Especially for those ladies with children.

I live in a really low COL area but for many reasons don't want to dance in this area. Have been referred to a club in a more upscale area but it's two hours away. Know it will be good $$ but am worried about logistics. Curious how some of you other ladies manage. Thank you!

Bump. No kids and I'm not dancing right now, but I do commute quite a distance for a vanilla job and have a dog at home. My M-F commute is anywhere from 2-3 hours each day, depending on the mode of transportation. I commute from one big city to a bigger one, so I have several public transportation options. For me it's rough, but do-able. If I had to drive, I don't think I could do more than an hour each way. It's really a matter of how valuable your time is in comparison to the money you'll be making. Also, if you have kids, you'll need to make sure you have a lot of support from your SO/family/friends as far as child care arrangements/logistics. Just my two cents!

I've done this a couple times before and personally find it unsustainable over the long term. Other dancers I've known who try this strategy stay at a friends place close to the club or get a cheap motel so they can stay a few nights and make the trip worthwhile...not sure how that would work with kids. I say try it for now but keep your eyes and ears open to see if you can find somewhere closer.

Second what @lurkingtitties said on the sustainability - I often stay in the city I work in with my brother who is nearby, and have even booked myself an airbnb room for a few days at a time to save myself the commute time. Also, traveling that distance for a vanilla desk job is probably MUCH more sustainable than for dancing (long hours, nights, on your feet all the time, etc.)
