I have been seriously considering stripping as a means to fast-track some of my financial goals. I currently work night shifts in an office, taking home enough to support myself, and while I could continue to do so it'd take me about 2 or more years of strict budgeting to earn enough to buy a car, fill out my savings account, buy a desperately needed new computer, etc. I have a budgeting spreadsheet and my savings plans all ready to go!
But I was talking to a friend (who is not a stripper, but has a few friends who do it) the other day and I mentioned I was thinking of stripping. She said, "You wouldn't make any money, I'm afraid. All my friends who are strippers are on Centrelink (unemployment welfare payments, about $500 or so a fortnight) and have other jobs, too. The industry's gone to shit."
I've spent the past few weeks basically downloading Stripperweb into my brain and I was therefore surprised by my friend's comments. Stripperweb has led me to believe that if you're smart about it and have good hustle, you can still make great money in this game even though things aren't as lucrative as they were a few years ago. If stripping pays so poorly, why would you bother with it while receiving welfare AND having another job? And then there's the fact I know my friend's friends buy $600 dresses, which aren't really affordable when you only have a part-time secretary job supplemented by welfare (unless you're bad at budgeting? Idk).
We are in Melbourne, which is one of the best cities in Australia to strip in.
Ideally I'd like to cut my current work down to 1 or 2 nights a week (just to stay grounded in the real world), and strip 2-3 nights a week. But would it be worth it for my financial goals?
