Cows are forced to stand in their own excrement every day. They are forcibly impregnated against their will so that they can continuously produce milk. Farmers shove their fist up a cow's vagina to artificially inseminate her. They are constantly pregnant. They are then hooked up to painful milking machines that often cause them infections, milking them for hours and hours a day, every single day. Their udders are always sore and in pain. As soon as they give birth, the farmer steals her baby away from her. If it is a male calf, he is sent to a veal crate and chained up in complete darkness for 24 hours a day for months, and then slaughtered for veal. If a female calf is born, she is turned into a dairy cow just like her mother, and the cycle continues.

A mother cow will often cry out for her stolen baby for weeks. But she will never see her baby ever again. She is then impregnated again, and the cycle repeats itself. A cycle of rape, birth, calf being taken away, and being hooked up to milking machines. The cycle happens for the rest of her life until eventually she can no longer produce milk from her body being overworked and shutting down. She is then sent to slaughter to be turned into beef.

All this suffering, torture, abuse, and heartbreak....it all happens just so humans can eat and drink dairy products. The dairy and beef industries are inherently linked.

    Thats sad.

For the most part I dont use dairy or beef. But if I do consume animal products I hope they come from people that actually halfway care about animals. I dont think (or at least want to believe) that all farms are like that.

If they hate animals why would they work with animals?

Someone should hit, kick, stomp, shock them and drag their babies away.

Whatever farm that is they should boycott and put them out of business until they make some reforms

I'm not vegan. I eat meat and consume dairy and eggs, but what the OP says is true and it applies to almost 100% of the animal products available for sale. Only a very, very tiny proportion of farms are run in a way that anyone would consider humane. The farm OP describes is a typical factory farm. All food animals live lives of constant misery and pain. People don't do it because they hate animals and people don't run farms because they love animals. Farms are run this way because it's the most efficient and cost effective way of producing animal products. It's about money.

though to be fair not all are like that. some are very very strict for humane housing for general health and well being of the animals. yes there are shady mills like that, but that is i fact not the norm, not any more ( though there is more hygenic mills with big big names ) but also alot of smaller very friendly who let the cows graze and roam around in a pretty decent areas and a very well cared for - most dairy cows dont really NEED to be constantly pregnant, while most dairy cows need to calf at least once - they can be milked for long long long after " just like a human can lactate even without or long after pregnancy and they also dont do anything to cause too much undue stress.......but yeah again there are again alot of the bigger producers who will rotate through much faster than they should.

so TLDR YES there are shitty inhumane practices, and yes they REALLY need to stop - but thats not ALL of them, thats not even most of them in most places anymore for a great many reasons, one of them being regulations and laws that are in place to fight off illnesses that can affect a herd or cause contamination.

Yes its horrid to see these, and very very very very easy to have a knee jerk reaction- but this is NOT a whole truth... it is a sad upsetting facet .... but not accurate of the whole -- a bit way to combat that too is actually go local smaller producers, most are very very open to sharing their practice means because for them its just better for them all around - even if it is alightly more expensive.. but also useually of a much higher quality than you'll get from bigger producers

though tbh... what pisses me off more is the markets and companies pandering to vegans? still themselves use immense amount of excess packaging, plastics that can never be truly broken down in any form without being toxic, or just being made into more plastic " and most plastic actually isnt as recyclable as we like to think" Cardboard package with a wax lining in it? cant be recycle. so while i don't fault those who choose their path... it would be nice to9 fight against the companies playing all friendly for your money that can inflate prices on... and still use and to things that fuck our planet just as bad

    also biology fact

their isnt a living animal on this world including humans who DONT have plastic in our stomachs to some extent because plastic flakes on a mico level so...we constantly ingest it or flat out eat bottle caps from utterly irresponsible bottled water and sodas etc etc.... so yeah.. companies should be mindful of how they treat animals etc etc.. but ....the companies also really should think outside this little bubble and people should also bitch about the WASTE they produce to package these " Vgean gluten free ramen with miso based flavoring ) packages that will just burn up as a toxic gas or end up in the stomach of some orca 5, 10 years later

had to rant, married to someone who is working on her doctorate in environmental sciences and biology and have to hear this daily - also why were a near zero waste/low waste house

My brother works for a state park, the land next door is a dairy farm. The cows graze outside all day and you can tell they're happy. They even come over to check out visitors if you park near them. I agree the stuff in the OP is horrible, and too many farms do still operate that way, but its not 99%. There's a healthy minority of humane farming out there.

