My cousin Allie, her bf and her little dog are sheltered in a baptist church are doing okay. She is missing her dog because the dog can't inside with them. Dog have to stay in a kennel, but she's grateful that they're okay. Thanks to everyone for the good wishes.

And the electricity is still working in those traffic lights? Is the city able to turn things like that off?

Years ago when I was a young dumb teenager we'd get inner tubes and makeshift rafts to float around the neighborhood. Granted it was nothing like Houston but it was all fun and games until some old man pointed out we were playing around in raw sewage. And 20 feet away live power lines were down just waiting for us to float on by. And then there were water moccasins and gators from canals and marsh lands. I'm truly lucky to be alive.

That's good to hear. I'd be so upset if I were separated from my furbaby. At least she didn't abandon her baby like so many others do in times like this.

Let's hope someone can rescue those pets...Meanwhile, I think we've found something even worse than alligators. Ants. Fire ants. By the billion.

GET OUT NOW! Levee breaches south of Houston as flooding continues http://www.cnn.com/2017/08/29/us/har...ana/index.html

Heres a better article on the dams overflowing. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-41081629 A damn shame that the BBC does better reporting on American events than CNN does. CNN creates a salacious heading and then fails to report on the contents of the damn heading. Like the levees overflowing. SMDH

"According to meteorologist Jeff Lindner, between 20 and 30 percent of Harris County is under water as of Tuesday afternoon.

Harris County is 1,777 square miles. Let's take the low end of Lindner's estimation -- 20 percent. That would be 355.4 square miles.

    Or:

Bigger than the entire city of Austin.
Bigger than 15 times the size of Manhattan, which is about 23 square miles.
Bigger than 7 times the size of San Francisco, which is about 47 square miles."

Wow, I'm right on the 50 yard line, but I'm extremely lucky. I live in a Houston, Galleria area Hi-Rise, basically at Sage Rd and Richmond. The area flooded, as did the lobby of my building. But none of the condo units took on water, and after losing power for about 8 hours on Saturday, it was restored on Sunday.

Today, I went to the Walmart on S Rice, and bought a bunch of groceries. I chuckled, because I hadn't bought as much in 20 years, since I always eat out. But, I'm gonna hunker down for a week or so, and stay in pretty much.

The big danger now is the overflowing of Bayous and levees, as Rivers drain. Some areas haven't even had the worst of it. Again, I'll say I'm fortunate since the Storm is over ( physically, at least, for me ). When it gets sunny and driving is better, which will be Thursday or Friday, I'll go over to Lakewood Church, which is very close to me and has been made into a shelter, and try to help and volunteer.

I see that my neighbors have bonded more than ever ( in my building ), and there is a lot of TV viewing in the common areas and feeding of those that didn't prepare. I'll post on the scene, if I see anything unusual or interesting.

Finally, I'll say that Harvey has been DEVASTATING People are dying ( and continue to die ), and the property damage is simply unimaginable.

hope all in houston are well.
reading in the WaPo that the rain that had fallen as of yesterday amounted to a cube 2 miles a side. Amazing

Met a couple here who were delayed going home, were planning on flying to Austin and waiting and getting a rental car. Interesting speaking with them. To them a certain level of flooding is 'normal' like bad snowstorms here. Basically the streets are flooded, shrug. But 50 inches of rain is beyond the pale. There is no way to plan for that.
