Sorry if this seems totally weird but I was wondering how most of you greet new customers? Do you shake hands or try to jump right into a hug or some other means of immediate physical contact?

I tend to shake hands and say my hey my name is... I try to limit the physical contact to a minimum including sitting on laps.
whats up motherfucker!

Walk up and say hi while putting my hand on their shoulder
Smile, say hi, shake hands.

I am pretty good at reading people so my approach can be different with different people. I wouldn't use the same "opening line" with a young dude by himself as I sould an older gentlemen with a group or a couple.

Guy by himself..
Hey, how are you?
I'm XXX, whats your name?
*shake hands*
I don't sit down next to them unless I get a very strong feeling that they'll be spending lots of money. Otherwise my style is very, very quick. Pretty much ask for a dance as I'm shaking their hands.
How would you greet a good friend? How would you greet someone you're comfortable and casual with?
Your greeting will set the tone so I keep it cool, short, and casual.
"Hey I'm ----, what's your name?"
And then I ask to sit at their table. If they say yes, which they usually do, I pull up a chair and the rest is history. If you say things with confidence, the custies worth your time won't try you. They know you're the boss and they'll be respectful.
And, like arielbriel said, I keep physical touch to a minimum.
"I'm in charge. I know what I'm doing. And nothing about me is free." is the tone I set from the get-go.

I don't even ask if I can sit down or if they want company. Too easy to say no to. You can pretty much tell if they're interested you or not pretty quickly by their body language and what they say. If they give one word answers to everything or aren't talking much, they're probably not interested (but not always-they could be just shy.) If they're engaging in conversation with you and looking right at you instead of looking at the stage or looking around the club at the other girls, they're probably interested.
I just introduce myself, ask where they're from and what they like to do when they're not at work or the strip club. If they're local, I ask if they've been to the club before. If they're from out of town, I ask what brings them to town and what the strip clubs are like where they're from. I don't sit in their lap right away-too easy for the grabby guys to try to cop a feel this way.

THIS! Thurs-sat this is my tactic- ask these questions leaning across their table with my boobs looking booby. If they can answer simple questions looking me in the eye not looking around then I'll either sit if the dude reeks of money or seems extremely shy, (talk for max half a song at the table) or I'll directly ask to dance. If the customer is not focused on me I do not ask him for a dance. I say, it looks like you're getting settled, have a good time tonight. I do not like to be turned down by someone who I don't think is ready. This leaves the door open for them to call me over later or come find me. I have an innocent girl next door look so this works for me. I can't pull off dominatrix stripper- I don't care if you don't want a dance thing. I also don't ask the people I sit down with for a dance- it's hard to explain but when the conversation lulls instead of asking them more about themselves i just stare at them pointedly and fiddle with my bra. That usually does the trick. If it doesn't I get up to leave then THAT usually does it.