The more we choose to not buy dairy and meat does not impact the industry practices
The more we buy from and insist on Sustainable farming (organic is not THe same) will

They come over because cows are extremely sentient. If it is a local diary they probably milk the cows by hand or pump them for only a small periods of time each day and likely do not mass produce anything.

Interestingly, cattle and cows are major contributors to greenhouse gas emissions as well. It is cruel the cycle you describe and for those very same reasons I limit my consumption of beef and do not have veal. But I do like a dash of cream in my coffee, no almond for me, so I am still a sinner. Face it, something has to die for me to live be it a plant or animal. I just try to limit the damage.

Somebody did a study and said if you are a meat eater you will consume 7,000 animals in your lifetime. Someone else said hell was having to meet see each of these 7,000 animals that you consumed during that lifetime.

Even ignoring the ethical concerns, we are the only species that drinks milk past babyhood and the only one drinking from another species. Cow's milk is designed to grow a calf super fast into a full sized cow. Does not even make logical sense to do that to our bodies. No wonder a lot of us are getting so fat lol.

Soymilk or almond milk tastes awesome in my coffee and doesn't give me that mucusy feeling in my throat after.

Unfortunately, the video I posted is not an isolated incident. It is the industry standard. Most milk comes from factory farms, all of which are abusive towards the animals because they only care about profits. The milk you buy at the store is 99% likely to come from a factory farm just like the one in the video. They don't give a shit about the animals and how well they are treated. They only care about how to make money the fastest, most efficient way.

Even on small, local farms that claim to treat their animals well, the animals are still being exploited and used for profit. We don't need to be drinking milk or eating meat in order to survive or be healthy. It's actually quite easy to cut out milk and meat products, you just have to make the decision and commit to it.

Buying dairy products is directly supporting this cruelty. It is a vote with your dollar. Instead of supporting animal abuse, support plant-based alternatives.

It's especially easy now to replace dairy products with things like coconut milk ice cream, nut-based cheeses, soy or almond milk, and things like soy cream cheese or soy sour cream.

Soy is known to have GMO's and phytoestrogen - almond, cashew, or coconut is preferable imo

I personally could give up dairy milk but meat though? I have a hard time with that because I believe our ancestors (even all the way back in time) have been eating meat. Now eating meat of endangered animals or like those workers abusing animals (just cause they know the animal is going to be killed anyways) is despicable.

What are your protein sources/how do you stay full?

For myself I've been eating a lot of different varieties of beans, different colors and varieties of lentils (my favorite), peas, rice, veggie tamales and tacos made with cornmeal and black beans. There are a lot of varieties of peas and beans I didn't even know existed. I do eat soy, tofu in small amounts because I really like how a restaurant near me makes it with veggies and a really good sauce. I know it's not the best and is processed but I do love my fried tofu with veggies and rice covered in that delicious sauce - I have it once a week. My diet is far from perfect but dairy doesn't agree with me even if I wanted to eat it. I'm making slow changes and seeing how it affects my health and how I feel. I could definitely do with more fresh veggies and fruits but unless they are juiced I have a hard time with all that chewing even though I know it's good for me. I need to quit being lazy and have them cut up and ready to eat in the fridge.

The whole phytoestrogen argument about soy is over-hyped. Soy is not unhealthy in moderation. There is just as much or more estrogen in cow's milk than there is phytoestrogen in soy. Furthermore, phytoestrogen from soy helps prevent certain types of cancer.

Also, soy is fed to cows. You might as well cut out the middle man and eat the soy directly.

Just because our ancestors ate meat doesn't mean we have to. The standard American diet is waaaayyy different than what our ancestors ate anyway. The standard American consumes way more meat than our ancestors ever did. It was alot easier to gather and forage for food than it was to chase, hunt, kill, and skin an animal in order to eat its meat. Not to mention that you can eat most fruits and vegetables raw, whereas meat you have to cook.

Protein is present in literally every single living organism, including plants. Some of the strongest animals on the planet are herbivores and get all their protein from plants, such as horses, elephants, rhinos, and gorillas. I get most of my protein from beans/ legumes, potatoes, greens, peanut butter, nuts, and various vegetables. Getting protein and staying full on a plant-based diet is easy.

Just gotta find the non-gmo label. Should be good.
