    Default Sewing / fashion design

    Anyone else into sewing/fashion design?

I started sewing little purses/condom totes and I'm really enjoying it! I bought a used sewing machine and I've taken one formal sewing class. A dancer friend sew together sometimes when we hang out.

I wanted to share my latest project

I made this 16x16" pillow using my sewing machine!

Do any other ladies sew, design, craft etc??

I used to sew and make costumes, clothes, pillows, etc all the time. Was great fun. I even sold stuff at the club to the dancers and on eBay.
No room for projects now with the kids and dude in the house. >:
    I miss it. <3

Thumbs up Re: Sewing / fashion design

I Never was a good sewer, but I love love fashion, majored in it..
I took a college class, Fashion Inspiration or something (been a while) we had to 'design' out fits for various figure types using pics from magazines.
We also had our 'colors' done, had complete measurements, (arms, legs, neck, along w typical measurements)
    I got A+, & still have/treasure my binder w/all my assignments.
I have some tops & other stuff I've 'redesigned'
I need to go get a machine & take classes
I love Michael's, I got some fabric glue to patch jeans

That's so cool, Whirlerz! Do you have a JoAnn's nearby? They have sewing classes. I managed to find a used Singer sewing machine at Goodwill for $17! If you can't find an affordable machine, JoAnn's provides them during the sewing classes

Yea, there's also a indie sewing shop, it's closer, I'm pretty sure they have classes

    Great cushion!

I used to love playing around with fabric and my sewing machine but I was never any good at it. When I moved out of my parents house they threw out all my fabric etc. so it has been many years since I last sewed and I miss it. Don't have the space for it in my tiny apartment just now.

It's a good distraction from stress, anxiety etc.

I used to way back in high school in my fashion class...I loved it! It was the best class I ever took lol. I wasn't great at it, the teacher had to assist me a lot, but I felt soooo proud of myself when I made my first pair of pajama pants! I would really like to get back into it, maybe take some lessons. Having creative hobbies always brings me joy!

OMG, I drove my sewing teacher in college NUTS!
I had a difficult time understanding even the easy patterns..
There was a lady in the class, she helped me a lot, she came from way far to the school.
She made all her son's & hub's clothes except underwear
I still have my left scissors
Knitting is supposed to help w/depression.. I even knitted a crappy sweater, I bought an ex kit somewhere it was hell but I finished it

Do you still have your sewing machine? Yeah, sewing is a good form of stress relief. I feel a sense of accomplish when I finish a project...even if its not perfect looking I'm still beginner level. An elderly woman showed me her purse and it was so decked out - she even had her name embroidered into it!

Thats so awesome! I've never tried knitting or crocheting. I imagine once you're skilled enough, you can just zone out and knit while watching tv or something

I'm taking my second sewing class today! I made a 16x16 envelope pillow (the cowboy one) in the first class and today I'll learn to make a 3 seam bed pillow. I haven't quite decided on the pattern yet...I'm thinking zombie pin up girl though or a Halloween or Christmas pattern. Will post my finished project!

I used to make all my own pajama pants and they all had matching pillows and bags, some had slippers as well, made from the same fabric. Just find a simple pattern with a elastic waist, its not too bad, honestly i think they are easier than tops or any other type of pant. (Zippers can be a real [email protected]#$)

I think one of best parts of sewing was being able to make endless cordinating pieces! :3

I made this Christmas 3 seam pillow case in my second sewing class today! What do you guys think? The red trim is a bit wonky but I think I did a good job for a first attempt! I learned how to sew a French seam with this project.

    Thank you, guys!

Today is the last day JoAnn's has 50% off flannel cotton fabric so I stocked up (I mean, went a bit crazy). I got a bunch of plaid colors to make christmas stockings with and a yard of fuzzy white polyester fabric for the trim.

If anyone wants to buy a custom Christmas hoe stocking, let me know XD

They always leave something out of those patterns assuming you would know. Have had the same issue even with the easiest of patterns. Both of my Grandmothers sewed, knitted & needlepoint. I've been to sewing Bees. My sister makes quilts professionally, I don't have the patience and can't stand the mess of fabric, needles that has to have a huge space until the project is done.

I've made costumes in the past, now just order what I want off of Amazon. I know that Tera Patrick makes all her own costumes for feature dancing.
