Default Botox and Fillers and Any skin treatment: Is it tax deductible?

Do any of you girls deduct any beauty treatments on your taxes? It might make sense to deduct a tiny amount that is fits the proportion that you are at work relative to not at work, especially if anyone on management staff can support your need to get botoxed/injected in the event of an audit.

I wouldn't take the chance. I WISH I could deduct the cost of PS and other cosmetics from taxes but from what I've heard it's very risky.... audit trigger for "housewive" supplies.

I'm sure you could, but I'd ask your accountant.

@Ariel Did your accountant say it makes sense to do so? Do you deduct a portion, or the whole thing? I've been using turbotax...

Yes, he does and the entire amount. I need my looks to be profitable, that's how we feel and I haven't had any problems yet. Six years strong but I must say my income and deductions are proportionate which is important.

mine has no qualms, he's very deduction happy. and i truly do most of my PS and treatments strictly work related. even massages etc. wouldn't be so necessary so i think i have the right to deduct.

There are two ways you can possibly deduct Botox treatments.

First, if you itemize, your uninsured medical expenses that exceed 7.5% of your adjusted gross income. This is a fairly substantial threshold to meet, but if you have lots of medical in a year, it might pass an audit.

Second, if you can prove the Botox was medically necessary to carry out your trade or business, then it would be included on the additional expense line on Schedule C. That means you have to report income on Schedule C to begin with. The expense has to be in line with your reported income, and, you have to show that without the medical treatment your income would have suffered. My best thought along those lines is if you can show an increase in income the for the year of the treatments contrasted with prior years with no treatments and lower income. But, there needs to be a big increase.
