    Default Hair Question

Okay so I dont know if any of you ladies on here have any experience in hair coloring/styling or have done cosmetology on the side. But even if not, it doesn't matter, I'm sure you can still help me. So last November I got the top of my hair colored purple and my stylist accidently left it on for too long and it over processed. So some of the hair on the top of my head fell out, but it did not effect the overall length or thickness of my hair. It just looked like I cut a few pieces of the back of my hair shorter. It was really short in November, like literally looked like little sprouts coming out of the top of my head in the back. But my hair is long and thick and the way I styled it helped disguise it. I was PISSED at my stylist for not telling me! But I stupidly kept going back to her to color my hair, which I had her dye back to its normal blonde color.

Luckily, she did not do any more damage to my hair and my little sprouts have grown out a lot. But it looks SO awkward when its growing out! Almost like I have choppy layers on the top of my head and its NOT a good look for me! I've decided to let my hair grow out and stop coloring it for a while so that it grows more and becomes more healthy. I'm naturally brunette so getting it colored blonde is not the healthiest thing for my hair every month (although my hair is in pretty healthy shape for dying it blonde so much). Anyway, my stylist told me that I should get the base color a little bit darker if I'm going to let it grow more because the new growth will be counterproductive if I'm trying to grow my hair longer (it will just make my ends shed and it wont grow that long)...wtf??! It makes sense that coloring my hair darker will make it blend better with my dark roots, but why would coloring it darker help it grow more?? I think not coloring it at all for another month or 2 would be better for its growth. and maybe just trimming off the dead ends every now and then. I dont care if my hair is gonna look a little brassy or trashy with the dark roots and the blonde, I actually think its kind of a hot look on me lol.

I think my stylist knows that I'm probably gonna stop going to her and find someone else, so she wants to get more money out of me while she still can (by having me let her dye it darker). I do plan on finding a new stylist, but my question is this; am I right or is she right? Dying it darker will not be better for its growth, not coloring it AT ALL for another 2 months or so will be. But she says dying the base a little darker will help with its growth. Even if she is right, I'm still going to find someone else to do it. And by the way, I hate the way dark hair looks on me! I was meant to be blonde, it suits me so well. I dont want to color my hair darker and then have to dye it back to blonde and do even more damage that way. What do you guys think?

    Mind Blowing Re: Hair Question

OMG, I had a major meltdown about 8 months ago, for much less..I got highlights, I liked her work, went back for root outgrowth touch up, & she way over darkened my hair, I stupidly let her correct it, then she way over highlighted it!
Reported her to state cosmetology license board.
Anyway, right after she did the last botch job I asked her if I'd still have hair.
I let my hair grow out 4 months, (it was winter, wore hats a lot, also used a temporary touch up) I had a couple trims ( more than I wanted)
I also saw a dermatologist, she said my scalp's ok but I have to use shampoo w/no perfume etc, & my scalp still gets irritated.
I use coconut oil, & pure aloe to help w/that.
I would NOT go back to her, I do as I suggested, & see a dermatologist, or @ least consult w/ a different stylist, different salon
Go to a master or high level color specialist
I can't stand fuckin people who do this to someone hair
I don't like darker hair on me either
Anyway, good luck & take care

Thank you Whirlerz, you brought up a lot of good points. I like the idea of using shampoos with no perfumes/fragrances in them and using coconut oil and aloe vera. I'm gonna try to get my hair as healthy as possible and I've made up my mind that I will never see this woman again! What she did was so f*cked up, I cant stand hair stylists who ruin people's hair!

Yeah, I would not go back to her. It's time to baby your hair and scalp, like Whirlz says, and find a different stylist asap. I wish I had more advice for ya, but I'm a color virgin.

Right! I got my shampoo from Target, it's called Free & clear, you get by the pharmacy, no prescription needed but they may have to Order for you
I also like for root touch-ups, Everpro Gray Away, I use lightest brown medium blond. My hair's a level 9 or so & this looks very Natural, a little darker but not much. Very ez to use, washes out, no real dye in it. From Ulta
I'd report her ass but that's up to you.
Good luck, if u want I list some of my conditioners next post, I baby my hair lol

Whoa do not go back to this girl. Follow your instincts. If you dye the base dark and decide you wanna be blonde again you will mess your hair up. My stylist wants to cry every time she gets a bottle blonde girl who decided to go back to her dark natural hair color, hated it, and goes back to blonde. I go to a Mexican hair salon and most of these girls have dark bases like level 1-2 and i have seen the state of their hair after going back to blonde and it is not pretty.

Also if you plan on being all over blonde in the future do not get highlights, balayage, ombre, or even a shadow root. These techniques are great if you wanna grow out your blonde gracefully but if you ever wanna go back to "all over blonde" your stylist will have to go in between the lightened pieces and it is time consuming and risky because she might overprocess the light pieces. Also when I first went to my stylist I had a funky top layer from damage and she layered my hair in a way that grew out beautifully. When that top layer of breakage was long enough, we cut my hair into a blunt bob but I ended up missing the waves from my layers and asked her to cut the layers back in.

I got lucky with my stylist. She was open to direction and listens to what I want. My hair has been growing out healthy as a platinum blonde. My roots are dark at level 2. She is cheap but i tip her very well. She also orders olaplex for me. Since you dont have a cosmetology license order the No. 3 from their official site.

Also when you decide to get your roots done again, ask the stylist to foil your roots or put a sort of barrier between your roots so they dont touch the damaged hair. My stylist also puts deep conditioner on my hair that isnt getting bleached so any bleach run off won't affect it.

A lot of stylists and salons have their own set way of doing things but if u can find someone fresh out of cosmetology school or someone who is open to direction from you, they can keep your hair healthy. My girl has gotten even more popular ever since people have seen how great my hair looks because most latinas can only dream of having healthy hair this light. So hopefully u can find someone. I'm so sorry you are going through this. Do not go back to her. Good luck

I like Juice Organics repair hair mask, it's very mild & gentle. Also from Target
You can leave it in overnight if want.
I even have put it near my scalp, bc I'm so dry

I do not have professional cosmetology experience but I know a thing or two and have been mostly coloring my own hair for the past few years (going to a salon on occasion) and I know a little bit....

Dying it darker will not help it grow. However, if you use a deposit hair color it may help the hairs appear thicker and healthier which may, depending on your hair's texture make the broken hairs blend better or fall flatter. You can probably also trim it less often if it is darker. You may be able to achieve this with a color that is close to your natural color but is deposit only OR using a clear gloss. I buy Jazzing by Clairol in clear at Sally's. It is like $6.00 around here.

I had a lot of breakage about 8-9 years ago because I had extensions for a long time (strand on strand) in addition to bleaching and it was damaging my hair a lot which I was unaware of because my stylist kept telling me the hair was growing.

When I finally took them out, I died my hair a medium brown and wore a fake ponytail to work for like 6 months. I honestly do not like those things or think they look particularly good but it did help me grow my hair to at least the point I could layer it.
