    Default identity

Hi everyone, I just have a little quick question. When going to work in a club (in London U.K.)is it normal to be asked to give your real I.D to the manager for them to store on file?Or do they not usually ask for identification and you go by your stripper name to them too? I'm just concerned about protecting my identity and privacy . Thanks for your help xxxxx

I can't comment on London specifically but in most areas clubs will take a copy of your id.
Some places it's a legal requirement, club needs to have proof you aren't underage, etc.
Generally if most clubs in an area ask for id and one doesn't, it's a red flag that it is probably a sketchy club.

Management etc will still call you by your dancer name whether they have your real one on file or not.

It's par for the course for the manager to check and photo copy your ID. First, they have to make sure you're of legal age. Second, they have to make sure you're allowed to work in the country. It's pretty normal in any workplace to prove your identity (and right to work, if applicable).

After that, you can expect the manger to refer to you by your dancer name, so your identity will be protected from other dancers, staff, and customers.

Thank you so much for your replies. I'm really sorry I didn't reply back earlier, I actually didn't realise I had managed to post this successfully haha. Ok that's great to know. Will they also ask for your account details and national insurance number? Also I'm thinking I want to protect my identity as much as possible. Would using a fake I.D be a bad idea? X

Some US clubs ask for SIN #. I haven't come across a Canadian one that has. Unsure of the UK.

They'll never ask for bank account details (I assume that is what you mean by account?) unless they are trying to pay you by direct deposit which would be very unusual for a strip club. Even places I have worked where you do get a paycheck, it is either a literal cheque or just cash in an envelope.

Using a fake id is illegal, so don't try that. If you need to protect your identity/hide a stripping career that much maybe you should reconsider if this job is for you. It's very hard to fly completely under the radar anymore.

There are European clubs that pay direct deposit, though not so much in the UK. In those cases it would not be unusual to provide bank account details, same as you would for any other job.

OP -- You sound excessively paranoid. No one at the club is trying to steal your identity or out you. I'm not sure which (if not both) you're concerned about in terms of protecting your privacy, but SuperJa is right that maybe dancing isn't right for you. You can do everything possible to keep dancing a secret but you can't control who walks into the club and sees you. You really do not have to worry about having your identity stolen any more than in any other field though. Most clubs nowadays have a paper trail for all employees, including dancers, and follow the same laws that other employers do for hiring to make sure you're both of age and have the legal right to work.

You can't ask us if committing fraud is okay & perfectly acceptable. Strip clubs are LEGAL businesses that have to get all kinds of licenses, obey zoning laws & pay taxes. You are acting like they are operating illegal & are criminals themselves.

If the ones you are considering are ran by the mob, then don't work there.

This assumption that everyone in adult is a criminal & thus okay for you to hand them a fake ID is WRONG! Cause it the LAW you will be getting in trouble with and just not the club.

If you think it is all a criminal ring then why would you want to work there in the first place?
