They probably actually liked him when he was still relatively young, like in the 1960s & 70s, when Playboy was in its glory days and the 'sexual revolution' was fresh. He would have been 51 in 1977. Kind of a cutoff point, even for women who like older men. But yeah, the last 25 years, he was living an illusion that few men could ever dream of. I don't feel sorry for the women--except maybe all the dumb rules lol--they knew exactly what they were getting into, or rather, what was getting into them (sorry)
Sure it's terrible, but if someone is 91 years old, it's going to happen anytime. I'm not going to lose any sleep worrying about poor Hugh.

But I apologize if my cynical attitude bothers you. Been working in the clubs too long, seen a lot of people die, much younger than 91.
I know you were looking for solace here, and we haven't delivered.
But damn he sure lived about as happy a life as any man could want. 99% of all men who ever lived would gladly have traded lives with him.![]()

Someone posted this on twitter last night "Hugh Hefner non-consensually published nudes that endangered Marilyn Monroe's career & then purchased the right to be buried with her corpse"
Turns out its partially true. He's going to be buried next to her plot. http://www.tmz.com/2017/09/28/hugh-h...arilyn-monroe/

I am pretty solid in my "feminist" views and do personally have mixed feelings about his and the magazine's treatment/objectification of women; I feel like the sexual liberation movement helped women more than hurt them. I thnk Hef played a big part in allowing women to own and profit off of their sexuality and everyone on this site (except a few trolls) should tip their hat.
A Lot of female celebrities launched their careers via Playboy. Back in the day the Bunnies at his clubs and on his planes made VERY good money, outearning most men in a field (entertainment) that by and far (with few exceptions) still has a lot of pay disparity. Djoser is right about the double standard with his personal relationships HOWEVER: these women all knew the deal and agreed to the arrangement. Also, he likely didn't want the women he was dating to be caught fooling around with other dudes to tarnish his image of being the ultimate "playboy". This is just my opinion of course.
Also, he played a VERY big role in the civil rights movement, which is something most people that are in the age groups on this site do not realize. He would book black comics and musicians in his clubs and featured them on his show (the one before Playboy after dark) in a time when segregation was still very real, even if illegal. Hell, we still have "urban/ black clubs" and "mixed clubs" and there are dozens of threads here to prove this right. He also featured an AA playmate of the month in 1965. While it was not until the 1990's that they had the first woman of color as PMOTY (correct me if I am wrong, I am not googling any of this info); we have to remember in the 1990's and until maybe 15-18 years ago; the standard of beauty in the US was tall, blonde, thin, big breasts, light eyes and long legs. Hef didn't buy into this crap.
These things to me, are a bigger indication of what kind of person he was than his personal sex life with consenting adult women.
He was also a big defender of the first amendment. Love him or hate him, he did do a lot of things with his life for the short time he was with us and he was a good businessman. Very few people who had close personal relationships with him have negative things to say about him. I mean, who lets an ex-lover get married at their house? May he rest in peace.

Here's more on his support for civil rights:

Hefner was no saint BUT he did do a lot of good. From integrating his clubs and hiring black comedians and performers to perform before white audiences ( Dick Gregory ; Richard Pryor et. al. ) to staunchly defending the First Amendment, groups like NORML not to mention publishing some excellent work by great authors. And a lot of other good works.
His lifestyle post - Kimberly was part marketing and partly real.
Towards the end before he married Crystal, his girlfriends were taking benefits to sleep with a guy who was inter alia deaf as a post and incontinent.
There were "rules " for his girlfriends but most of them had real boyfriends on the side and some quietly escorted. As long as they didn't flaunt anything , and played lovey dovey when they were with him they could stay with him. ALL left him sooner or later. Most stayed friendly with him and were welcome back at the Mansion.
