so in taxes? So grossing $50k you end up with $35k.

It's possible of course but it's not for everyone, I never advise anyone to quit their day job until they dance for a while and decide they can handle 3-5 nights a week of all the bullshit it brings.

Thanks for the response! I will be dancing in Detroit. According to stripper web, Detroit is one of the worst cities for strippers. I will give it a try, but I will keep my day job.

yah no I would not start dancing in detroit. I have heard it is very dirty there and so you will end up jumping into a lot of unknowns. You must have strong boundaries and integrity in yourself to sanely survive dancing any amount of regular time for years at a time too. It will change your personality. And it can change your life in a positive or negative way... its your choice. Just remember everything is what you make of it.

If i were you i would drive to chicago or surrounding areas to dance, not detroit.

If stripping didn't pay my bills and then some..without the need for a second job.there no way in hell I'd do it. I mean I enjoy it and all but it has a lot of downsides that the great money makes up for. But you can't go into it with a "I'm gunna stand around and slack off and get paid my hourly wage" mindset that you do with other jobs. It ALL depends on you.

    So many variables to consider.
    Location (with you mentioned)
    Club type
    Insurance
    Living within your means?

I've done this for many years and if I was not smart about my money I'd never be able to do it. It's easy to go out and spend money when you have some really good days/weeks but you always need to prepare for the days that will suck. That's why a lot of bars/restaurants go under cause they make so much in the beginning but don't save for slow times and when they have to replace equipment etc.

My friend is a CNA and from what I understand it's a good job to have because they will always need one. So I would at least look into still trying to do it to some capacity so you can always go back. Chances are you'll last longer doing that than dancing.

Go stripping and become a nurse if you are CNA. You can't strip forever, but saving money and advancing your career seems like a good idea.

There's a lady on here from Detroit, she's a clean dancer, & from what I can tell she does well..
However, I don't want to out her, maybe you can search in Club Chat for Detroit clubs, dancing clean in a dirty club etc
    Good luck!

    Yes.

I tried to leave my answer at simply 'yes' but this forum won't accept that few characters, lol.

Stripping is a goddamn goldmine, so long as you have the motivation to WORK

I think I do well but for me, 60k is really great even with all the expenses and saving money to get my net income down to 33k. However, you (and I) should be doing much better to make it worthwhile, which is why there is a lot of travel and my recent move. I've always had very low wage jobs, even with a couple of degrees and I grew up very poor. So my expectations are low.

But I think you can definitely do better financially than a CNA. Thing is: There are a lot of downsides to stripping and it will be up to you to decide whether the pros outweigh the cons. Detroit isn't known to be the best area to dance but if you can make it work for you, stay safe and sane, then perhaps it's worth 'a go.' Like everyone said, the location matters, whether it's the place where you work or the city.

There are so many different elements that go into making money at any endeavor.

How you look? How good of a dancer you are? How good of a hustler you are?

Do you shine on stage? Are you a star? Can you entertain & get money out of a crowd of men?

Then there is the club, the atmosphere, management.

Does the DJ know they are doing.

Just a quick post from me...

Lately I've been working on destroying this myth I've created about life that you need to make a ton of money in order to live well and retire comfortably. I don't make a ton of money, and I live in an area with a high cost of living.. but I started an IRA when I was 18, have always taken advantage of employer matching for 401ks, save money when I can, and buy things that I need and enjoy. The Simple Path to Wealth on Amazon is a great book for this mentality. I have a straight job with health insurance and 401k matching where I make okay money, and I have everything I need. I could dance on the side to help save even more, but that's not required.

I grew up thinking that I needed to be a doctor or businesswoman in order to get what I want in life. But I've realized recently that I don't even want 90% of the amenities that big money could afford me. I don't need a big house or lots of land - or the maintenance that comes with either! I don't need extravagant vacations.. Simpler things in life make me happy. My silly little cats, green tea, yoga classes, walks at night..

So I know this doesn't really answer your question, OP, and it's hard to compare a vanilla job to dancing. But I thought I'd comment just in case this mentality helps anyone..

Yeah, Detroit is really really rough! Lots of prostitution & drugs. Management & bouncers know it & don't care. They will literally just tell you not to leave behind evidence (condoms, etc) in the dance areas when they are giving you the tours. Try maybe Ann Arbor or a neighboring area....

Also, it's not that money is bad -it's just not what it used to be like 10-15 years ago. It's very hit or miss -so I would say don't start spending any of your take home earnings until you've got a few k saved as well as abit of a nest egg so when you hit those slow periods it won't hurt as bad as the girls that don't. Once you've got some cushion then you can moderately spend. Don't make the same mistakes that some of us did when were baby strippers. Plus, hang on to your regular job while your stripping -it will help maintain your sanity, your financial cushion during slow times & you wont have to worry about a work histroy gap later on down the road when your ready to get out. Good Luck!

With health care workers you're lucky because you can usually stack your shifts- work a bunch then take time off- try the one clean club in Detroit to start- if you can handle the work and make some $ then you can always travel dance and make substantially more! There are lots of girls with square jobs who use dancing to supplement their income.
