Man, sending some love your way. My coworker has been trying to get her abuela out of Puerto Rico and it's been a nightmare for them. It sucks here but I feel so bad for those of you with families in the islands.

Amen to the beer! A true Floridian indeed We use to get a keg and let it float in the pool when we ran out of ice during a storm. Don't forget to fill your tub with water beforehand. Wrap all sharp objects and try to lock them up somewhere. Even things outdoors like flag poles and shovels. If the wind rips through your yard or a window that shit becomes a projectile. Oh and if you have a pool drain some of the water in case it overflows from too much rain. Stay safe guys.

This is the latest I found on how & where it'll hit. you can see the wind speeds indicated by color.

OK just a little nervous now he he. But I'll be damned if I'm leaving this late. The gas stations are all empty, and all I will wind up doing is running away endlessly with the goddamned storm chasing me the whole way. Then it'll take fucking forever to get back, because the road from Homestead will be blocked for quite a while.

The cats that live around the club complex have many hidey spots and should come through OK, if Irma misses Key West. But she's scared of all the other cats (which is why she lives in the fence poor thing).
Ok now I am even more sad. I was sad before for everyone in FL, but I wasn't considering all the animals that will inevitably die. I'm in Korea right now so all I have to worry about is a nuclear war.

Djoser man I can tell you're not going to leave no matter what anyone says, and I'm sure that 200 mile 2 lane bridge isn't fun right now anyway, so here is wishing you best luck, and please for craps sake check in.

Good luck DJ. It might be a good idea for you to lay your hands on whatever additional canned goods you still can as you could be stranded there without power for a long time.

I am far north and east of you and I'm taking off. My area of FL that was heavily impacted by Matthew, with flooding and extended power outages even though Matthew was 90+ miles offshore. I have no interest in being here when one drops right on our heads, even one that will be weakened by land travel.

You are in a bit different situation though. If I didn't have kids or dire need of power and Internet access to keep my business up and running, I would probably ride it out too. The beautiful thing about living in FL is that one can live without electricity for a long time so long as one still has access to food and drinking water. But given the current track of the storm, you may need to plan on an extended period of time without access to food services, so your current inventory may not be enough.

Anyway, good luck and keep us posted!

If you're being evacuated and have food in your freezer, here's a way to tell if the freezer lost power for any extended length of time while you were gone:

Cut to yesterday, and he's shitting his pants with fear.
No disrespect to anyone who decides to stay,.,...... But if I knew an earthquake of catastrophic magnitude was going to happen in 5 days from now, I'd get the F..K out!

Djoser, Monroe county has buses running that will get you and take you to a shelter. It's not too late.

Ha! Orlando, that's where the other DJ from my club took his family for 'shelter'. From what I've read, Irma will be only Category 1 by the time it hits there, which is like 'Partly cloudy, chance of showers' compared to the beast about to hit here.

    36 hours to go.

I'm watching those Euro projections closely, to see whether to make a run for the concrete condo.

Yeah not terribly worried here in Orlando, at worst we lose power for a day or so.

Yeah, exactly. We have enough water and food for a week just in case but we didn't even lose power for Matthew. I'm just being careful because I remember being without power during all three of the hurricanes that hit in 2004. I am worried about our friends and family who are scattered all over the state. No matter where it hits someone I care about is going to be affected.

Relatives in the Dominican Republic are safe. Now I'm just waiting to see if the people I know who are staying will be okay in Miami. Most have already gotten out but there are still a few say they're staying and I just don't understand why? The first time I came to the US was a week before Andrew and I almost got blown away. I remember my neighbor grabbed me by my hair. Thank God For Afros! When it was all over our roof was gone and so was most of the neighborhood. This was South Miami near Homestead. The people who are staying went through Andrew. They remember it but still won't leave?

Exactly. I just checked in with a buddy of mine who used to be my neighbor in LA.
He texted me a photo of his boarded up windows.
He said that he lives a 30 minute drive from Miami. That the hurricane will go west of him.
    Huh? I'm soooooo confused.
I have the weather channel on all day, and they are talking about this event as though it were Armageddon.

I was in Florida during Andrew also (was around 70 miles from Homestead) and even though my area only got minor damage will never forget the eerie feeling in the air, almost as if the storm was alive and evil, *shivers*. It blows my mind that anyone near the path who witnessed that would not get out if they possibly could. I can understand not wanting to sit in that traffic now at this late hour though.

Accuweather posted a comparison photo and description (Andrew image superimposed at the top, Irma is the lower one).

There is still time to evacuate. The Keys are going to be completely destroyed. "It's not clear that it's a survivable situation for anybody that is still there in the Keys."

    Please get out now!!!
