Default Sweden laws on prostitution. I think US needs smth similar

In Sweden criminal charge is for buying sex services, but not for selling them. Therefore, women in this industry are decriminilized. I think USA need that model. What are your thoughts?

Yes, I agree. The whole thing is prudish and stupid. I remember when RI discovered that prostitution was legal as long as performed indoors (law has since changed) one of the biggest arguments was that it kept girls (and boys) off the streets; which is true. Since weed is starting to become legalized and decriminalized, maybe this is the next logical step.

this would help many victims of human trafficking. weird i just saw an article today about a woman and how hard she has struggled in her life since escaping being trafficked because she basically gets treated like a criminal instead of a victim and has to live with those charges on her record forever

Absolutely! Texas laws are strict in regard of prostitution, and yet Dallas is city number one in the nation for human trafficking. The fact that a woman would face charges for prostitution gives even more control on her in sex industry.

Nah, both sides need to be decriminalized to truly keep women safe, especially the most vulnerable. When buying sex is illegal, street workers have to make split second decisions whether to jump in their car or not. Clients will only meet in locations where they are absolutely sure they won't be caught. Which means if they decide to get violent against the provider, it's likely he'll get away with that as well.
And on top of that they STILL end up charging women with things, because the police and the justice system still hate sex workers. Like, we have this in Canada, and you won't get charged with "selling sex" per se but they'll find some other charge to give you. Like soliciting too close to a church. Or charging your husband with "living off the avails". Until sex work is fully legal it's just another layer of bullshit.

That "living off the avails" formula is very interesting. Is it only in Canada?
Also, I think this hate for sex industry is a manifestation of hate for women overall. Witchcraft or sex industry -men would always find a way to victimize women.

It's for sure in Canada, i'm not really familiar with how they prosecute in other countries. But yeah, basically anybody who could benefit from your sw income is p much your pimp in the eyes of the law.

You're totally right on that. All throughout human history it's ridiculous stuff based on oppressing women one way or another.

I think it needs to be decriminalized or at the very least legalized for both parties. I believe that men could be just as easily victimized in the industry. Also, when something is illegal, it makes sense that other illegalities come into the mix.

Which basically reinforces women in sex work to be single and only male contact they have is with clients.

I cant understand the logic behind selling sex to be legal but buying it to be illegal?!? Is this a way to drive sex workers out of business? It just seems like a flawed concept.

I think that the Swedish model aims not to drive sex workers out of business, because prostitution is still ILLEGAL. Instead of criminalazing sex workers in order to stop prostitution, they criminalize those who is buying it. The point is it does not legalize prostitution, but apply criminal penalty in different way.

I still think it does aim to drive sex workers out of business, they just go about it sideways. Their idea is sw are just victims with no other options because nobody would willingly do sw. But get rid of the clients, and how can sw make an income? They'll be forced to get "real jobs". In the eyes of misogynist lawmakers, the solution is that simple.

^^^^ Also sw are forced to attend "re-education camps" in sweden and they do receive a form of "record" with social services tantamount to a police record. ITS THE SAME SHIT.
