Default Bricklaying robots?! Any Blue Collar Custies Left in 5yrs?

Oh boy, just another good paying blue collar job among many that will be automated in 20yrs or less. Will we have enough customers? I mean this thing lays 3x the bricks a human can. And no more need for Latino workers either.

Think about the Luddites. They were (often violently) opposed to the mechanization of the textile industry, but when it happened it became not only possible but common for people to own more than one suit of clothes.

One new technology pops up more jobs are created.
Every town used to have a Cobbler. Some of you may not even know what that is.. A man who made shoes then shoes made on assembly lines. The East Coast of the U.S. Used to be textiles & shoe manufacturers.

Then due to things like Regulations & laws about child labor, minimum wage, over time pay, Unions, safe working conditions, lunch breaks. Companies eventually moved to countries where there weren't any.

Instead of a Cobbler, you bought shoes at the local General Store. General Stores were replaced by malls & shoe stores or Walmart.

    Each evolution brought more jobs.

much what sam said. the thing is, and its actually been an ongoing thing for several decades people like to gloss over. as tech advances? you dont train for jobs that are there, you train for jobs yet to be created. even with droid labor you will still need programmers, engineers, servicers etc. and the same thing could go for the energy and fuel area, it is a livelihood for people to have dangerous low paying jobs in like mines and such yes? it honestly takes very little time and effort to train, re-train, adopt processes to condition to working with the tech and practices of different options. In reality we have held ourselves back alot from advancing over the last generation or two ( also why the US for once has plummeted i the science and tech industry and is shockingly behind the times in large when it does come to alot of these sort of areas.) We may be falling behind? but its still a transitional phase we will NEVER loose working classes, they make too much money for their bosses and corporates and governments. But they will, and always have evolved since neolithic humanity started to settle down and form communities.

If you look hard enough you can still find a boot and shoe repairman, and he does not work over the internet.

Wait 20 years when we have self-driving cars and trucks. That's 20 million out of a job. Go to college people! Invest in yourself!

Programming & coding are taught in schools in Russia at very early age. I'm sure they are not the only country that does it.
It should be taught in America along with English, Math & Science. Starting in the 4th grade.

All text books should be replaced with a tablet, one that has all the books & exercises downloaded to it but no internet. Would save schools thousands & kids backs from heavy back packs filled with books. It will also save trees & the cost of buying school supplies for kids every year.

You don't have to go to college, due to technology there is plenty you can learn online for FREE.

Self driving trucks & cars sound like a great idea. Soon as one gets into an accident & people die. The court case will be huge & more likely the payout will be huge. Then all kinds of con artist will on purpose get hit by them. There are plenty of scammers now who target people in expensive cars for fender benders & such.

There is also theft. Say a truck, set up an accident & then empty the load. Or hackers who just reroute the trucks to a spot, steal the contents. Drugs, transporting drugs will also booming business with this kind of vehicle.

Self driving cars means someone else controls where you go, when you go there, and knows when you do it.

Has your computer ever locked up. What happens when that computer is controlling a car on a busy highway?

Well, I guess you'd need a robot (wearing a cowboy hat) that's programed to know when the cows are mmooing!

A few years ago a disgruntled (or maybe fired) loan company employee with access to the program the company uses that can shut down a car if the customer stops making payments, disabled ALL customers cars.

Yep and we never had to deal with a drunk driver or distracted driver either, right? When it is all said and done it's all a question of frequencies! Automation is inevitable. You will be assimilated.

Agreed but two points to counter what you said. First, most people lack the self-discipline to undertake a rigorous study on their own, secondly employers just love that shiny, new piece of paper called a diploma. And if you don't invest in yourself why should an employer?

And one final point, after you get that job plan on striking out on your own! Never build your sand castles on another person's beach.
